I'm actually intrigued by the sword swinging with the control stick. I wonder if this could become the new standard for controls in sword-fighting games, kind of like the shoulder button controls in Dark Souls became a standard that was reused in other games.
@Losermagnet Maybe you need to hold L, LZ, R or RZ and then use the Right stick. Or something like that. I am up for anything BUT gimmicky motion crap.
@Snaplocket Aonuma has always been very intelligent in maging hardware resources at his advantage when choosing an art style and graphics for the next project. The mushy water coloured textures worked like a charm on wii and the subtle toon shading to the characters was a fine touch. It was one of the best looking games on the console at the time. But i agree with you, it feels a bit too washed out to the point i wndered if they even upgraded textures (probably yes, if you pause the trailer and look at some details on the clothes)
@Zuljaras Same. I've never played Skyward Sword before because I was so tired of motion controls. I was even thinking during the direct I wasn't going to bother with this HD release until they said it was playable with standard controls.

Give me a heads-up if you're going to send a request please.
@Octane ah, thanks. Makes sense I s'pose with the Wii not having a dual analog controller setup. I imagine they could find a way to add them, but if it worked before why fix what isn't broken.

Real excited to get back into this. I think I got to the mines or something when I stopped playing a few years back. Glad we have options available for control styles. I'll probably opt for button controls but I'll give motion a shot at times
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the control stick sword swinging thing. Is it gonna feel awkward as hell or be just fine? It'll definitely take some getting used to. People are still probably gonna be whining about the controls one way or the other.
Go and play the console version of Mount and Blade Warband. They use a similar method. It works totally fine. You'll adapt to it within minutes.
@Eel
I wonder if this now increases the possibility of the two DS Zelda's being reworked with new controls other than the awful stylus forcing they did to them.
Well those could be a bit trickier to remake for the Switch while maintaining their original essence and not making them a gyro pointer mess, but I don’t see them being impossible to translate to traditional controls.
Modders did make controller patches for the DS roms of those games. All they did was change it so that moving the character and using the sword were done by buttons, but the more advanced stuff like throwing the boomerang was still on touch screen.
A similar thing could work on Switch quite well. You have to use the gyro, but only for a handful of tasks, rather than for everything, which would be a nightmare.
Strangely enough, I'll probably play it with the Joy Con setup even though I'm not a big motion control guy. It seems pretty fun and will probably be a bit more responsive than the original motion controls.
So do you guys think the game will come with some changes like the other HD Zelda remasters? Maybe some added content or at least refinements?
As far as I know the other Zelda remasters did not have significant changes except the Hero Mode. But Skyward Sword already had a Hero Mode in the original version, so I think it's unlikely they will add anything.
@JustMe
I played the original on my Wii U and they were fine, I just think the Joy Cons have a bit more tech to be slightly more accurate. I could be wrong.
