@jump yea not sure why i stopped. I was enjoying it but tv time isn't always something I can get. So that probably played a factor.

@Chandlero
Skyward Sword is by far my least favorite Zelda game. But if they removed Fi (or make her optional / skipable) I would consider playing it again.

I wonder if they'll keep Fi telling you your controller's battery is low.

@dionysos283 I really like Fi and some of her dialogue. But every time she just repeated the textbox I saw 10 seconds ago, I really questioned this awful design choice.

And it is not restricted to Fi. Look at this for one minute: (4:24 - ...)

You get the mitts, you get explanations before, than a textbox how to use it, then a camera zoom where exactly to use it and then a textbook what will happen when you use it.

In early Zeldas (and even BotW), getting such an item would take 2 seconds and not a minute...

@dionysos283 I'll bet they'll add another island minigame, like the pumpkin soup, the singing, fun fun island, and the bamboo one, that's what they did for tp, just a little minigame

Games I'm playing right now:
OoT N64
DK64 N64
Lego LotR Wii
Spirit Tracks DS
TotK Switch

@JustMe
I didn't really have issues controlling the original with the Wiimote and nunchuk. It was fine. The normal little snags when playing any motion game. I just always hated the Wiimote and nunchuk combo, and it pretty much pushed me away for the entire Wii generation.

The weirdest thing about this will be going back to a Zelda game without a jump button.

The sky is a perfect opportunity to improve the game with more content. They could add new islands with little to no changes for the rest of the game needed. I bet they don't though!

I'm expecting it, but not soon. We'll probably see another game connected with Breath of the Wild (if not nearly as big) in some way before we see it.

Oh wow, go me. I think my assumption at the time is that we were gonna get the BOTW equivalent of like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon/Spiderman Miles Morales (Spiderman Ps4 was not out when I predicted this lol). So like a mini, stand alone game between the main games. What we actually got was honestly even cooler.

So Wind Waker HD came out in the Fall, 10 years after Wind Waker came out in March and Twilight Princess HD came out in March, 10 years after Twilight Princess came out in Fall.

So what I'm saying is that I'm calling Skyward Sword HD to come out in March 2021. :V

I wish I got this 100% correct but I got the year so ok.

Is there any reason to hang onto my original Wii version? It's still sealed and I'm thinking about selling it and just buying the Switch version instead.

@Dreamliner

No. None at all. The Wii version still sells for quite a high price, so I'd hurry up if I were you.

@Dezzy
I got burned with Captain Toad Treasure Tracker because the Switch version has that stupid blue-dot bouncing around on the screen all the time (instead of hiding when using controls to move around like it should) so I had to rebuy the Wii-U version. I don't want that kind if thing to happen again. Since I've never played Skyward Sword I probably wouldn't notice something goofy.

The only thing that concerns me is that right trigger sword control...seems tough to use in combination with the buttons that need the same thumb. The only game I've ever had that I couldn't really play because of the wonky controls was Starfox Zero. The Skyward Sword right trigger demo control gives me flashbacks of that...

@Dreamliner

Worse case scenario, you could just buy the digital Wii version on the Wii U eshop.
That's a lot cheaper than the physical version will sell for, especially a sealed copy.

@Dreamliner I’d guess that the docked mode with joy cons will be fairly faithful to the original. Even if the right analogue stick + trigger turns out to be basically unusable you’ve got something that should play at least as well on tv.

To be fair - even if it only cuts out the “you caught a butterfly. See it flutter. Like a piece of dust in the sky. Use this to upgrade your equipment.” message boxes and then the “you caught a Hylian butterfly. These haven’t been seen for hundreds of years. Their blue wings remind you of the endless sky. Use this to upgrade your equipment” message boxes it’s probably going to be a smoother experience.

Well, Skyward Sword HD for Switch is up to pre-order physically on Game's site here, so if it isn't available yet on whichever sites you have around other places, it'll probably go up on them soon .....

I played the original on my Wii U and they were fine, I just think the Joy Cons have a bit more tech to be slightly more accurate. I could be wrong.

Technically Wii Motion Plus would be superior, at least for the WiiMote side. Purely because the motion control tech is largely the same but the WiiMote had the advantage of an IR camera to zero the controls. An IR camera is fairly low tech but there's a reason why the best VR setups use IR camera boxes, IR cameras when you have a known distance between two IR points is the best way to quickly and accurately measure relative distance and rotation.

Where the WiiMote failed I think was that you only have one IR camera and one pair of IR LEDs. IR requires line of sight which is fairly easy to break when there's only one IR camera and one pair of LEDs. Also IR is easy to confuse if there's a secondary IR source or reflective surfaces. It's why on the Wii you'd sometimes get the cursor rapidly moving between two positions on the screen. It's also what's happening with VR when the person's character physically moves to impossible positions.

But flawed or not..... the Joycon doesn't have that as an option. So it can only figure out it's rotation based on the gyro and accelerometers. Which Wii Motion + also had. It has no idea of it's relative position or relative rotation, it just assumes when you start you're directly infront of the screen pointing forwards.

For what it's worth I was a huge fan of the WiiMote and am still slightly annoyed it wasn't supported on Switch. It is just another bluetooth controller afterall, they could do it in software. If it was a control option for Skyward Sword HD I'd dig out my special edition Skyward Sword WiiMote and use it.......

A listing was finally added to AmazonNA last night. I nearly insta-bought a copy. Then I looked at my backlog and came to the realization that this is an evergreen first party title that'll probably sell millions of copies. I think I can afford to wait for this to reach $45 or less physically during a holiday sale a year after release.
