@Snatcher lmao multiple times. Oh my god, that was 45 unrelenting minutes of pure terror.
I attacked it with another monster at one point (I believe it was that Magnamalo), even doing the finisher, and it barely stayed down for more than second or two before jumping up and continuing to pummel me. I only got a couple of my powerful silkbind attacks off on it because it never stopped moving.

Ha! Meet Rajang, the bane of hunters’ everywhere. Sounds like you’re getting pretty good at the game. Probably better than me now.
Then again, the skills come back after playing a while. Back in MH3U, I had played 600 hours and was dancing with 2 Deviljhos in the arena with 3 other randoms. All I remember is absolute carnage and chaos with my partners flying all over the place getting rekt, meanwhile I was dodging, dipping, ducking diving and dodging without taking a single hit. I felt like saying... “heh, amateurs” lol. Only afterwards, in MH4U, when I was no longer in that zone, did I realize how insanely good at the game I had become in MH3U.
I did that Barroth, Tobi Kadachi and Magnamalo quest in the arena earlier, and wow. It was the final low rank quest but it was brutal. So fun though. That’s when I realized I’m not that good against Magnamalo. At least, not with charge blade. See, I realized hunting horn is easy mode for Rise. It really is. I smashed him with the horn. Even in the demo I got him limping with the horn on my first try. Those i-frames, buffs and combos are so good. As soon as I switched to charge blade, a weapon I’ve used for close to 1000 hours now in past games, it was a serious struggle. Same for Switch Axe, though not quite to that extent. Playing different weapons really does make the game feel completely different.
@JaxonH Oh when it comes to me in devi I and a champ at him, not to brag but he is one of my most fought monsters back in monster huntetr, I know every move when and how, I'm ready for when he shows up.
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

@JaxonH I know I fought a Rajang in 4U. It was hard, but not quite like this. I distinctly remember a mission with two Rajang, actually.
I doubt I'm better at the game than you are. You have a lot more practice. Also, remember, I'm using the horn. Although once I've beaten all the monsters in the base version, I'll probably learn a couple of new weapons at some point. One of the bow guns, and probably one of the more technical weapons as well. Heavily considering trying out the IG again, which I was kind of put off by in 4U.
@Snatcher I'm enjoying the game its fun but it does lack any form of endgame.
There's little incentive to push for better weapons as you can just stroll through hunts. Im not the best hunter and even I've got rarity 5 longswords without having to do any grinding, I would have gotten the Deepest Night sword already but i hate fighting Nargacuga and I need to break its wing a few times.
I'm actually more shocked that people think it's ok to hunt a new monster and take it out first time in HR without needing to learn its moves or weaknesses and build an appropriate counter set.
Did you beat Anjanoth or Nergigante first time in World?
@Ralizah
I mained IG in MH4U, as did many others (TeeJay was another), and it was glorious. But I came to find the upkeep tedious. Maybe it's my mind's eye, and in reality it's not a problem, but I do remember having to constantly fire the kinsect trying to get that yellow buff for triple charge instead of dealing damage.
I recommend Switch Axe and Charge Blade. The two transformation weapons. They offer robust depth with incredibly satisfying combat. Switch Axe in particular has a silkbind with super armor that closes the gap with the monster, ending with a triple slam attack. Great to use just before a roar or to close distance without sheathing. Learning to master switching back and forth is key. The weapon really is meant to integrate both axe and sword mode into combos.
Charge Blade is a bit more technical but that depth is what makes it so satisfying to use. It also has a silkbind that closes distance with the monster, but it doesn't offer super armor. It does, however, have a counter that Charges all your phials and lets you rip right into an SAED or Elemental Slash afterward. Long animation commitment if you misjudge the situation though. Risk and reward.
I was gonna say, I thought I remembered Hunting Rajang with you in MH4U. Monsters are so much more aggressive now since World though, due to the added mobility. I can't wait for Bazelgeuse, Valstrax and the elder dragons. Specifically B52 though. Just because he wreaks havok unexpectedly. And I'd love to see that Bazel Rajang Turf War.
Kinda sad Deviljho isn't in. But I'm sure we'll see our friend the Pickle in Rise Ultimate.
I never got into Generations, mainly since the styles sort of felt overwhelming to me. You weren't allowed to try any of them out for yourself, and were forced to pick at the start of the game.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@Mr-Fuggles777 I'm actually more shocked that people think it's ok to hunt a new monster and take it out first time in HR without needing to learn its moves or weaknesses and build an appropriate counter set
People are ok with it because that’s how it’s always been. Nobody would want to play a game where even veterans are dying on high rank monsters without fighting them a bunch and learning move sets, squeezing every last drop of damage from weakness exploits. This isn’t Dark Souls. There has never, in the history of Monster Hunter, been a normal high rank monster you absolutely couldn’t beat first try if you’re a decent player with average skill. Even end game monsters and bosses have mostly been beatable first try. ESPECIALLY in multiplayer. Studying weaknesses and learning moves is for fighting more efficiently when farming, not beating them (unless you’re new). Anyone Joe Blow veteran can beat any high rank monster. The only ones I’m aware of people haven’t beaten their first try at large is end game G rank elder dragons, like Alatreon and Fatalis in Iceborne, Level 140 Deviljho, Kushala Daora and Rajang in MH4U, etc.
Most people beat Anjanath and beat Nergiagante first try. I know I certainly did. Smashed them to smithereens. So ya, most veterans beat them, but probably even most new players too (even Hey Jay! beat Anjanath first try- he got wrecked the first time but that was playing it out of order by happening upon it in a different hunt way earlier in the game when he had beginner armor and couldn’t tie his own shoelaces). Those that didn’t- those who triple carted, were almost certainly brand new to the series, started with World as their first MH game and didn’t have the skill set required. I’m not saying those fights weren’t engaging. They were. But so is Magnamalo. So is Almudron. So is countless monsters in Rise. It’s no different.
@VoidofLight
Ya that’s fair. But that’s why guild style was created- a plain jane style with classic mechanics. And since you can switch your style at any point in the game, you could just try different styles out like you try different weapons out.
@JaxonH Ah, sorry, I didn't see this notif cause I wasn't checking the site. Oftentimes I'm not awake in the afternoon anyway BUT, today I was cause I had just gotten the vaccine a couple hours prior and had slept before that.
If you tend to hunt in the afternoons though, I'll see what I can do about maybe sleeping earlier after getting home from work so I can be available more often in during the afternoon hours.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
@TeeJay
No worries. I work and don’t get home until 4pm CST (5pm EST) and usually try to get to bed by 9-10 pm. I have a dental appointment on Wednesday, but aside from that I’m free. Do need to take my car in for an oil change at some point this week or next though.
Having now made it to high rank, it feels good finally getting to hunt with everyone. I prefer to just go down the list and do every single quest before moving on. Be it key quest or otherwise. Content is content. Hopefully you’re OK with that- I really don’t want to rush to HR7. Will get there in due time.
Just made a Leather S armor set with 2 extra Biologist gems, upgrades to 36 defense like my Low Rank Basarios armor was. Good for farming, and it’ll be a stop gap until I can make more suitable High Rank gear. I really do want half the armor sets in this game though. So I might really take my time with these quests. Anytime I get to a new monster that has an armor set I like... I might just farm it then and there. Aknosom is in my sights, but there may be a monster before him that has a good set of skills.
@JaxonH I got to the end game a couple days ago so I'm fine with anything you wanna hunt. At this point it's just about throwing monster mats into the random talisman melding to try and get good stuff, and I'm happy with my armor and weapons so I have nothing in particular I need to hunt.
I was pretty thorough about doing every quest until the final two ranks, then I just kinda wanted to beat the end so I can have full access to the best melding and decorations. So the final two ranks have quests I have yet to do.
EDIT: Speaking of being happy with my gear, I just got a level 3 expert talisman (no slots unfortunately) and I totally forgot all about Rampage skills for my Narga Switchaxe so I got the Affinity II skill. Now I'm on at least 71% affinity by default with no buffs. Crazy.
That paired with lvl3 Crit Boost and lvl 5 Maximum Might (and some Latent Power) from my armor means I'm dishing out some crazy damage now.
@JaxonH Luckily, I skipped a bunch of the lower HR quests, lol.
Good to know your window of availability.
How does the invite system in this game work, btw? A friend of mine said she sent me an invitation to play with her when I was online, but I didn't see anything.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
ive spent an hour or so doing expeditions for the high rank maps of the frozen lands and flooded forest and ruins and found a couple more of those relics notes.
So basically all this time theyre just poetry nonsense?
@JaxonH@Mr-Fuggles777 I've read a fair number of positive impressions and opinions about this game. It seems eminently fair to seek less positive impressions also, wouldn't you say? I find Mr. Fuggles' critiques to be coherent, which was the impetus for my original comment.
It's a strange thing about this franchise... I have found people to have a rather challenging attitude to newcomers, even more so in person than online. Usually, I am the one inviting people to cultivate their éliteness... but that would be éliteness in skill. Since I purchased my Switch, I have been spending a fair amount of time on shoot-'em-ups like Ikaruga and Danmaku, not to mention stat-heavy stuff like Disgaea, so I think I am willing to pay a price for entry.
Nevertheless, JaxonH, I value your statements as a divergent viewpoint, and I don't fault you. Carry on...
