@Mr-Fuggles777
Not just that, but hunts go way faster. You’re not spending time finding the monster so that cuts down the quest time by 50% just there alone. On top of that you have Palamutes, wirebugs and great wirebugs cutting down on travel time, and wyvern riding which does big damage. It results in a very streamlined experience but one that does go by faster.
I’m not sure chat has had much bearing though. Not for me anyways. There was chat in MH3U and it was only ever used during hunts between friends. And that was my experience in World too. Everybody kept chat turned off unless it was a friend. I know when I play with my brother in Rise we chat because we have Arctis headsets that Bluetooth to discord on the phone and mix audio, but we’re still just as fast in and out of quests as we ever were.
You could always B-line it for endgame in any MH title though. There were people who reported beating World in 35-40 hours. And likewise, you can B-line MH Rise to endgame in 35 hours also. But both of them provided hundreds of hours for me because I don’t B-line to endgame. There’s so much content to be enjoyed that I think it’s an utter waste to skip over quests. Even dating all the way back to MH3U, I do every quest in the game. Full check marks across the board. Only after 100% Low Rank in both Village and Hub do I even think about High Rank. Speaking of which, I’m 165 hrs in, just hitting High Rank myself.
I’ve never been one to care for trophies, especially since I’m not really big into the PlayStation ecosystem (and Xbox and Steam achievements just suck- at least trophies I dig). But I do like the in-game achievements for MH just because I’m a huge fan. I don’t go out of my way to get them, but I like checking out my achievements on my guild card from time to time.
@JaxonH I haven't rushed through at all and I'm still almost out of stuff to do unless I start some new builds. But multiple builds don't add much extra time as you just use your best set to farm the mats for the new builds.
It must be the social aspect that makes the difference, grinding in silence is pretty boring and im almost done with Rise. I'm probably going to go back to world, Its free on gamepass so I can start fresh as I played it on PS4 originally.
Glad you can squeeze so many hours out of it though.
Edit: I think the fact you don't need to prep has also led to it feeling empty, I havnt even checked the weaknesses of the new monsters because it doesn't matter - unless you have a complete idiot on your hunt, you can't fail, even playing with randoms.
I've only wiped twice and both times was because 1 guy threw himself headfirst into the moster 3 times in a row and carted each time.
@Mr-Fuggles777 I'm not sure that I'm the intended audience for Monster Hunter games (though several people have recommended the series to me), but I have been following this release somewhat. I'm disappointed to read that this game is not very tactical, Mr. Fuggles (I love long-term strategy games). Fortunately, there's more than enough to play elsewhere...
@Mr-Fuggles777
Don’t know what to say- the content is there and the proof is in my hours, and the fact I haven’t grinded at all really. Definitely sounds like you should play something else though because you haven’t been happy with this game. Best to leave it to the people getting hundreds of hours and loving it.
@COVIDberry
Monster Hunter has never been a tactical strategy game. For that you want Civilization VI or XCOM 2 or Fire Emblem. It’s an action combat game with tactical combat. And there is more depth and strategic play in the combat than just about any other game I’ve ever played. Furthermore this is the best video game I’ve played in my entire life but it requires commitment to learning the systems. And you will absolutely get wrecked if you don’t. But that’s what makes it rewarding and this game has the best difficulty curve of any in the series. It’s a game you have to play for yourself rather than try to judge from the outside in. But don’t bother unless you’re willing to make a commitment to learn it.

@COVIDberry this is definitely the lightest Monster Hunter for content, the hunts are short and fast and it's definitely more arcady like than World (which is the only other monster hunter I've played).
You also don't need any strategy, as you can just hit things repeatedly until they die.
A lot of the die hard fans can't accept how shallow it is but 35 hours for a looter is pretty poor.
@Mr-Fuggles777
It's not shallow. Difficulty is same as World (except Village Quests up to Magnamalo, which is fine because it would be easy anyways and it's getting tons of new players eased in).
It's not a matter of "acceptance". It's just a matter of nobody else agreeing with your opinion.
just unlocked the first main Village story magnamalo quest. I got my Khezu great sword upgraded to Khezu II and Ludroth great sword to its 2nd upgrade. Been stocking up on flash bombs and traps for the heck of it.
still wearing low rank Tigrex armor. time to change it I guess?
Is the first Village story Magnaalo easy and not totally wild? like the 4-5 star Gather Hub Magnamalo which I only did with other online people
@Ulysses@FattyWhale_42@TeeJay@Ralizah
On my final Low Rank Hub Quest- Disastrously Beautiful in the arena. If anyone wants to join, let me know. It’s 3 monsters in the arena in one quest, and then I was gonna start knocking out the high rank quests.
@urrutiap
4-7 star hub is High Rank. Village Quests are low rank. And less difficult low rank at that. Which is why the game is designed around do you doing the low rank quests first. It’s still a decent challenge, but it won’t be as hard as High Rank version, that’s for sure.

However, I have a mining upsurge in the Lava Caverns, so I was going to do that — if you want to join me let me know, and I'll wait for you before I start. (>^_^)>
@JaxonH Rise definitely much easier than World. There is zero difficulty wall to overcome, and you can't say its not been over simplified.
I'm doing 7* HR quests without having to learn any combos for Long Sword - I have literally only just found out I can counter using wire bugs. If you try doing that In World you got smashed, Anja took ages on Low Rank and I had to learn it moves as well as working out appropriate counters to overcome it. Magnamalo went down first time (ive yet to actually cart against it) with a weapon I had just picked up and have still yet to learn.
I'm not even doing village quests, just hub which is supposed to be harder - I'm not a Monster Hunter Vet, the game is just stupid easy.
It's lost its finese and the need to actually study a monster and to learn the maps to know the best place to set traps etc, just hit it until it stops moving and rinse / repeat.
I havnt even bothered unlocking the extra camp sites because the maps are so small you just don't need them.
I'm going to play MHR alot of it and maybe by the end of the year I will get GENU, I will play the classic MH, and I did play the demo for this first so I def give it I go I had fun and since I knew what I was doing, I actually killed the monster I was so happy for myself I mean I know it was a demo but even after playing world I couldn't beat it.

Look this my sound rude and I'm sorry if it dose but, If this monster hunter game is to "Easy" for some people (Or people like me who have played world) the why not go back to GENU It has all the classic stuff and brings back so many monster how could you get sick of it, and if you played it already and you want a knew monster hunter game, then why don't you make it harder for yourself? If you really think its to easy How about every time you use a potion stand still, or how about you block of using wire bug bc if you want the play rise and want it to be harder or "Classic" you would need to get rid of the wire bug, I can at least get by the crafting issue as I don't think they should have made crafting so easy bc if you try to go to any past game this is not going to translate well.
But to be fair every one I have seen diss on the game for being easy say this still like the game and they think its great and I get it they miss old monster hunter and they want a knew looking game that does just that I get it so I'm not trying to be rude here this is just a matter of opinion so nobody has to agree with me, or have to agree the game is the best monster hunter game ever, but if you in joy it then in joy it. (I still can't stand the people who make the newcomers feel bad bc the game is easy)

@Mr-Fuggles777
I completely disagree. As does Joey and several others here who have specifically said otherwise. High rank just as challenging as every other game I’ve ever played in the series and I’ve played half a dozen of them spanning thousands of hours. So ya, let’s just disagree and leave it at that. Rest of us are having the time of our lives, we’re not having the issues you’re having, so if you’re done with everything and not enjoying it then no worries, just play something else. No need to keep posting in here if you’re done with the game and aren’t enjoying it. Plenty of other games to go play. And frankly the rest of us are kind of tired of hearing the same complaints over and over when none of us can relate to you. We get it- you find the game piss easy and you’re finished in 30 hours. Got it. That’s categorically not the case for everyone else. So let us continue enjoying our game of the generation and you go on and play whatever it is that makes you happy.
@Ralizah
Didn’t see your message because once I hopped in the lobby we hit it hard for a couple hours. I’m about halfway through going through the HR4 Hub quests, but if you’re still up for playing and don’t mind hopping in with me I can start a new lobby.
@Snatcher
Nobody’s saying that. Except for one person here. Village aside, The game is no different than any other base game entry. I am a very experienced player and my skills are being put to the test constantly in high rank. The game is no different than world was base game. The biggest threat in the entire game of World was Bazelgeuse and even then, I watched HeyJay!, a brand new player to the series, smash him first try. Yet he carted to both Tetranadon and Khezu in Rise... low rank. The only legitimate comparison is the village quests are genuinely a bit easier (a BIT, not a lot). And it’s not an ultimate version of the game so it’s not going to have G rank difficulty yet.
Two things people fail to consider- first time you play the series, you’re new and you haven’t developed your skills yet, so it’s a lot harder. Subsequent games always feels easier by comparison because you’re an experienced hunter now. Game didn’t get easier- you just got better. Second thing is coming off G rank difficulty in another game will make High Rank feel easier by comparison. Obviously. It would be like playing high rank for three months and then going back to low rank all of a sudden. The game isn’t easier- you’ve just acclimated to higher difficulty so it feels that way. Most people coming from Iceborne are used to Ultimate G rank quests. And most people who started with World are much better at the game now too.
@JaxonH Well I saw a few people say it back in the soapbox so just pointing it out here also, Are we going to get G ranked I never played it before and it sound like fun.

So, uh, I solo'd the HR7 Rajang, and HOLY CRAP that thing is CRAZY! I've been kinda coasting through this game, even when solo'ing the high rank monsters. I've been able to kill 2+ HR monsters without hitting 40 minutes, and usually without dipping into my own potions. Rajang took 45 minutes to kill, had me down to no healing items whatsoever... I was literally cowering behind a high-rank Magnamalo at one point for cover.
If you're next to it, it jumps around like a flea and does crazy damage with its fists, even if you use HR armor with a lot of defense and buff with mega armorskin. It still cut through my defenses like paper. If you try to gain distance, it either does this flying leap-to-groundpound thing or shoots out a gigantic beam of fire. There's nowhere even remotely safe to be if you're within 50 feet of it.
Never fighting that thing solo again. That was scary. I even carted twice.
@JaxonH Ah, it's OK. I have to go make dinner now. Maybe next time.
@Snatcher
Yup. Every game since the 2nd generation (barring Portable 3rd which was an odd JP-only one-off) has received an Ultimate version which adds 2 key things:
Village Quests: High Rank Hub Quests: Master Rank (formerly known as G Rank)
This is why most vets foam at the mouth for the Ultimate expansion. It doubles the village content and expands the Hub content by 50%. The leak stated Rise Ultimate will release in late 2022 and will offer 20-30 additional monsters, several new maps, and obviously, Master Rank Hub quests and High Rank village quests. This is on top of the nearly 1 dozen monsters (including Apexes) being added via title updates. On top of which, there will be title updates with additional monsters after the Ultimate version, too.
All in all, we should land at around 75 monsters total. .
