Never played Cave Story for some reason so might just give that a go.
Is Redout worth a purchase?
Cave Story, VVVVVV and The Binding of Isaac are all excellent games.
Might bite at Cave Story. If you haven't played VVVVVV before, it is very short (main game 1-2 hours) but it is fun! Definitely worth a try.
Edit: Have edited original comment for clarity.
Cave Story and Binding of Isaac both are some of my favorite indie games of all time, the latter may be bit of an acquired taste but the former in particular is something that I could recommend to just about anybody who likes 2D action games.
Might have to bite for Cave Story as the physical is over £50 on amazon and out of print on PlayAsia.
But then I can't because of Nicalis being so crappy to their devs
@xxMPJxx didn't review massively well but never played it admittedly. FAST RMX is fantastic though and lord knows we need more players online
I have Cave Story physically, though it might be nice to have a digital copy too...
None of the other prices are quite tempting enough for a digital buy though. Didn't get anything out of my time with Binding of Isaac; don't much like the look of Redout; Blade Strangers is the most tempting one, but the screenshots on the eshop are off-putting and it's not like you hear people raving about how good it is, so the price isn't justified for me.
There also a sale on Johnny Turbo’s Arcade games (most are 75% off) on the UK eShop, I picked 7 games last night
@Creature I believe there is additional content like you mentioned. I probably should clarify that just beating the main game is around 1-2 hours (at least I remember it being that long, may need to replay it now) but doing the extras does make the game quite a bit longer such as getting all the trinkets, in-game trophies and playing through custom levels.
great price for VVVVVV
I already have Cave Story+ on WiiWare, and the games I want are also on retail which I prefer (Ikaruga, Isaac Afterbirth+, Tiny Barabarian DX), but they're getting more expesive as time goes on. So.... damn!
@pigcop ‘putting princes’?
Either way, it’s showing UK prices because it’s a UK-based website. Other countries will almost certainly get the same price drops in Euros, Francs, Crowns, etc.
I have Cave Story on WiiWare but the plus version is appealing. Can anyone tell me if the plus version is worth double dipping for?
Cave Story is a great game.
@wazlon The Switch version in particular is great. Updated visuals are really nice without losing the charm of the original (and can switch to the original if you prefer). Plenty of soundtrack variants to choose from (I love the Famitracks one). Some nice QoL changes. Local co-op can be pretty fun if you have someone to play with. It's a really good remake.
I can't recommend Cave Story enough!
Ikaruga and Cave Story are £6.82 from the Norwegian eShop and Binding of Isaac is £13.63. Haven't looked the rest up.
@Gerald Have they added options to turn all graphics filters off yet? I fancy a couple of their games but just can't get over the forced blur filter.
@BionicDodo not played any of them yet, I just noticed that they were cheap from why watch list. Let me know which games you are interested in, will check later when i get home
I've always found Nicalis games to be (mostly) overpriced in comparison to other publishers, so I'm glad that the discounts make these games around what they are actually worth (imo).
@Gerald Thanks! I was looking at the two Joe & Mac games, Bad Dudes, Two Crude Dudes and Nitro Ball.
Binding of Isaac gave me nightmares...
@BenAV Great, thanks for the information, will be buying it now. 😀
Thinking of picking up Binding of Isaac
Crystal crisis on sale at last
@lemonjellydude it used to be 2$ on 3ds when it hited discounts. VVVVV I mean.
@pigcop Not only that, the only country that doesn't use the currency called "euro".
And then there's the irony of writing "princes" instead of prices
@xxMPJxx I played it on the Wii U. It isn't bad but it offers nothing new. If own Wipeout on any console play that instead.
Would be great if South Africans could actually purchase on the South African eShop. We have all basically been blocked since late in December. Worst part is, eShop cards are not supported here and although PayPal is, the South African eShop doesn't offer the option....
I definitely feel some these games should be heavier on discount by now, especially with how old they are and how many times they've been released. If they were cheaper maybe i'd consider a triple dip at this point for my switch for something like Cave Story+.
RemiLore has been on my want list for a while, but I biught Diablo 3 when it came out and got Nine Parchments like half the price of it's sale price and have yet to complete it the latter. So will probably hold of.
Blade Strangers is tempting but isn't Nicalis run by a bunch of irresponsible and rude peeps?
@BenAV I thought for a sec the Switch version had the 3DS updated graphics plus the 2d ones. Shame it doesn't. I used to have Cave Story 3D and liked the graphics. Would have been awesome to Switch between the 2.
@Jayofmaya I'm personally not a fan of Cave Story 3D so I'm content to let that die on the 3DS, haha.
@BionicDodo ok, Both Joe & Mac games, Bad Dudes, and 2 Crude have the below options (I didn’t get Nitro Ball)
Aspect Ratio Options:
4:3, 16:9, Filled
Screen Style Options:
None, Scanline, Scanline Round, Composite, RGB, S-Video, VHS
The None option with 4:3 Ratio would be the closest to pixel perfect, but there is a little blur (bare in mind this is on a 55 inch tv). I always prefer Scan Lines on these Retro games.
I think for the sale price, you can’t go wrong
@Gerald, thanks for letting me know Johnny Turbo was on sale. I picked up 6 new ones, both Joe & Mac games, Bad Dudes, Two Crude Dudes, Heavy Barrel and Nitro Ball.
I already had Super Burgertime which I paid full price for when I wanted to play a burgertime game from the past. It’s a lot of fun and worth the discount price.
@Gerald Thanks for all the info! Sounds like their 'None' option still isn't ccompletely filter free, which is a shame. I may still pick them up at this price though.
Code of Princess definitely deserves some attention Here.
That's a good price on Ikaruga...
Binding of Isaac is, without hyperbole, one of my favourite games EVER. EVER!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
@Shambo That’s not true, Poland, Hungary, Croatia and the Czech Republic don’t use the euro. There’s almost certainly more members of the EU that don’t either.
@Markiemania95 Happy to learn I was wrong, thanks.
Still, with euro as a currency accepted in many countries that are members of EU, the others supposedly each having their own currency, and UK with their own currency and dropping out, it is very UK-centric to list EU prices in their currency.
@Shambo That's true - but as previously stated, this is a UK-based website, so that's not surprising or unreasonable.
@Gerald who? what? Is Johnny turbo? What are the games like?
@xxMPJxx Redout could be worth it but not for switch probably.
The screenshots are terrible on eshop comparing to how the game looks on ps4 or pc. (I got it for ps4, though wanted it for switch)
So check the reviews for switch before you proceed
I was very tempted to get Crystal Crisis, but the angle of the Crystal drop area annoys me that it's not straight on, making it harder to notice the far right side column.
RedOut is still $39.99 here in the States...maybe that's a good thing bc seems like many were disappointed by it...
Blade Strangers is a nice fighting game, simple enough for begginers and fun enough for experienced players .
Not long ago it got a free update with new characters. Every character feels fresh and different, despite sharing the same input/controls and the art style is pleasant.
17,99 is a great price for what it offers. If you´re a fan of fighting games, or appreciate 2D games, Blade Strangers is a good purchase.
How quick we forget. There's no way I'll ever give Nicalis another penny of my money given their business practices. They exploit their own staff and the independent developers that they publish.
@sikthvash
The board view can be flattened via the game options
@cheesedude Oh wow, that's great! Thanks for the info dude!
