Yesterday, Nintendo surprised everyone when it revealed two new sets of Joy-Con would be arriving on 4th October. There's blue and neon yellow or neon purple and neon orange to select from.
If you've gone to great lengths to collect every single coloured Joy-Con so far and are wondering how many combinations there now are if you mix and match them all, a Reddit user by the name of LimeheadGames has posted an updated chart featuring every single possible combination.
Even the limited edition ones featured in the Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! bundle have been included. All up, there's 110 in total! See for yourself below:
According to Nintendo of America, the new sets of Joy-Con will be priced at $79.99. Be sure to take a look at the existing announcement post, if you haven't already.
Will you be picking up the latest sets? How many Joy-Con do you currently own? Leave a comment below.

I want the blue and orange combo so bad, and they KNEW I would, so they put them in 2 separate packages. So cruel.
Still rocking my dual greens. Even with the drift.
And all of them will drift regardless of the combination.
Truly intriguing.
Just got my new custom white ones with multicolored buttons the other day I’m so happy with them. If they ever plan on selling the eevee and pikachu ones separately I will gladly buy those instantly as well!!
Just sell $10 skins and not $80 sets. Jesus.
I want dev exclusive black color to add to my rare controller collection
Can we get back to the part where these are 80 dollar accessories? I'm all for some sweet new colors, but I'm not dropping 80 bucks every time there's a new neon on the shelf. Design me up a Switch with a better processor or a screen that doesn't get scratched for its own dock, and then we'll talk about ponying up some cash. Until then, me and my regular gray switch will be playing BotW.
I have a drift on the right side joy con. It’s annoying, but hopefully these fair out better.
And not one that includes white...
Purple and blue would be solid
....Hey look, it's that classic illusion.
Do the Smash Joy-Con register as regular Grey Joy-Con in the controller settings?
I want an orange for each side🙁
@tendonerd sadly, they wouldn't look as good.
It's just too bad none of them are comfortable to hold in adult hands. I still want to know what happened to the Hori Split Pad Pro Daemon X Machina Edition joy cons. They are "unavailable" everywhere online included the Hori site.
@Hordak probably because pre-orders sold out. They were available on Amazon last month. I pre-ordered as soon as I saw them. But hey, there are alternatives you can try out now for less money with your existing Joycons.
I personally have the GripCase from Skull & Co and really like it, but it was also the first of it's kind (I backed it on Kickstarter), so I haven't tried any others yet except a generic cheap TPU grip case from Amazon that is not bad but certainly not as good. There's some other apparently great ones like the Satisfye grip and the Lammcou Charging Grip that both have really really good reviews on Amazon (real ones, not fake/paid, as far as I can tell).
I wish they'd release more symmetrical sets. I'd love the get the black and purple or black and blue if they were a set. My favorite official set is the Mario Red set. Not big on the neon colors either.
@Rocky2418 I bought some of those aftermarket shells and replaced my grey ones with white. Had the bonus of a D-pad mod too. It was a little tricky to do, but only because I had absolutely zero experience doing anything like that before. If you have any experience with this sort of thing, it should be a cakewalk.
I wanted a light blue set, but apparently the set has been discontinued. When I fount out about the new dark blue one, I thought I could get it and then get the red/light blue set so at least I would have a set of blue Joy-Con, even if they weren't the same color. And I can do that, but the dark blue one comes with a yellow one, and I already have a set of yellow ones. I wish we could just pick which combination we wanted rather than having to choose from a pre-set list
Is it me or is the 8th and 9th row of the image exactly the same?
I'd just like some same colour sets to be released.
I can only make the four combinations in the upper left of the diagram above.
Fortunately for me, the colours really aren't that important.
@Friendly I was noticing that as well.
I have 2 black joy cons, because Switch needed same color as my other consoles.
Okay, there are 12 individual colors of Joy Cons : Grey, Neon Blue, Neon Red, Neon Orange, Neon Purple, Neon Yellow, Neon Green, Neon Pink, Mario Red, Pikachu Yellow, Brown Eevee, Indigo
So it will have 12 x 12 = 144 possibilities.
@Heavyarms55
Yeah, I've looked at some of those in the past. One holdup I'd had was that they didn't cover the border on the front of the Switch (for those that at least included the back cover for it). So I've more considered that dbrand set of skins instead.
Still, the inclusion of a d-pad sounds pretty nice. Could you let me know where you got yours, so I can take a look? (Or maybe links aren't allowed in posts here - I can't remember.)
This looks like one of those 3D images, ie. stereograms
Fixed the drifting first before doing other fancy thing.
Not seeing double blue or double neon purple. I've been lied to!
I want the very very rare labo cardboard joy cons to complete my collection. Never seen them appear on eBay and probably never will.
@Rocky2418 Oh I didn't bother with the Switch console itself, just the joycons - for exactly the reason you state, you can only really swap out the back. Still the Joycons looks nice. I got mine on Amazon Japan. Because I live in Japan. Shouldn't be too hard to find them on Amazon in the EU or US though, since I've seen a lot of people posting about them over there.
The D-pad is decent. Basically it is still the buttons, but it adds a pivot that makes the buttons work like a D-pad. Not perfect, but nice.
@Friendly row 9 has the labo cardboard left joy con. These were only available to winners of the labo contest when it first launched. Super rare. The labo console looks ace too
@Heavyarms55
Thanks. Yeah, I actually just found one on Amazon made by Basstop, which has the d-pad option like the one you mentioned. Looks pretty cool, definitely will consider that instead. (Who knows, maybe I could order just the Switch front skin from dbrand to match the rest. Maybe wouldn't work, but possibly.)
@Rocky2418 Not personally a fan of skins, if they get stained or damaged it can be a real pain after you take them off - getting rid of all the glue. And in my experience, they get stained or damaged pretty easily. But they do sometimes look real cool.
@Friendly not just you, me too!
@tendonerd Skins take off the paintwork
great list!!
not mentioned: any of the hori d-pad (left) joycons
the nes or famicom joycons
and the smash and dragon quest sets (that have small logos, and only seem to be available in certain console sets)
@Rafx I was just about to ask that... I take it the answer is no then?
Two years and no drift in my joy cons, am I doing something wrong?
While I'm happy that there's more colour options, I'd be much happier if they did some work to resolve the Joycon drift issue. Me and my partner both had to replace the left joycons due to it.
It's hard to make colour combos if you have an abundance of right joycons and a pile of broken left ones
@Anti-Matter certain colors are only available as either a left or a right Joy Con rather than as both. This would make it less than the 144 possibilities
@EmperorSno ah yes, now I see, thanks!
I’m kinda holding out for a Toadette pair...
@WiltonRoots you might not be playing enough on the switch 😂
Most of these colour sets aren't even available here in the UK. Really feeling the love here, Nintendo.
@Friendly
I think that there is a slight difference in color. Look:
The top seems like gold, beneath of that the second one seems like its brown.
@LuigisCube I think you might be right! I'm a bit of a weekend warrior...
Just bought the neon yellow set so I'm good for the foreseeable future,especially at the ridiculous price they're still asking for them, but i had no choice really as got to fix my launch grey right side joycon. It needs a new stick,SL/SR ribbon cable and a new mother board. It's taken a beating 😬
@tendonerd You have dbrand for that.
So Wario & Waluigi joy cons confirmed now where is the game
There's a fair amount of mixing but not so much matching going on. I feel like the ability to order custom joy con sets would be a great perk for NSO members.
Really want the dual Reds but they aren’t available in the UK.
@Matthewxcv I rock the dual reds now. Got them from amazon.co.jp, payed with mastercard and got they arrived within a week (Belgium, Europe). Total price: around 70 EUR including import fees! 10/10 would recommend
Seems like there should be more...
NEW ANALOG STICKS PLEASE.
Seriously, Joycon drift should be as big a deal as RROD and Nintendo should offer updated replacements to all customers free of charge. If I can have a Vita that has been chucked in a bag for nearly 10 years with no case and have the sticks still work, Nintendo has no excuses.
It's both my left joycons too so the only games I can currently play are those needing one Joycon and this is not comfortable for long periods.
i have the same pair i got a little over a year ago, and i don’t have any issues with them ¯(ツ)/¯ but i’ve only gamed for maybe 400 hours or so, i guess some people play far more.
They should have a website where you can customize your joy-con combo when purchasing instead of only selling certain sets and not every individual one.
@RadioHedgeFund the edge of the metal connectors grinds away. I wonder if a stronger and less cheap metal should be used. So brittle makes me wonder if they're using graphite as that still conducts even if not a metal. Also wonder if dead zone settings for games or hardware can fix the issues overall.
If you're looking for certain matching joycon pair colors, check if your country has a Nintendo refurbished online store. The one for US and Canada has some joycons.
$80 for controllers (What do you all mean by "accessories"? These aren't skins) is like $20 too expensive. It's more expensive to get a way to play games than to actually get games!
So, I get that these are just cash grabs for Nintendo and don't offer us anything beyond delight in the color options and mix and matchability, and at $80/pair.....much lighter wallets. I also get that there are more practical ways that Nintendo could be enhancing our user experience with the Switch. Not taking dock support out of the Lite would've been a huge one for the people like me who want something more pocketable, but are unwilling to surrender the system's very most signature feature to have it. I'm still only 90% over that travesty.
But you know what? I love the joycons and the color options anyway! It's fun! It's part of the charm of the system. It's the only time I've ever wanted a controller for more than just basic functional reasons. It's sooooo Nintendo! And it's so up my alley! And it makes forgetting about the Lite that much easier. Also, they're not mandatory expenses, so you can always say no to at least this arm of the Nintendo money-making machine.
So, yeah, I'm a fan!
My questions are a) how many distinct sets of joycons do you have to have to pull off the full 100 (a complete list would be great), b) can you do it without ending up with any duplicates (from my look at the chart, it looks like you might end up with an extra yellow right joycon), c) are they all still available, and d) are they all available in the US, or do I have to order overseas for some?
As it stands, I have the neon blue / neon red that came with the system, then I have the Splatoon neon pink / neon green, and finally, I have the neon red / neon blue which are opposite the stock set. That means out of 100, I can make....let's see....nine. Taking the "neon" prefix as read in each instance, I can make blue red, blue green, blue blue, pink red, pink green, pink blue, or red red, red green, and red blue. Or, assuming the rows on this chart are lettered, starting with A and the columns are numbered, starting with 1, I can make B3, B5, B2, F3, F5, F2, or C3, C5, and C2.
Now it's just a matter of figuring out which ones to buy next!
Cheers!
Nerdy math teacher moment- technically these are permutations not combinations since the order matters.
@rushiosan The electrical contact spray method worked like a charm for me. Should it have happened? No. But is this where we're at? Yes And is there an easy solution? Also yes.
@Fre4ked Thanks for the info!
@ALinkttPresent
Neon Blue hasn’t been Discontinued as far as I know. They’re just difficult to grab. GameStop sells them as Neon Blue (L/R) quite frequently though.
@LordMolecule
This only includes recently announced Joy Con and ones that already exist. This excludes Joy Con with markings on them too. So if you don’t see it, it’s because it hasn’t been announced yet.
@NerdNoiseRadio
Too lazy to calculate the specifics but I can atleast tell you this.
Unless you won the Nintendo Labo Joy Con, you can’t get all the Combos. Only a handful exist worldwide.
@Wavey84 Neon Yellow + Neon Green begs to differ.
I love that Neon Orange and Neon Purple have finally joined the mix, but why can’t we get matching pairs for colors already out?
Neon Green and Neon Pink aren’t sold as separate colors. It’s annoying.
The colours gave me no joy, the drift made it a Grief-con.
And 99% of them will start drifting in under a year....
