Minecraft

References to Minecraft's creator Markus "Notch" Persson have been removed from the game as part of its latest update.

Originally spotted by Twitter user @decrepitlab, and then confirmed by PC Gamer, the update has removed two quotes referencing Persson which would usually appear on the game's splash screen. Previously, 'Made by Notch!' and 'The Work of Notch!' would be amongst the messages that could appear; the update has seemingly replaced these with new quotes like 'Don't worry, be happy!' and 'Go to the dentist.'

Microsoft has yet to confirm why these changes have been made, although the general consensus suggests that it's likely as part of a move to distance the game's family-friendly name away from Persson as much as possible. Since selling developer Mojang and all Minecraft ownership rights to Microsoft in 2014, Persson has become a controversial figure online, generating a negative reputation thanks to multiple comments made on Twitter.

Despite these changes, Persson is still credited as the game's creator.
