Alongside Nintendo's latest financial results, which were shared earlier today, small tidbits of information surrounding release dates for future games have also been tweaked, updated, and revealed in the process. One such game is Fitness Boxing, a title that was first announced by Imagineer just over a month ago.
The game's initial announcement revealed that Fitness Boxing will continue where the Shape Boxing series on Wii left off - whether this game is acting as a sequel is still unclear, but the original series sold around 800,000 copies worldwide. Fitness Boxing reportedly uses the Joy-Con to simulate boxing exercises.
Little else is known about the title just yet, although Nintendo is expected to take over publishing duties in all regions other than Japan. If the game adopts a Wii Fit-style approach, this could be yet another title that aims to secure a non-gaming audience for Switch in a similar fashion to Nintendo Labo.
The latest information reveals that Fitness Boxing will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch in Europe and North America this winter.

But can I create LABO-style gloves for it? That's the real question.
I miss Wii Sports.
We'll see if its just a ploy to use their underutilized motion controls or not. Would be real cool if its an actual fun game (though, cant this just be a punch out game? or better yet, a labo kit).
Hey, if you enjoy this stuff, knock yourself out.
Finally, a release to keep the investors happy, although I'm not too happy about this 'exercise' malarkey.
Give us Mii Sports already, damn it!!!
Count me in for this.
Is this a game or body movement software?
Heck, why not, I’ll play it. I need the exercise.
Just give me a proper licensed boxing game:
I do not want it to involve exercise!
Mario can be involved...
Always wanted to know who would win Frank Bruno or Mario.
Chris Eubank or Yoshi.
Make it happen
I don’t understand why they aren’t making a new Wii Sports (with a different name obviously). Wii Fit too. I’d buy both.
@ieatdragonz Your username is awesome.
I seriously hope this isn't what Reggie was talking about. This and a new Labo kit don't count as new software in my eyes.
@justin233 switch sports ( SS )
@justin233 Agreed. I'd be all over that just for the simple fact of the fun times had by family and all during the Wii days
@Spoony_Tech you can say that again!
@Spoony_Tech yeah, no way this is it.
Oooh, wonder if you get interchangeable arms?
@Anti-Matter Now this sounds like something you'll like!
You know what? I'm happy about this. Fitness games go down well in my home. However, between my Wii U dying and Microsoft pretending the Kinect never happened there hasn't been one for a while now, so I'll be grabbing this.
Could be fun. I'll wait and see how much content it has, and what the pricing is like.
If it's too expensive, though, I might as well just nab ARMS.
It's actually connected to LABO more than you think. Fitness boxing isn't about punching, it's actually about making boxes.
Lots of boxes. So many boxes that you get fit doing it.
Doubt it’s gonna have any sort of online leaderboard or online battle like wii sports club but hey, a man could dream.
Honestly. I couldn't care less. It'll quickly come and go with a whimper i'd imagine.
@HobbitGamer same. I love Wii Sports. The tennis game was my favorite.
This looks promising if it follows the Wii Fit model. The simpler it is, the better the product will be, I think.
Yeah...that is what the hardcore fanbase want. 🤨
Welp, if it is fully featured I'm all over this. Boxing is my favorite game in wii sports. I guess ARMS was prep?
@MrGawain
This is genius, and I so want it to be true!!! 😆
@MrGawain YES. Then when you’re done, you can make unboxing videos online.
“Box your cat! Box your children! Box your neighbors! With Fitness Boxing on Nintendo Switch, you can box anyone, anywhere, and anytime. I’m boxing right now, and loving it!” *Boxes sold separately.
"For your health!" Dr. Steve Brule
@N8tiveT3ch - Hardcore fanbase is insatiable. I know many that doom the Switch for not having F-Zero out on it already. And let's not forget how many clamor about how bad this E3 was because it was omitting one game many here wanted to see, Animal Crossing.
Here is the perspective; This was a financial meeting. What is said here is often on the whims of what investors want. And investors dont WANT to hear about a game that may take more resources cause the fanbase wants it. They want to hear about expanding brands of minimal efforts with a track record of a high profit margin. Unless it is Mario or Pokémon, they're more turned on over casual approaches cause the ease of resources.
@Leu10antFalcon “You can’t brox a kangaroo, ya dingus!” Is said at the failure screen for a boss fight.
Another game that no one asked for!
@marnelljm "Another game that no one asked for!"
And yet it will probably be a huge hit in Japan. The Japanese seem to really like these quirky kinds of games, and I think people sometimes forget that Nintendo is a Japanese company first and foremost.
I might check it out if it's very different from Arms. I felt like in Arms I was boxing a lot of the time.
Okay, I’ll take it at a reasonable price. I think we are not just happy anymore with the training and/or game simulation. We are expecting also a story, fun game modes and beyond!
The screenshot doesn't look god.
But I guess it's clearly a game aimed to non-gamers, as the piece says. I'll stick to Smash Bros when it comes to making Little Mac and Mario fight.
@Moroboshi876 The screenshot that's from Smash?
Why does it have to be fitness boxing? Why cant it just be the next best greatest boxing game ever? What about a boxing game that truely takes advantage of these so called futuristic joycons let us control the movements and uppercuts and hooks and jabs realistically make it to where if we throw a slanted left hook by god in the game he throws a slanted left hook. We need q great boxing game thatll take advantage of the joycons movements let us become the boxer
@HobbitGamer Lol. Didn't know. But both characters sure look different in this picture.
Anyway, it's time for a new Punch-Out game, now that we have separate hands motion control again.
@Moroboshi876 That'd be fun. ARMS laid the groundwork.
And now I've got 8-bit Punch Out music looping in my head.
@JoyconGang And if you put the IR sensor near your mouth, you can bite your opponent's ear!
Just don't let Camelot do the controls. They were horribly slow in MTA, and the wind up meant you couldn't prepare much at all for a sudden change.
It all depends on how good it is, but I’m interested.
@HobbitGamer lmfao so we can pull the Tyson ultimate combo on our opponents niceeeeeee lol
@Matthew010
I hope, because there is No any screenshots so far, i keep my hype first until i saw the screenshots and the trailer.
They should just make a new punch out game with a fitness boxing sub-game in it.
Either way I'm a boxing fanatic so I'll probably get this
Ummm...
Ok...
Any more information other than a name and release window??
Btw, if you are not familiar with Fit Boxing, do you know Gold's Gym Cardio Workout on Wii ?
Perhaps this will refresh your memories.
@Stocksy
"Just give me a proper licensed boxing game"
I would like Nintendo / 3rd party developers create a Cute Boxing game with Boxer design like my drawing.
Okay, I want this.
Nooooooo! I hope to God this flops....
I'd like to to see a new version of Wii Fit for switch.
@Anti-Matter I am sorry but this is just awful design ... Beside you how many people would like to play such a game?
I like this idea! One of the few things I liked on the Wii were the sports games. Boxing was one of my favorites!!! I used to legally beat my wife all the time! Lol. If they wanna make some games like this I'm all for it. Don't ignore 3rd aaa titles though. I demand baseball and other sports too! Just need the energy to play these games.
@marnelljm Who asked for Splatoon?
This article reminds me that I'd like a... "Switch" Fit, though I'd doubt they'd integrate the Wii Balance Board, so I'm not sure how it would all come together without them introducing a Switch Balance Board.
@NYCallday I’d prefer a punch out any day but this isn’t aiming for the punch out crowd. It’s casual marketing BS for the investors. Shame.
I don’t understand why they haven’t released an updated Wii sports optimised for multi-screen local co-op. Boxing in table top mode with back to back switches would be ace IMO. It’s be like actually smashing your mate around the face.
I wonder has anyone managed to walk around the earth with their wii fit meter?
@marnelljm no one asked for Wii Fit either
@Anti-Matter Now I want to play your boxing game!
@Zuljaras
Do you mind with my design, Mr. Complainer ?
I'll keep going be ME, Whether you like or not.
Yeah!!!
@Anti-Matter I liked your designs. So bleh to him. You got decent art skills. Maybe a game like those chibi 3D types? Or maybe really nice sprite work, though don't know if that'd transition well.
If Nintendo really wants to succor a large portion of non-gamers for their audience like the Wii, they really do need more sports games with wide appeal.
I'm sure the more gimmicky side like 12 Switch and Labo brought in a few thousand. But c'mon, it should be a no-brainer why Wii Sports is so popular, people like sports and they think it's cool to play like a pro.
I wish they would do another Wii Fit. My Wii Fit U no longer saves my daily fit credits or calories. They simply vanish once I reload the game. It does keep track of my total fit credits and total steps, though. At least I can continue trying to finish all of the Fit Meter challenges.
@SMW
"My Wii Fit U no longer saves my daily fit credits or calories. "
Huh ?!
How could it be ?
Only if our trainer is Little Mac's boxing coach.
@MrGawain
Does this mean we're free labor?
@Anti-Matter
Cute designs.
i think it will be like wii fit, but hd rumble will be added to the mix
A friend of mine was just asking about exercise games for Switch, so I'll be keeping an eye on this to see if it's in the vein of what they may like.
I've actually stored up a good number (5+) of exercise/dance games on Wii that I've yet to really go through, but I'm hoping to get to them soon as I've cleared out a lot of my old games backlog. They're a fun way to relax but also grow/maintain good health irl, so if done right there's a lot of potential in gamifying good habits
I'm willing to give it a shot, as long as the gameplay is different enough from arms.
@DannyBoi Thanks for the compliment! (and sorry for not noticing until the next day)
I need more exercise maybe I'll try it
@Anti-Matter I have the same Wii Fit data from the first 2 Wii Fit games, so I am guessing it reached a limit on how many days it could keep track of.
Dreams of punch out become the champion ruined!. This will flop I mean Wii sports was really good because it had a selection of games not just boxing. Even with Nintendo's sometimes magic touch i can't see this being a sucess.
I agree that a Wii sports game would be awesome. That was my/is my favorite game on Wii.
I still have my Wii fit board and used it through my WiiU life cycle. They could release another and I would purchase it. bring it Nintendo.
@MrGawain It’s all a ploy to box yourself in your own home, making boxes
