Nicalis has confirmed that its upcoming fighting game Blade Strangers is on track for a summer 2018 release on Nintendo Switch (with a physical edition and suggested retail price of $39.99), and will also be hitting arcade game centres in Japan.
The game embraces a traditional and streamlined four-button control scheme that offers accessible controls for new fighting fans, while also including intricate combos, counters, and special moves to provide tournament-caliber competitors with endless opportunities to hone their skills. There will be a story mode, missions, arcade and versus modes, as well as a highly competitive online mode for you to sink your teeth into.
The game's roster includes newly-created fighters in addition to characters from previous Studio Saizensen games, Nicalis games (like Cave Story+) and four surprise guest stars yet to be announced. The current confirmed roster of playable characters includes:
• Curly Brace (Cave Story+)
• Solange (Code of Princess EX)
• Ali (Code of Princess EX)
• Liongate (Code of Princess EX)
• Master T (Code of Princess EX)
• Kawase (Umihara Kawase series)
• Noko (Umihara Kawase series)
• Emiko (Umihara Kawase series)
• Lina (all-new character)
• Helen (all-new character)
So, what are your thoughts on this one? Will you be giving it a go?

I don't care for any of those characters except Curly
Hopefully the game plays good. I've still not decided on the obligatory fighting game for my Switch.
@SmaggTheSmug I'm going with Street Fighter Collection, and then Guilty Gear XX when it comes out. Blazblue's roster doesn't appeal to me at all.
@SmaggTheSmug
Me neither. I'm waiting for the Pocket Rumble reviews, but I guess it'll be either that or Garou.
That giant kitty sold me.
YEEEEES, IT'S ABOUT TIME!!! (And to think I would've just been ok with a vs mode in Code of Princess that was similar to that in Guardian Heroes)
@NinjaWaddleDee Both of those appeal to me. I'm also wondering about Pokken and Smash Bros.
I'm thinking of something more for causal multiplayer meetings than hardcore fighting game action anyway. So a ridiculous looking fighter is a plus.
Looks cool but unfortunately have no connection to any of those characters. Smash and (hopefully) Soul Calibur 6 will scratch my fighting itch this year!
I want to try out Curly and Kawase.
This game looks awesome. I’ll familiarize myself with the characters once I own it. I intend on getting Code of Princess for Switch anyway.
This is definitely rad! I'm glad the Switch is getting so many games of so many genres. GOOD ON 'EM.
Hopefully, the music isn’t as horrendous as the trailer suggests. I’ve had this preordered for a while now. Hope it comes together well. Looks cool though.
Credit Card is ready and waiting....
Even though Kawase sold me on the product, I'm still holding out for this game to be good. It may not be on a level close to Dragon Ball FighterZ (which I'm playing right now on PS4; it's decent), but I'm not expecting Blade Strangers to be bad either.
right on I am going to get this one because of reasons.
Looks fun, but whats is with the big cat? Is that supposed to be one of the norwegian forest cats she is interested in? Because when I read her interest in the game (3DS version of Umihara Kawase) I thought she ment lynxs
I'm excited for this! Mainly for the code of princess characters (love that game) and curly brace.
This game looks legit.
Between Blade Strangers, Fantasy Strike, BlazBlue Crosstag Battle, SNK Heroines, Street Fighter Collection, Smash Bros, Guilty Gear, and ARMS, Pokken Tournament and Ultra Street Fighter II, I'd say Switch fighters are starting to pile up nicely.
Really excited for BlazBlue and SNK Heroines though. They've got some awesome characters in both of those games.
Despite having zero knowledge of these characters (though I hear Cave Story is good so should prob pick it up?)
I like me some casual fighting and with a playable cat? Well I'm pretty sure the missus will be on board 😁
So many 2D fighting games coming for Switch lately. Still where's all the 3D fighters at: Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Power Stone, Rival Schools/Project Justice, Fighting EX Layer, etc?
@retro_player_22 Pokken? Though I agree, more 3d fighters would be much appreciated...
The giant cat gave me Waku Waku 7 feels...
Also, I think Solange Sword should be bigger, I do remember dragging a Giant Sword in Code of Princess.
@Audiobrainiac Code of Princess is SUCH a fun (and funny) game... the frame rate is rough, but if you have ever played Guardian Heroes on Sega Saturn or XBOX Live, then you'll feel right at home
@SheerCold haha ya it was pretty ridiculous.... which is why I loved it!!!
@retro_player_22 I would never let go of my Switch if any or all of those happen 😅😅😅
I’ve seen better looking 2D fighters, I’ll wait for a review.
Pixel people and a giant hampster. Where do I sign ?
I'd like a new 2D fighter with interactive environments. You know, when you smash the other player to the ground, and they break through the floor and you end up in a different space...things like that. Just a regular 2D fighter with static environments isn't as exciting to me in 2018.
I love a good 2D fighter. I'll take this and the new Switch version of Code of Princess (closest we'll get to a new Guardian Heroes atm).
@SmaggTheSmug The obligatory fighting game for Switch this year are SNK Heroines, SF 30th Anniversary Collection, and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, In my opinion.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Dragon Ball FighterZ to be announced at E3, however...
