Detective Pikachu

Production on the upcoming live-action Detective Pikachu movie has been progressing at a slow and steady rate, but the actor behind the titular role has been kept tightly under wraps until now. The running joke on the internet was that Danny DeVito should be the one, but it would of course be fascinating to see who would be picked to bring such an iconic character to life on the big screen for the first time. Now, the told of Detective Pikachu has finally been cast.

Ryan Reynolds—of Deadpool fame—has been picked for the role of Detective Pikachu. The story of the film will see Justice Smith’s character’s father kidnapped, and he’ll turn to the little mouse detective for help in tracking him down. Amusingly enough, the role has been said to be “motion-capture in nature”, so expect to see a bit of Reynolds in Pikachu.

What do you think? How will Reynolds do in the role? Who would you have picked? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
