Ahead of its October release, Nintendo has been releasing a series of quirky 'Rescue V' videos to promote Paper Mario: Color Splash. Mimicking '80s TV, they feature different groups of Toads helping Mario through tough spots.
This week showcases the Coliseum stage first seen in last week's Nintendo Minute episode, with the Yellow Toad squad apparently being a group of posturing, aggressive scrappers. Still, in the right circumstances that can be helpful.
So there you have it - Yellow Toads, the macho squad that's always eager to win. We're not sure they're the most lovable group ever, but it takes all types...

Toads! Toads! Toads! Toads! Toads! Toads! Toads! Toads!
I was watching a video this morning on here but I won't embed it as some might consider it a spoiler. I think most can nearly guess who it is.

That's how original this game is and how much they're trying.
Edit: Here's another spoiler, well a prediction. Episode 5 will be Purple Toads and Episode 6 will be Green Toads. ~shakes head~
Turnip !!
I wonder what will happen if we Summon a Turnip....
sighs I'm not even going to give this game a chance with these stupid toads everywhere. -.-
Why!
I find these videos to be pretty funny, but sadly they are not influencing my decision to buy to game. This is my favorite Toad video yet! I love the colosseum part where all the enemies run away! XD
So pumped and so excited for this game.
No other consoles get creative genius like this!
DOOOOOD!! You get the star and get to kick some @$$?! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Episode V will be Green Toads. It says at the end of the video in the article.
This looks like fun.
I have no problem with Nintendo's 'generic' toads 'obsession'. I loved the toads in sticker star for reasons people disliked them. I was entertained by the personality that the writing was able to squeeze out of essentially a single character design. That looks to be intensified with this game and I'm very curious about what it holds.
the falling blue toad in the beginning XD
@NinChocolate
I agree. Personality is more than just looks.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Honestly, I don't think you-know-who is the villan. Peach specifically says he seems different, and not just the paint...
Ah, so this is where all the negativity that I expected would be on NL's preview of the game is manifesting!
I wonder if I should play Sticker Star before this one. Mind you I keep wanting to play The Thousand Year Door again first. Choices, choices.
@CrazedCavalier This is the only valid ''criticism'' that really remains in face of all the new info disproving the notion that Color Splash repeats all of Sticker Star's blunders (it's still subjective, though).
Plus, hating on Toads is popular due to their defining role of ''Thank you Mario! But the Princess is in another castle!''
Still struggling to get excited for this. It doesn't help that the only original characters shown for it so far are a bucket and even more Paper Toads. I'm so sick of Paper Toads.
I really liked the RPG nature of the old Paper Mario, it's a shame they're ditching it but if that's the way they want to take it then that's fine. It's the characters and story I miss. The Paper Mario world felt so different to the regular Mario one, like the whole Mario world had evolved differently there. That's gone now. I don't care about the Koopalings being in paper form, I've fought them hundreds of times before rendered in all sorts of ways. I had to force myself to finish Sticker Star and Super Paper Mario, then Paper Jam I just quit from boredom. I knew where the plot was going they seemed almost proud at the lack of it (even the joke about it being the same plot is worn out now), and there wasn't even any of the original characters from the Mario & Luigi series either. Based on the trajectory with nothing but Paper Toads to sway me, I just can't bring myself to bother with it.
@Ogbert
Toads maybe everywhere, but check the latest trailer. There are some Shy Guys, Koopas, Goombas, Hammer Bros , Boos and many more. Cheer up, Toads are still adorable to see. They are parts of Nintendo. How could you so boring with Koopalings, Toads and etc while you're not boring to see Mario + Luigi over and over again ?
BTW, I think all new characters on Super Paper Mario was not so memorable, even Dimentio. Yeah, maybe very Pesky Evildoer but his existence not so memorable to me. Not so many charms or charisma or something memorable.
So, if you unsatisfied by Super Paper Mario with very different new characters, Sticker Stars with Toads everywhere, what series do you like most ? Even TTYD still have some Goombas, Koopas, Toads, etc in different version.
Lol
"Green video is next... you can probably skip that video"
Lool, Paper Mario goes Ben Hur. Probably better then the new Ben Hur though!
@Anti-Matter I'm not wanting those staple Mario enemies removed. And Super Paper Mario was disappointing for entirely different reasons. I'd actually say Sticker Star was a step back in the right direction but ultimately the lack of character ruined it.
The thing the first two games had was a unique take of the Mario staples. Goombas weren't all the same generic enemy, they had individual characters, it gave the whole place a sense of..place! It felt like a real world. Now all I see if a village with Paper Toads that you're lucky if they even vary in colour. They don't even have particularly varying characters when you speak to them.
It's all so generic now. The enemies, the environments, the plot.
@Ogbert the environments are generic? It may be by paper mario standards, admittedly, but compared to more recent mario games, the environments are highly un-generic! When was the last time mario wound up in a stadium? Or travelled on a train?
