Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the latest adventure in the Pokémon franchise, this time bringing with it a whole new open world, new catching mechanics and more.

While the deep mysteries of Hisui, and which Pokémon you’re going to encounter, are left for you to solve, there are a few quests that you might need a bit of help with — and the Sea Legend side quest is one of them.

The Sea Legend guide Pokémon Legends: Arceus

The Sea Legend is a side quest that was actually first referenced in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. In a book, in Canalave library, the following text can be found:

This book is titled "The Sea's Legend." It's a text that was only recently discovered, and its ancient letters were decoded. Once upon a time in the East Sea, there was a Pokémon known as the prince. A brave human asked Pokémon living in the sea to let them see the prince.
Mantyke, Buizel, and a Qwilfish with huge spikes acknowledged the human's bravery and joined them. Together, they set off in a boat over the sunset-streaked sea, sailing through the ocean gate stretched over the waves. News of this reached the ears of the prince, who went to meet the brave little party at the Seaside Hollow.

As you continue your journey in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the professor will give you a side quest that references this legend, and little other information. If you’re not keen on firing up your copy of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl to work it out for yourself — or if you don't own that game — have no fear, because you're reading the right guide!

The three Pokémon you need

You’ll need a Mantyke, which is easily catchable in the Cobalt Coastlands, a Buizel, which is easily catchable in the Obsidian Fieldlands, and an Overqwil. In order to get an Overqwil, you’ll need to catch a Quilfish and have it use Barb Barrage 20 times using Strong Style. It’ll evolve after you use it for the 20th time.

Head to the massive horns

After you have those three Pokémon, head to the massive horns in the middle of the sea in the Cobalt Coastlands during the in-game evening. If you’ve done it correctly, you’ll get a brief cutscene indicating that you can now proceed with the quest.

Go to Seaside Hollow

Then head to the small cave to the southwest of Seagrass Haven called Seaside Hollow. Inside, you’ll find Manaphy, and 3 Phionne. You can catch all of them, but be careful, as taking on 4 Pokémon at once can be difficult.
