@Chicken Brutus - That's right! They DID have powerups in the first game.
I don't remember reading about the power-ups in the manual. I'll have to look at it again. There's alot going on at times, plus the don't look like normal power-ups in other games, So I might have overlooked them.
It's so frantic and the D-pad so small that I often hit two directions at once.
As for the "power-up" white pixel, you can't miss it. When you hit it, the game will say CHALLENGE across the screen, and you'll see the Core rotate. In my experience, it has always rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise, so I just adjust my remote so the IR emitter thingy is pointing at me and play without much challenge at all.
depending on how well you've been playing at the moment the power-up/challenge bit hits the screen, too, it can either be a plain white pixel drifting across the screen or it may be a little white comet trailing its square-littered and sparkly tail (i think it sparkles, anyway) behind it, so at that point it's really hard to mistake for something not-special. :3

This is true...except when you're in the nether zone, in which case everything is white, and you don't get the CHALLENGE indicator. I wouldn't mention that, except that the first time I hit the CHALLENGE pixel I was in the nether zone, and I thought the wii remote was malfunctioning. I lost the game because I didn't understand what had happened. My own fault, obviously, but that didn't make me curse any less.
PS--I DID see the core rotate...I just didn't connect the two until it was too late. I'm what you would call a slow learner.
Eh, I don't think it's your fault at all. The Nether mode is an amusing concept, but it's really flawed in that regard. The intent, I assumed, was to make things simpler so that you could recover easier, but in my experience it makes the game harder -- well, in Core at least, maybe not Beat. Not being able to see which beats are challenges in Nether seems really unfair.
I've never been in Nether at that point, though, fortunately.
Man...I CANNOT beat this second boss. The trouble is with the fast missiles that come in from side to side in the lower two quadrants. You only have one chance to hit them, and it's hard as heck to do so, because, unless you have it memorized, you can't predict when they're coming!
Also, if they destroy your little "bases" or whatever at the bottom of the screen, do you die more quickly than usual? It seems like I can only afford to miss two or three missiles before my game ends!
I've played it so many times I'm becoming a master of level 2...I more than tripled the default high score, but I can't beat the darn boss!
Tails86 found a big problem in the game (I've tested it 3 times myself). In level one (Discovery) if you have the highest multiplier (Mega, i think) and use your bomb on the two rainbow-squares that intersect from left-right at the bottom of the screen, it will freeze your game every time!
This is the second game fron Aksys/Gaijin with an unfixed bug. I better see a patch soon!
but who is really go use a bomb there, A it is in the first level :easy mode, and B: it is in a section between levels: also known as the easiest parts of both games, its a glitch that should not have been found except by people who want to find glitches, has anyone come across this glitch on accident

I'm in the same boat as you Chicken Brutus, it's getting to the point that I don't want to go through the entire level again to get another shot at the boss because the rest of the level is too easy to hold my interest. I'm determined to beat him eventually though!

I've had my game freeze once in Exploration (2nd level), when going into another transition (I think it was the 4th transition). After hitting the 'rainbow' beats to go to the next transition, the 5 color bars appeared on screen, then it froze (with an annoying loud high-pitched tone).
Yes, this bug that Chatham mentioned that Tails86 found does indeed exist. I experienced it firsthand last night. I never use the bombs but I was trying them out at that part in the first stage just before Transition on those last rainbow colored beats and my Wii froze. I mean completely; the screen is just stuck at that spot! None of the buttons worked on my Wii Remote and I couldn't even reset or turn the system off manually; I actually had to unplug it from the wall! I tried it several times just to make sure and it happened every time. I told Corbie about it last night and he tried it out and it happened to him too. I guess I'm not going to use bombs anymore for the time being. I hope there is a patch to fix this bug soon!
Beat the boss of level 2! Though I admit there was a lot of luck in it.
Level 3, oddly enough, I made it to wave 2 of the boss the second time playing! (The first time I died in the second segment.) For whatever reason, level 3 seems easier to me, even if it is more manic...but that's probably because I replayed level 2 so many times.
Also, I can say this: the music in level 3 is just gorgeous. Best Bit Trip tune yet. Any chance of releasing that as an mp3, Commander Video, like you did with Growth for Beat? Pre-soundtrack release, I mean.
FINALLY I beat the Exploration boss! The best way to get past his final two waves is just keep firing on each quarter-beat (even if there's nothing to hit) to make sure you don't get thrown off the rhythm. Cuz if you do you're pretty much screwed.
The third stage was really easy (got through it on my second try), but again the boss is extremely unforgiving. I hope it doesn't take me as long to beat it as Exploration's boss did.
