deserves a thread

probably will get this ASAP, but not sure if I'll play it soon. Too many other games I own that are actually new after all. This is actually the only announced GBA game I don't still own I think.

I never got far in the first game unfortunately. Would like to fix that as a big fan of the sequels.

I picked this up this morning.

Never played any advanced wars or subsequent titles as I am an old school PC gamer, but I'm going to give this a go and hope a new (Insert Name) Wars game comes out sometime for the 'U.

Gave it a bit of a whirl this morning, reasonably interesting for what it is.

Never played this, only the sequel and Dark Days/Days of Ruin, yet AW is one of my all time favourite franchises! DLing this ASAP!

After playing for over an hour, I think the composer for this series was somehow influenced by SNES Capcom games. That's what it reminds me of, especially the attempts to try to be rock sounding.

I forgot that this game doesn't even pretend that the first couple of hours are anything but a tutorial.

Well, I'll be happy if after 10 hours in we don't realise Haytham isn't actually the hero and we're meant to be Connor...hold on a minute..

I have it in GBA and I have the first DS version. I download it and it is very addictive like i remember. I love it. I hope they upload the 2nd part because i haven´t that.

Me gusta jugar videojuegos. Soy de México. Sorry my english grammar. I love the Virtual Console, party and fighting games too.

I lost my copy of this a long time ago, so glad to finally get it again! Though the tutorial missions are boring me already, at least I'm almost into the real game!

How does this compare to Fire Emblem, gameplay wise? I've never been a big fan of strategy games, and I just haven't been able to get into Fire Emblem (although I've only played the 3DS Ambassador one, Sacred Stones or whatever it is), and the video makes it look remarkably similar to that. This is the only of the confirmed GBA games that I have never played, but I'm not sure if I'll like it.

Fire Emblem is a turn based strategy RPG. Advance Wars is a turned based strategy game. So think Fire Emblem minus the RPG elements. There are no levels, no equipment, units that don't carry from mission to mission instead of a group of distinct characters... It's say it's easier than Fire Emblem, but if you don't like strategy games, well, this IS a strategy game, pure and simple. I love both series in different ways, but I enjoy strategy, and I can see where the gameplay has similarities.

Hope that answers your question!

Thanks @ShadJV. As much as I would like to give it a shot, the RPG parts are what I DO like about Fire Emblem, so it sounds like I won't enjoy this very much and that $8 can be more useful elsewhere. Maybe it will show up on Club Nintendo down the line.

Though you can spend money to buy more units during every turn, I'm sure there's a strategy somewhere between spending your allowance building up an army of crappy units every turn or saving for fewer good ones.

Not too surprising they're similar, Intelligent Systems created both series. They created the original Famicom Wars two years before the first Fire Emblem.

@Xyphone22 no prob, and I agree, if the RPG elements of Fire Emblem are the main things you like about it, this series likely won't hold your interest. It's quite purely a strategy game.

@KingMike yes, there is plenty of strategy in what units to buy when, but even more strategy in how you use them. Brute force or superior numbers may work for early missions, but later on that's simply not enough. The tactics you use become vital, such as baiting powerful units away from reinforcements, blocking off bridges, setting up ambushes, dividing and conquering... The series loves to start the player with a horrible disadvantage so they can't just mindlessly overpower the enemy.

A little OT, but if Intelligent Systems were to ever revive this series, it would be neat to see them take influence from Valkyria Chronicles.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

conman2012

I would be very interested if either this series was revived or perhaps battalion wars, but I also agree, Valkyria Chronicles looks good and would be a good inspiration for this series to follow.

I am a self-proclaimed "not a huge strategy game fan" who continues to get strategy games at a relatively consistent rate in the past 2-3 years. This amuses me.

also i can't wait to get past the tutorial, it's fine but it's also dreadfully slow.

Yeah, Battalion Wars would be a better fit if they took VC influence. I actually wouldn't be surprised if VC was influenced by BW to begin with.

Yeah, I'm wondering whether to skip it or not. It looks like it will take ages.

I got Advance Wars because all the good I heard about it. I only played Dual Strike which was ok. I am interested in checking out the beginning of the series. I hope I like it

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
