Hey, I was just wondering if anyone here could help me.
About a month ago, the Wii stopped reading disks well. If you inserted the disk enough, it would read it but you would get a disk error when you loaded it up. Well, since I know a little bit about Nintendo troubleshooting, I ordered a disk reader cleaning kit. It got here a couple days ago. I used it once and the pad was dirty so I replaced the pad and used it again and it still got some dirt off so I did it again and it seemed clean. I know I used the disk cleaner right so I'm sure it isn't that. Now it will read the disk every time you insert it so the disk cleaner did something. I never get a question mark error. However, when I load a game up it just makes a sound like "wurrrr click click click click click" and I get a disk error. I'm running out of ideas and I don't have the money to get it repaired at the moment (the warranty ran out a while ago) so if anybody has any advice or ideas then that would be great.
If it helps anybody, the wii is about 2 years old or so and I store it horizontally. Can't think of any other info that would be that useful.
This same exact thing happened this December so I had to send mine to nintendo where they replaced my disc drive and circut board so sorry, but sending it in is your only option.

I was beginning to suspect that I might have to send it in but I've seen situations that sound exactly like mine that were fixed with a cleaning kit. The laser can't be completely broken. However, the kit only made it better, it didn't fix it 100%. I guess I'll just play downloadable games until I have the money to get it repaired.
The only reason I was asking was because the support site on Nintendo seemed rather clear that the laser was only broken if it never would read or notice disks at all.
my local computer repair place is able to repair wii disk drives. if you have a similar shop near you, it might be worth asking them if they are capable of doing the repair job. this way, it`ll be done in half the time compaired to sending it off to nintendo and waiting for them to do it. when you do send off your wii to be repaired, make sure you note down your friend code number and the product code number on the side of your wii. should any problems arise, such as if it takes longer than suggested to be repaired, or if you get the wrong wii back, you can get it sorted if you have the correct information readily available.

The only problem I see with that is that by having someone else work on your Wii other than Nintendo is that it might void out the warranty.

DONE!!!! Paid for the original unit, games and accessories, sent for repair TWICE in 5 years, and Cant read disk error comes up again...Tried to repair myself but need special tool only Nintendo has (weird screw head holds case on).
Threw unit in garbage and WILL NEVER BUY NINTENDO PRODUCT EVER AGAIN, complete garbage!!!!
I had no idea the Wii had any technical problems. Still not as bad as the NES with its 95% failure rate. I can still get mine to work but it usually starts glitching out after 20-30 minutes.

Thank you!
are said games SSBB or Metroid other M? If not, then you have to repair it. The cleaner is meant to clean the wii lens to the point it reads Dual layer games like new. If it can't even read single layer games or gamecube, then the laser is probably broken instead of the lens. Send it to NOA if you can (Or if you are not in a major region like America or UK to send it in, find a repair shop near you)
