You'd think the headsets would run on the same WiiSpeak system. That would make the most sense. They're probably just discontinued the device (planning to replace it with the headsets) and not the service.
This. Until they discontinue the Wii Speak service itself, we can only assume that they're discontinuing the physical product. This could mean an improved version will be on the way... or it could not. Either way it's just speculation at this point.
And personally, I'd rather have a microphone on my coffee table than on top of my TV. My games room is pretty big and I don't know if a mic on top of my TV would pick up me on the couch.
@SKTTR I have The Conduit, MH3, and (obviously) the Speak Channel, but no one seems to really use it anymore lately :/
I used Wii Speak in Animal Crossing. I'm not playing it anymore - I got 400 hours out of it and collected almost everything and then stopped wasting more time on it.
I still use Wii Speak in Monster Hunter Tri. It seems most people don't know how to turn down the volume of the music and sound effects from 8 to 1. I guess these are the people who say Wii Speak is worthless. Of course it's worthless if they have music and sound effects on max volume. Normally I play with loud music and sound effects too, but in this game I want to understand what my team is planning. I could turn off the music and sound effects completely (to zero) but I don't want to disable the ambience of the game. And yes, there's a another option, I think.. Wii Speak sensibility or something, you have to manually change, somewhere hidden in the vast chaos of options this game offers. We all have the Wii Speak sensibility on Very High. The few online friends I play this game with use Wii Speak all the time. Makes fighting big baddies much easier and the game more fun.
I have one friend I play UNO with sometimes. Of course we use Wii Speak so we can not only play cards but also chat. It's quite ok.
And that's it I guess.... I only used the Wii Speak Channel once, to test it.
And yeah, I'm going to buy Endless Ocean 2, Tetris Party Deluxe and Mix Superstar at some point, so this makes it 6/12 games I'll use Wii Speak with.
Nintendo UK has contacted Eurogamer to say it has not discontinued Wii Speak, and that the Amazon listing referenced in the article below was an error.
therefore... move along, people, nothing to see here :3
