Topic: Nintendo is Lazy and Doesn't Care?

I don't understand how the Wii being underpowered comes into the equation at all. To do that Nintendo had to research what their customers REALLY wanted and take a huge risk that went against everything the industry has always been aiming for. That doesn't make them lazy, if anything its the opposite of lazy.

The same is true with the two toads, the lack of digital audio, the lack of achievements and everything else brought up. These things aren't lazy. The toads could maybe be called lazy but I really don't understand why its such a big deal. Nobody complains about Red Team vs. Blue Team in Halo, nobody complains about Luigi, nobody complains about etc, etc. At the end of the day it didn't impact gameplay so why should we care?

The digital audio argument is the same as the HD argument. Its not lazy to omit it its just good business sense. I am not an audiophile and considering the iPod became popular the vast majority of people aren't either so why is this lazy? most people wouldn't have used it anyway. The same was true of HD back in 2006 even if it isn't as true now.

I could go on and on about this but I think my point is pretty clear.

I was going to post a topic about this, but luckily there already is one.

Basically, I couldn't agree more with that article.

Kidpit

Well at least IGN gives the Wii a more fair treatment then...oh I don't know...Yatzhee of Zero Punctuation. Guy went so far asto say that New Super Mario Wii shouldn't have been made.

Also I thought Matt left the Nintendo team. Why is he still writing for Nintendo systems?

That's the master plan! He left the Nintendo team so now he can say horrible things about it! =P

I am making a video response to some of the comments on that thread. It will be well detailed and will take awhile. It'll be on Youtube and I may have to split it in parts.

And no, no one here is going to be a part of this.

I was expecting to go into this article and finishing it blind with rage, but it actually makes a lot of good points. Since Nintendo is dealing with a new audience, they think it gives them an excuse to put less effort in their games. They've never rehashed games like they have with the New Play Control series, and most of the game sin Wii Sports has less depth than most Flash games. Hell, Mario Galaxy is supposed to reuse some of the levels from the first one! It really is inexcusable.

I will say though that the whole Toad thing was absolutely laughable.

MetalMario

That article is slop from the first paragraph.

You are saving Princess Peach, of course Miyamoto is joking.

@Ricardo

Actually, I think Mario Galaxy 2 is just supposed to reuse about 5% of the first game. I think this is stuff like the Bee Suit and whatnot. It could mean Galaxies, but whatever.

God of War 3 is basically God of War in HD, that doesn't seem to bother anyone though... but when Mario goes back to its roots, Nintendo is being lazy. Seriously, I'll say it again, **** off.

Zelda would be so much better in HD... WHY? How does a higher resolution affect gameplay in any way? I love uncharted, and if it was the same game in low-def (which it is for me because I don't have an HDTV), it would still rock. The same is true for any Mario, Zelda or Metroid game in the world. A good game is a good game, and Nintendo makes that. If that's being lazy, I'm perfectly fine with it. Some developers like Bioware are apparently not lazy, but their games are usually filled with bugs (as great as the games actually are), but they're not lazy because they make mature games in HD. Seriously... what an old and stupid argument.

very interesting article. i thought he made some interesting points. i think he is a bit biased, certainly, and the points he chose to make weren't the best or strongest.... and i don't think Ninty's done poorly at all with the Wii. but i DO think they could do more. i would like to have already seen a new kid icarus, kirby and starfox game, as well as a couple other new hardcore offerings (Project H.A.M.M.E.R., anyone?), and maybe even a couple new entries on their casual side. how about a wii play 2 with more an better minigames, this time with motionplus? sure, if they'd done all this already, they'd still have a lot of time to burn... but THAT'S when you bring out galaxy 2, and other sequels.

It was the second comment on the first page, for me.

Bah, it was page 16 for me. Kicker is, after 15 pages I said to myself "Tom, it's probably the last page ..." so I went to the very last page, saw it wasn't there and then started working my way back. Figures that Murphy and his Law would arrange is to that it would be the very last possible page I could search on.

First people complain that the good titles are too few and far between... and then they complain that Nintendo is rushing them. The promise of Super Mario Galaxy 2, a new Zelda AND a new Metroid isn't enough for these people? I guess it's just impatience.

Actually we just recently bought a PS3 as a Blu-Ray player. I have to admit, I was really excited about getting a chance to play this AMAZING Uncharted 2 that everyone's been talking about. But when I loaded it up... I was actually pretty embarrassed playing it in front of my brother whom I'd told it was supposed to be one of the best games on the system. I ended up going back and playing NSMBW and Muramasa instead.

Okay, so I sound a bit biased perhaps? Maybe I am. But honestly, I hardly enjoyed it at all. Obviously I'm going to have to give the system more of a chance. After all I've only played one game, and I know there are games on the system that I do enjoy. But it's enough for me to confirm that flashy HD graphics (although they aren't actually that good - I prefer PC) don't make a good game. And yet review scores seem to be influenced by them... everyone seems to want "epic", not "fun".

Having said that, the PS3 was still a great buy . I can now buy my father a racing game for chistmas (imagine trying to do that on the Wii).

What they forget is Wii is still $100 cheaper than a PS3 (not sure about Xbox). Wii Sports was free. Wii Play was only $10 (and I had a lot of fun with it, actually). Both of those games are good for people new to gaming to help them get a feel of how the remote works, that was really the point. New games are also $50 compared to $60 or $70 for HD systems. PS360 is there to fill the demand for gamers who want the hottest new tech and are willing to pay for it. Wii is a much more affordable option.

They didn't add much to NPC games, so I doubt they took time away from major games, and they're budget titles. They're cheap, so yes there's not much there, but it fills in the gaps in the release schedule.

Have they cut some corners? Perhaps. You could also say they're prioritizing. Would adding more make the title cost more, and thus make it out of reach for x amount of people? Maybe. I for one have no problem with Nintendo games not having the power, because they're cheaper. They're still lots of fun. Also, given the economic downturn, that strategy turned out well for Ninty.

Now, about that star fox sequel...lazy jerks.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

So this guy doesn't understand the minimalist style of Wii Sports...not surprising. Seems a lot of "hardcore" gamers don't (and it does seem to me that this guy belongs in that category of gamers). And I swear, I'm getting sick and tired of hearing people say NSMBW looks exactly like the DS game. I started replaying the DS game shortly after buying and playing NSMBW, and NSMBW is DEFINITELY better-looking. Matter of fact, I look at that game and I honestly can't think of what they could've done to make it prettier. People be complaining for no damn reason.

I would've liked some other character options besides Toad (I still think a Wario/Waluigi set would be awesome), but the game's fun enough as it is that it really doesn't matter at all.

I'm a strong supporter of the New Play Control series, having bought all three they actually released in America (and my brother bought Metroid Prime Trilogy, which covers another two in the series). It's not lazy, it's a great value for great games!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... did these people actually play them side by side? The screenshots really don't do the game justice.
