I think it is a matter of taste. I thought it was a great game and my Brother likes it more then Galaxy 1 and 2. It was a great idea for a game, had graphics that would look good on the Wii, was original, and still had plenty of platforming. I think people weren't expect a Mario Shooter/Flying/Water Based/Fun game. Not to mention the excellent soundtrack and huge moveset Mario has. It even got a perfect score in Nintendo Power. Not even SMG 2 was able to do that. Overall it is pure fun and my 2nd favorite Mario game.

@Bones00 - ActRaiser's action acts are more comparable to that of Castlevania than Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, imo.

If you like Crash Bandicoot, then try Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers/Quack Attack (provided you can get over it's incredibly easy difficulty and brief length).
