Topic: I miss the Wii

I don't start very many threads, but I was looking up some videos of Wii games that I had missed out on, and couldn't help but think about how much I already miss it. Everyone gave it alot of criticism for having "sub-par" visuals, but it still looked great, and I'm actually glad that Nintendo was able to hold off on graphics and push motion control in exchange.

I miss the retro feel of its graphics. The Wii U is great and can do plenty more, but something about those "sub-par" graphics makes me miss the console. I don't know why. What are your guys' opinions on moving past the Wii?

I like the Wii.

I still own and play a lot of Wii games on the WiiU, so I can't say I miss it. Feels like I still own it.

I have a Wii U. I'm talking about the feel of the console and how I thought of it when I was younger. From my perspective, no one ever expects much from Nintendo, which gives them ability to exceed expectations. That's partially why I miss it.

That might have been true for the Wii and the DS since there were a lot of casuals buying these. These people seem to have moved on to smart devices and i'd say expectations towards games for the 3DS and especially the Wii U are a lot higher now.

I miss the Wii too but it's because mine broke years ago(a few months before getting my 3DS) and I don't have a WiiU.

EVERYBODY was talking about it, demo units in stores had long line ups, and even people who don't like video games, such as my parents and then-girlfriend, wanted one. Now the casual gamers have moved on to smartphone and tablet games.
I personally still love the system, though, and I still have a few Wii games in my backlog.

don't forget the Microsoft and Sony fanboys getting a Wii as secondary console to show how they hate the each other

I miss the Wii heyday, but I don't miss the Wii. I still have mine hooked up to the television right next to my Wii U. Plenty of space for both.

Don't miss it just go out and get the games you missed out on that you want to play. Plenty of good Wii games for cheap now. I just wish I wasn't so off put by the motion controls. I limited my Wii library a lot to games that I could play with the CCP.

don't know about home consoles, but you're pretty much the only person who never had a Wii, everyone had it PS3 players, XB360 players, Casuals, Nintendo gamers and even aliens!

Sounds like nostalgia to me. Great console though, some 40 or so fantastic games.

I absolutely know how you feel about the Wii and "sub-par graphics". There is a certain realism in grainy looking games. HD games are too surreal and not real world looking. I feel the same way you do but my system would be the N64. There is just something that is awesome about the first 3D games that hold a special place in my mind.

I can say I know that feeling and sadly I just dont get that same feeling with the Wii U. I mean I remember going from store to store looking for a Wii and finally happen to come across one at my local Walmart. I was so excited to get it I was like a kid at Christmas lol. I played my Wii alot too for that gen it was my console of choice. while I did have an Xbox 360 for the games I knew the Wii would never get like GTA IV and a few others after I finished that game I was right back to my Wii. The motion controls were unique too and blew me away especially with games like Star Wars the Force Unleashed (which was why I got the game on the Wii rather then the Xbox) and I enjoyed them for the most part. I am hoping that the Wii U can achieve the same kind of success but so far it just hasn't been able to capture me like the Wii did.

That's why I'm saying that I miss it. 3DS and Wii U expectations are through the roof. All the Wii had to do was use GCN/Xbox graphics with some motion control and make good and cheap games for people.

@RancidVomit86
The main one for me is RedSteel 2. I played all the major Wii games when they still new. Maybe The Last Story, too...

@Nintex
Yup. I was looking at comparison videos between Xbox 360 and Wii versions of games. It's amazing how people rode it off, just because CoD wasn't in HD.

I never got around to doing Wii to Wii U the data transfer, so I still use my Wii every now and again.
The graphics were good enough for me. I think the older I get, the less I care about graphics. I just want to have fun. I still go back to a lot of my Wii games and play them, whereas I have things on PS3 that I haven't touched in two years.

What I really liked about the Wii was that it challenged developers to do different things with their games and to get crafty. There was a lot of shovelware, don't get me wrong... but there are some decent titles to play. It's also my favourite system for multiplayer simply because the selection is fantastic.
