Hey guys, i haven't picked up any motion plus' yet, might pick up sports resort or despite not liking a lot of the sports (i may choose tiger instead). However, i was just wondering how long do you think it will be until all games are using motion plus and motion plus becomes a most have piece of hardware for wii owners to play games.

Motion Plus functionality won't actually become a true Nintendo "standard" until the next generation console, when that functionality will undoubtedly be native in the controller. 'Til then, it will be relegated to mostly specialty games.

I'm with Vendetta, I think we'll see quite a few games that make specific use of it, but I'm not sure if it will become a standard this generation. I guess it will depend on how popular it becomes and how much Nintendo pushes it.

how do you guys know we are staying with wiimote controllers and nunchucks? is nintendo not planning on changing anything except adding HD next gen? Now that i think about it, i think HD might be all we need, but that shudnt be considered a new console. it shud be what the DSi was to the DS, an upgraded version of the system.

I can see it becoming necessary to get enhanced play out of games in the future (kinda like the N64's Expansion Pak gave you enhanced graphics and such for certain games), and maybe being absolutely required for a couple of games, but as for it becoming a must-have piece of hardware in order to play future Wii releases... i dunno about that. not without them selling it bundled in with said releases.

Last year, though, they were discussing whether or not future Wiimotes will have the M+ functionality built in, so you never know. ::shrug::

I dont really expect Nintendo to push it as much as third partys to be all over it forcing Nintendo to make use of it in order to keep up.

Miyamoto has has made it clear that a hand-held controller will be part of the Nintendo Console ecosystem for the foreseeable future. It only stands to reason that current enhanced functionality will be native in their next controller. I won't delve too deeply into speculation about other next-generation features though - but they can have my wishlist if they want.

I agree with Vendetta and Corbie. I think it won't become standard until the next generation.

Maybe not every game but Miyamoto did say that you'd need it for the next Zelda did he not? I'm wondering if eventually all the first-party stuff will use it as standard. Some software could use the standard remote but offer enhanced controls with use of motion-plus.

This is 100% correct.

Not every developer will go with Motion Plus and limit their potential customers.

No chance of it becoming a standard this gen.

@DaDun: It was meant in comparison to Microsoft's Project Natal, which uses no in-hand controller at all, just the camera.

I'm quite certain Wii Motion Plus won't become the default standard for Wii games. As it's been said, it's just too limiting to the consumer base. It'll probably be an on-the-box touted feature in a good number of games, just like Balance Board support.

Don't get cute, DaDun... or I'll post pictures of bongo controllers, balance board controllers, drum-kit controllers, dance-pad controllers... and don't get me started on Natal.

Probably never. Nintendo likes to keep everything optional. It's all on devs and their own ambition (while it at times benefits the consumer, having serious rules and mandates for anything is a little silly). What will happen is the WSR, WM+ installed base will be huge and even if Nintendo doesn't take too much advantage of it (like the balance board) plenty of 3rd parties will. I really see it used sorta like the N64 RAM Pack or retail dsi games where you get added benefits for using the device. Look up Avatar: the Game for a good idea of where I feel m+ is headed.

I expect more 3rd party use for "core" titles; I'm hoping to be surprised by something new though; not just imitations of things in Wii Sports Resort.

well truth is not all games need it.. but i think all games that focus on motion controls will have to use it or risk being boring wagglefests.

but what i mean is, already estalbished game genres wont need it.. racing games, FPS, RTS, RPG, beat em ups.. none of those truly need M+, but then genres that are specific to motion controls, be they new or modified versions of traditional ones, things like swordplay games or motion controlled beat-em-ups.. they will need it.

Mmmm... Wii Balance Board sells very well and we only see one or two titles really created for it. Nintendo has part of responsability in it as with Mario Kart Wheel. No games, no more use of the peripheral, because million seller third party games are a rarity; only EA Sports Active do the job well.

Wii Sports Resort is selling very, very well, but if the future of Wii Motion Plus is the same as Wii Balance Board... R.I.P.

I expect Nintendo will create more games for it (Zelda is announced), throw his popularity, and give some ideas to the other companies, dry of creativity in this generation.

the new zelda game coming in 2010 is gonna use motion + and red steel 2! those games will give third party dev the push for using it some more!
