@Dezzy, if you end up getting frustrated and want to move on, here's how I happened upon Noctilum my first time. I'll put it in spoilers just in case, but this won't really spoil anything other than "Noctilum exists, here's a way to get there and pick up a quest item along the way."
There's a huge lake in western Primorida with two waterfalls on its north end. Each of those waterfalls is the start of a river. Swim up the river to the right until you reach two more waterfalls in succession. From here, you can jump up the rocks to the left of the waterfalls (remember to use your sprint button even if you're just standing still — you'll jump much higher/further that way). Before you go, though, you can jump from the left rocks over to the right to get the glowing red item, which is the Cleansing Moss you'll need for one of the side missions. Then just follow the rocks up the left side and you'll come to a pond/clearing — veer left and follow the path into Noctilum's front door.
I'm sure there's a more direct way, but this is the one that worked for me without getting lost or killed, anyway.
Ner, I'm fine with doing things organically in a game like this. The minute-to-minute experience of the game is so good, and it's so enjoyable just existing in this world, that it's very hard to get frustrated with anything.
looks around on the internet
Well it looks like I screwed something up in character creation, apparently I had more options than I thought...But for whatever reason it would not let me change the face again. (I've pressed everything, too, it would not let me go back that far for some reason, lol)
Eh, at least I now know I can fix that soon-ish without having to restart my game.

Keep it PG-13-ish.

I agree. Carry on and enjoy — you'll come across it sooner or later, possibly in a totally different way.
15 hours into this game and finally understand some of the more crunchy bits (FrontierNAV and mining being the most important one). Probably the most important thing though was figuring out the Arts and the necessity (at least for me) to focus on either the melee or ranged weapon. Being able to stay on a single weapon to double charge the abilities has been a boon in battles, along with then need to keep certain abilities in reserve for Soul Voices (healing).
I do wish that Japan would drop the 13 year-olds that have training that takes decades to achieve love. I really hate being stuck with a character that even in this insane sci-fi setting makes zero sense.
^ I think she is one of the better characters so far.
BTW, not many ppl I see on the forums seem to know this, but if you are stuck on an affinity mission and you need a specific part/thingie of a monster. Try to lock on on that specific part of the monster you think might drop that certain something. Some items/parts won't be given to you if you don't break a certain part of the enemy. It's like monster hunter in that way. Might save you quite some grinding time.
Can someone clarify? If I join an online based squad, party members other than Lin & Elma become unavailable, and I'm required to recruit player avatars.
So... i just checked my play time and i have played more XCX than the entire month of november and other months. Currently i have played 35 hours in 4 days, half of my saturday i ended playing XCX - 12h. I can't wait to see how that number is gonna change at the end of december.
Are the data packs really needed? I'm about 7 hours in and have been pleasantly surprised with the loading times so far (25 seconds max, and that's rare). I've yet to play online so maybe the data packs will be more useful for that, or later on in the game? Think I'll give them a miss for now - anybody else happy playing without them? Or, can anybody provide reasons why I should need them?
@Tsurii Okay so maybe 25 seconds was exaggerating a bit, but I thought I'd be generous as I wasn't counting all the time. For the most part the load time is almost non-existent (a few seconds), but very rarely it seems to take an age (but still less than 25 seconds). From what I've seen so far, I'm not convinced the data packs are really worth installing, especially considering their memory size.
@Operative Lorinthia. That's where I worked out how to use her, cause I was forced to. She stayed on my team for the rest of that run. (Well, nearly, I've yet to actually finish the game. I got to Dickson , then got stuck again. I was level 76, he was level 80.) I could finish it, and I should really, but I don't want to grind four levels... I'm just too busy...
A puzzle solved is its own reward.
My Nintendo: TheXReturns | Nintendo Network ID: TheXReturns
Just about to start playing, got the fantastically epic title screen up and I'm grinning like a kid on Xmas morning.Just thought I'd check in here before I press start.
nvm. You have to search the party members out yourself. I've barely explored the city, and the party members don't seem to appear on the map, so they were difficult to find.
As for my game at the moment, it isn't going smoothly - Ultimately, I want my character to be able to use a sniper rifle, and I've had a bit of an explore. I spent quite a bit of time trying to sneak by some aggressive obscenely high level dinos to pick up a comm device, but they'd always detect me, so I'd have to sprint off, watching my teammates fall one by one, until they finally pummel me from 500 meters away with, presumably, a headbutt attack, Just like in the first game.
So there will be grinding as I set up my arts and equipment.
