Topic: Will DS and 3DS games on Wii U become a reality?

Since the DS and 3DS acts similar to Wii U having 2 screens, what would it be like to play DS games on Wii U? Cause when U think about it DS is like a smaller version of Wii U. Which would make it easier cause Wii U has two screens as well, but bigger and better. It will enhance gameplay.

1 thing that comes straight through my mind is Pokemon! Using the Gamepad screen to oder what move the Pokemon should use. While on the wide TV screen, you could play and watch. LIKE THIS:

Advance Wars would also work perfectly, setting defenses and touch based maps. Then watching you're battles on Wide-Screen.

Lastly, Kid Icarus Uprising would fit extremely well, since the Wii U has more controls and buttons it won't suffer from bad controls or hand cramps like the 3DS one did.

Again powers and inventory on Gamepad, dual analog for aiming and shooting. Wide screen for looking up and down.

What are some of the DS/3DS games you think would also fit well on the Wii U? Do U think its an idea Nintendo should look at more in the near future? Would it be something you like to see? What would be the potential problems of this compatibility?

I really doubt we'll have any games from the DS or 3DS on the Wii U, but certainly I could see potential for sequels or Wii U games using the same ideas that DS and 3DS games have used. Like you mentioned, Pokemon menus or Kid Icarus aiming.

I think it's possible. It may or may not happen. Some DS games use the Sleep Mode feature that the Wii U cannot replicate (NSMB with Mario's Cheerful "It's-a me! Mario!" and Phantom Hourglass's image-transfer puzzle.) However, I can see the dual screen attracting either a mode where DS, DSi, adn 3DS games can be emulated or popular DS/3DS games porting to the Wii U.

I think Iwata's thinking about something like this...

Personally, I'd love to see Kid Icarus U.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I'd also love to see Kid Icarus U. And any sequel to X-Scape whether on 3DS or Wii U (although the former works better).

Direct ports? On a modern TV, DS games = ugly as hell. 3DS games may look a bit better, but the polygon count is around GC/PS2 era, so it'll still look somewhat outdated.

Remakes and legitimate sequels are different. I'd love to see many DS games get sequels.

Maybe they can make it so the Wii U can stream DS and 3DS games right from the 3DS itself, then you can use the U-Pad to select the screen that appears on the TV screen (as well as an option for both screens at the same time).

I wouldn't mind seeing Mario Kart 7 on a TV screen.

There are a few games that I wouldn't mind borrowing ideas from DS/3DS versions. I wouldn't mind seeing a new Mario Kart on the Wii U that allowed me to see what's behind me on the tablet, I wouldn't mind seeing a Zelda that played as well as OoT3D, I wouldn't mind seeing something like Professor Layton appear on the Wii U. Those are things I would happily see.

What I'm not that interested in are DS/3DS ports. In particular I don't understand why Kid Icarus would be the first thing you think of when you see the Wii U Gamepad. I'll happily be the first to defend the controls of Kid Icarus Uprising but, if anything, I'd like to see a Kid Icarus game that you could play with the WiiMote + Nunchuck before they did touch screen controls again. Pokemon? Give me a 3DS version of Pokemon that finally moves away from sprites for Pokemon first. They should do that before they even consider doing something with the Wii U.

I understand how you don't want ports. I agree with you on that. It sucks how a lot of major releases on the 3DS have been ports or remakes.

But as for Kid Icarus, it's not touch screen controls we're looking for. We're looking for dual stick play.

id like to see something like this happen as id probably buy and/or play it on the big screen mostly, which is why i bought the wii version of that final fantasy game i forgot what it was called again instead of the ds version

it was more appealing to say the least

I think it could work well with certain games. Some games would not work with at all, such as games that use the DS sideways or something like that.

I could see some of Nintendo's games come to the Wii U VC. Such as Starfox Command, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, Mario vs. DK, etc. But a very limited VC, such as the N64's VC on Wii. It would give a new audience for the old DS games.

Ew no Wiimote and nunchuck is infinitely superior. Dual stick means aiming takes time, wiimote is instant. Play the Wii game Sin and Punishment... it's basically what a Kid Icarus in the style of Uprising would be, if it were on a console.

Wasn't my point at all. I was saying that ports can be good when there is something new you can get out of it. The argument here is that (3)DS games should be ported to the Wii U because it would offer the same experience. I'm all for taking ideas that worked on (3)DS versions of these games to the Wii U (Mario Kart, Zelda) or bringing sequels to games created for the (3)DS to the Wii U (Layton). I'm not a fan of ports if the reason to do it is "it'll be the same"

I'm all for more Kid Icarus especially if it uses more traditional controls. My complaint was the idea that the Wii U GamePad is what suddenly makes it possible. I was one of the people saying that Kid Icarus should have been a Wii title when it was announced.... and from what I remember it actually started out that way....

Duel stick controls for Kid Icarus would drive me crazy, absolutely impossible for it to work well.
Pointer controls are possible but there might be issues with quickly spinning the camera around in the ground sections... The touch screen controls are definitely the best option for it, and it works so well on the 3DS so I don't see any reason to do it any other way.

More on topic... I guess it could be sort of possible for them do make a DS/3DS emulator for the Wii U kind of like the GBA one for the Gamecube, but there'd be issues with some features (such as AR) so I'm not sure how they'd make that work...
In the end though, a 3DS is perfect for playing 3DS games so having 3DS games on the Wii U at all is pretty unnecessary and I doubt they'll want to waste their time developing that kind of thing (at least I hope not).
I'll use my 3DS to play 3DS games and my Wii U to play Wii U games.

My brain just died here, because the logic your using is like the logic that you would be a good pro wrestler since your a good arm wrestler.

I used to travel the stars, then I discovered Earth, and these incredibly addicting things called 'Video Games.'

Ports? No. Sequel concepts? Yes. Original ideas? Even better.

Not a "Drag-and-Drop" port. A port that ups the graphics, but keeps the game intact the same way it was when it was on the 3DS/DS screen. Batman Arkham City is a port, but it has "better" graphics and new features. Same thing goes for Mass Effect 3 and the other Wii U ports.

Nobody is saying, or at least I'm not, that ports are always a bad thing. The problem is that it's hard to see what would be new and interesting about playing these (3)DS games people are talking about again on the Wii U.

The appeal of the SNES ports on GBA was the fact that we could play SNES games on a portable. The appeal of the N64 ports on the 3DS was the fact that we could revisit those worlds with better controls and stereoscopic 3D. The appeal of the New Play Control series were the new controls on the Wii. The appeal of the 360/PS3 ports on the Wii U is the fact that they're "HD gen" games on a Nintendo console and the touch controls might add something new.

When people in this thread say they want to see Kid Icarus Uprising on the Wii U I think..... why? What would be new about it? For improved visuals? When the same people go on to say they want to see DS games on a Wii U VC I wonder even more because then you wouldn't even get the improved visuals. Why would I want that? It doesn't make sense.

Why did people like the Game Boy Player for the Gamecube or Super Game Boy for the SNES? Or the Pokemon Stadium Game Boy Tower mode thing where you could speed up the games as you play them on the TV?

People like seeing their favourite handheld games on a home console. Not to mention, you can use a capture card and stuff to capture TV screen images and videos, but not Game Boy, DS or 3DS videos and screens. If you got to play them on a home console, the quality of Youtube footage might be much higher...

If they were scaled right so games wouldn't look horrible, I would definitely be interested in something like a 3/DS player through the Wii U.
