Topic: Wii U Pro Controller VS. Gamecube Controller - Which should I get?

I don't own either but I was looking at maybe getting one or the other. I want the GC controller because everyone says it's great for SSB, but I don't want to buy that controller if it's only going to be usable in that one game on Wii U. What are your opinions? I have several games that could use the pro controller, but I don't currently have any gamecube games.

From the sounds of it I would suggest a Pro Controller

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

If you've never played Smash Bros. with a GameCube controller, then get a Pro controller.

For what it's worth in your situation, it simply isn't worth it to buy a GC controller. We're expecting controller support outside of Smash Bros. including all VC games and the rumored GC VC, along with some Wii U games and a firmware update to allow Wii Mode to use it as well. None of this is official or announced, though. Until we hear more information, the purpose of the GC controller is solely to play Smash Bros.

If you're not that into Super Smash Bros., get the Pro controller. The GCN controller is the best ever made in my opinion, but you won't use that often. So far, Nintendo has not clarified on other Wii U games to use it. Plus, the Pro is really good too, it's wireless, has a great battery life and it's compatible with a ton of Wii U games.
I will get the GCN controller because in addition to the Wii U, I have a GCN-compatible Wii and some GameCube games. So, I'm going to replace one of my old and worn out controllers with it.

So I won't be at a disadvantage playing smash on a pro controller? Although, I suppose it would be better to be able to use the same button layout as the 3DS version (I intend to get both). I'd just be really annoyed if I bought a pro controller and then further down the line Nintendo announce gamecube games on virtual console along with GC controller support in Wii mode, as I still have several games from Wii that could use it (Brawl, MKWii and some VC games).

Again, I'm only recommending the Pro Controller because of what we know now, not what might happen in the future. It's entirely your choice and what you consider important is critical to that decision as well.

The controls are customisable and the pro controller is possibly my favourite and most ergonomic, light and comfortable controller ever created. Its battery life puts the wavebird to shame and wavebirds were legendary. I don't think I could go back to a wired GC controller. .

The pro controller will probably be compatible to more than the GC controller, so I'd pick the pro.

I'd only get the GameCube controller if you are a competitive Smash player.
The Wii U Pro controller is better and more convenient in almost every other case.

That's just me though.

I wouldn't even worry about GCN controllers with Smash Bros. I went to the Smash Fest, and it works fine. Playing Smash Bros. with the GCN controller is just a preference, really.

For me I'll be using the GCN controller for Smash (the game is a perfect fit for it) but seeing as you want a controller that will function with most software go with the Pro controller.

Thanks for all your advice, but I've gone against it XD because there was a pre-order offer at shop-to where you get smash bros for Wii U and a gamecube controller for £52.85. Considering the game will probably be around £40 anyway, even when factoring in the cost of buying the adapter it is cheaper than buying a pro controller
