After the Wii U? A controller peripheral for Apple after Apple acquires Nintendo.
[/div]
Hah, I was actually thinking about how this should happen the other day
I think they'd both benefit a great deal.
[/div]
How do you think Nintendo would benefit?
What company would not benefit from Apple's resources and brand name?
Just selling virtual classics on the Apple market would bring in a fortune. Throw in the fact Nintendo is making a tablet for their console and they are trying to improve their online infrastructure (both things Apple has a bit more experience with) and there's no way they wouldn't benefit.
Then Apple benefits by pushing their platforms for serious gaming by using Nintendo platforms, which is something they have been trying as well. Does anyone want an Apple TV on its own? Not really.. put similar technology inside a Nintendo console and BAM.
They both have things the other wants. The situation is just too complicated for this to ever happen. Anytime soon, anyway.
@AlexSays Yeah, Alex, you've got a point. Nintendo is a long running company with deep roots and traditions. Now that I think of it, I don't know if it's got anything to do with being profitable, but I can't see Nintendo selling out anytime soon. I think the big honchos are more concerned about honor and are too stubborn to sell themselves and rather go down in glory.
Man, I don't know. But you really got a point about such a co-operation bringing fortunes to both parties.

Why? Because Nintendo is Japanese? "Going down in glory" is also hugely unethical and usually illegal in business.
And it's not like old Japanese companies don't get acquired. Panasonic acquired Sanyo a few years back. Sanyo has been around for a hundred or so years.
Business people are business people. They will act in the best interest of their shareholders. If Apple wanders up to Nintendo and offers the $40 billion or so it would take to acquire 51 per cent of Nintendo, Nintendo will take it, I would bet it.

Nintendo suffers from a resourcing problem. It's the smallest of the companies involved in gaming hardware, and the pressure is starting to slow - Nintendo is struggling to keep up with the newer technology developments in the gaming space - the market is heading towards online services and multi-purpose consoles, and Nintendo is not traditionally capable there. The costs to get up to speed are substantial.
If Nintendo had access to Apple's resources and infrastructure then we would see Nintendo able to realise its potential without restraints.
Thanks for your worthwhile contribution LollipopChoSaw. Maybe I reacted more out of sentimentality than facts. I just shudder over the thought of mega corporations reaching their claws to everything and taking my precious Nintendo and turning it into a prostitute. Well yeah, that's a bit naiive I guess. Sigh I have these unrealistic images of Nintendo still being a small family company, LoL. Though they are small.

That is true and I've been seeing signs of Nintendo's struggle over the last console generations. Nintendo just seems unable to deliver on the same level than it's competitors. They work magic on things they're used to doing well, but when they have tried to perform outside their field it's usually more than unsatisfactory. I mean, who uses Wii's photo channel? Or the weather and news services? Not to mention the internet channel? I sometimes use 3DS's browser, but rarely take pictures with it's cameras or use it as a music player. I buy Nintendo for gaming, 'cause that's what they are good at. But it seems the market wants more, more content on one purchase, more features in one product.
For those who think this is off-topic, we are still talking about Nintendo's future after the Wii U. I can't see Nintendo selling themselves atleast before trying with Wii U.
After wii u I expect nintendo will go 3rd party and Miyamoto will try to reverse its decline by going mature and taking Mario to the FPS genre while Reggie will probably end up as a travelling story telling hobo.
Wouldn't apple need to make a clam shell system and 3D system first before they "acquire" Nintendo if they want sales they'd have to copy everything Nintendos done in the past so they can sell them on the app store

Said it before and will say it again. The day Apple buys out Nintendo and we start to see iMario stuff is likely the day I turn in my video game player's card. If Ninty joined forces with Sony, that I could live with.
On topic, I'd love the next gen console/handheld to be the Ultra NES and Game Boy Supreme. I wanna see the NES & GB brands return.
Let's attack aggressively, kupo! :D

I agree, Apple getting near my Nintendo makes me shudder.

Not gonna happen as long as Nintendo does as well as they do. They have a very profitable business, even though they are not perceived as the leading company.
What? That has nothing to do with anything.
Profitable companies are purchased all the time. That's usually why they are purchased, because they are successful and larger companies can make them more successful.
Failing companies are the ones that don't get purchased often, unless to be broken down. Your logic is completely backwards.
I think Nintendo is an exception in this case. Nintendo would never sell out and even if they did it would ONLY be if it was their only way to succeed. Also, if Nintendo were dying, any company would LOVE to grab them for the rights to all their games.

Iwata has said multiple times that if they were to drop out of the console race that they would not become a third party and would simply stop making their games.
Miyamoto was one of the producers of Eternal Darkness, a mature title.
Yoshi's Safari is a Mario FPS.
I'm sure Reggie is smart and hasn't spent all his money. If Nintendo goes down, he's just gonna get himself a nice place and live the rest of his life there. Although I'm sure Reggie will sure have some stories as an old man.
