Well its pretty obvious that EAD Tokyo wants to give Rosalina a even bigger push. Hell the orginal plan for Galaxy 2 was to take it in and even more story based direction but that got pushed out the door by Miyamoto in favor of just awesome gameplay. The next interation was 3D Land which was a back to basic reinvention of the Mario formula, and now we have 3D world. I wouldn't be surprised if the next game is more like the first Galaxy game just with more playable characters

Rosealina is EAD's baby so of course they probably went to get her in the game. Its similar to how Sakuari has an Infinty for Kirby dudes. .

Hyrule Warriors - Completely unexpected & BA looking. I don't even have a Wii U, but was giddy with excitement while watching it.

Kirby Triple Deluxe - Looking insanely fun. I hope it's released sometime soon, as this would be a great birthday game (which is in Feb).

Bravely Default - Like KTD, this is looking good, and is a contender for my birthday game.

Yoshi's New Island - I've never been all that into the Yoshi's Island series, so this really didn't excite me, but it's good to see 3DS is still going strong.

Chibi Robo: Photo Finders - Same as above.

Pokémon Bank - Don't have X or Y, so this doesn't matter to me.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - Again, I don't have a Wii U, but this is looking like it'll continue to offer the enjoyable intense platforming the series is known for.

Sonic LW DLC, WSC Golf, NES Remix, & Dr. Luigi - Small releases like these are a great way to keep people interested while they're waiting for the big hitters, and I hope they keep this up, because some of these look really cool.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U - Playable Rosalina looks sweet, and I continue to be excited for this.

Mario Kart 8 - Man, this is looking awesome, and I hope all you Wii U owners out there enjoy it.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

I think Chibi-Robo looks more interesting than Yoshi's New Island, actually. Anything Wii U is more interesting to me than 3DS. 3DS is a good system. but I just find myself always playing home consoles more. The most interesting game on 3DS, IMO, is SSB., and that's something I'm getting on both systems.

Here are my thoughts of the direct. I was amazed by the Hyrule Warriors trailer. Looks impressive and its definitely one of the few crossovers Nintendo has been doing the other being Mario & Sonic. I'm excited for triple deluxe and I'm looking forward to that one. Tropical Freeze is also another game I'm looking forward to as well. I think Yoshi's new Island is fine and I'll try that out eventually. I wasn't that excited for DR.Luigi and golf but I am excited that I can get clebi even with the trial although I still don't have Y yet. But I was amazed at Nes Remix and Kart 8 looks really impressive. But as soon as I saw Lost World's DLC, I was like WHAT?!? WHAT?!? WHAT??!?! Seriously Nintendo Make a crossover of Mario AND Sonic!!!!! And the bravely default looks really good too.

Also was a bit happy that Nintendo thanked us all us Nintendo fans.

Why? This seems to be working for just about everyone in the industry.

Got to agree with you somewhat. It's true that people always buy Mario, Link, and Samus games, but once people have those games, they're gonna buy or want something else.

That's why 3rd parties got to step up and get their games on Wii U. I can't for the life of me, think of anything besides shooter games coming out for other systems, so getting away from that mentality is the first step. Killzone, CoD: Ghosts, and BF4 launhing on one day is an effing disaster, if you ask me. Then after that, there's Titanfall and Destiny...

We're looking at Nintendo Direct(well, I am) and thinking that all there is is Nintendo games. I personally really want more 3rd party games, but if it's just more FPS, then things aren't going to go over very well, IMO. EA or Activision got o get out a skakeboarding game, a GOOD console version of Spore should happen, maybe something Sims from EA, get Mirror's Edge onto Wii U, Kingdom Hearts, etc. I like Nintendo games. I really do, but 3rd parties NEED to get games onto Wii U, because I agree that there's only so much Mario that people can handle before they start to want more games.

That's why I'm saying that 3rd parties need to get their games on Wii U, but not necessarily anything they just released on Xbox One or PS4. I think everyone just needs to take a break from all that stuff and start asking for more accessible games that Wii U owners actually want.

EDIT: I honestly can't even keep up with all the games Nintendo has in store for it's install base. I don't care for some things, like the NES Remix or Dr. Luigi. Nintendo's just trying to put everything possible on the store so that there's something someone will want.

Point being that as much as we do see Micosoft and Sony lean on the Halo's, Uncharteds, Fable's and Infamous games, we also see stuff like D4 or hohokum. But than we get into the argument of whether nintendo should do new IP or cover them with existing ones like they did with Kirby's epic Yarn.

I think Nintendo has been able to make a decent mix of IP with the Wii U making it a combination of the Wii and Gamecube's software catalouge.

This year we got a new IP, sequels to established franchises, and Nintendo brought back an Older Franchise. All in All this has been a good year for the Wii U. Now I just need to decide to get it or a Vita next month.

I don't know about the "Nintendo not doing new ideas" thing. About half of that Nintendo Direct was really weird stuffs. Yoshi's Island DLC for Sonic, NES Remix, Zelda x Dynasty Warriors. Those were all weird ideas. Even some of the easy sequel stuffs took a bit of a weird approach. Dr Luigi instead of Dr Mario, Cranky Kong in DKC, Smash Bros and Rhythm style minigames in Kirby. Even that stuff you couldn't have predicted.

If they need to play it safe with their big budget titles that makes sense. However they're still being very creative in the smaller price brackets. Probably more creative than they've ever been. When was the last time we saw something like NES remix? That's almost on-par with the sort of stuff they were doing back on the SNES with games like Tetris vs Dr Mario.

Unfortunately, many fans tend to conveniently ignore the smaller games. They claim that Nintendo needs to make new franchises when franchises are made.

I don't think third parties will step which is why were seeing these collaboration games or Nintendo funding games from other Japanese third parties. There's no reason for 3rd party games to skip Wii U, though. Showing me a ton of VC and Wii U exclusive games isn't going to chane my mind. My point was that games like Tony Hawk/Skate, Mirror's Edge, maybe Crash Bandicoot, RockStar games, etc. shouldn't be skipping Wii U. The whole entire reason that people are citing the most for poor Wii U sales are lack of 3rd party games.

How the hell are things supposed to improve if no one will release games on a respectable install base? Wii U probably has like 5 million systems out there, now, while Xbox One and PS4 have like 2.5 million each. If 3rd party companies really cared about sales, they'd target Wii U, because it has twice as many owners out there. It doesn't matter whether gathering those numbers took a year or not. All that matters is what the count is now.

Any 3rd party company that wants to make a poor excuse to not support the Wii U says more about 3rd parties than Nintendo. Wii U can support these games, and if 3rd parties are biased or idiots, then Wii U probably will suffer. My point is that 3rd parties can potentially kill the Wii U by not supporting it, and that not how things have to be.

It would be like if one of your friends got mortally wounded, because of you. You could easily save them from dying, but you just leave them behind to die. They died because of you.

So you have a choice. Let things die, or let things live.

I also just want to add that people want new software from basically every angle. Look at AC4, Watch_Dogs, BF4, CoD, etc. games on 7th AND 8th gen consoles.

I don't care about games that technically could have been on 7th gen. If 3rd parties want to be a serious force, they need to leave 7th gen behind, That's why Wii U has suffered, as well. Everyone buying an 8th gen system doesn't want to play games that could have been done on Xbox 360 or PS3. That's exactly what's happening now, for the most part. You can talk all you want about how Xbox One and PS4 are "superior" hardware wise, but I don't see anything in tems software really giving that much of a crap about.

The only reason why Wii U gets the pass is because 3rd parties didn't even have 8th gen games ready. They still don't. BF4 is a mess on all platforms, so why the hell should we care? Once 7th gen is completely gone, every new console will benefit. Everyone that bought a PS4, Xbox One, or Wii U didn't buy one of said systems to play AC4, Ghosts, BF4, 2K 2014, etc. Those games are still possible on system that millions of people own. From my perspective, all the criticism that hit Wii U in the past year, is just as relevant today on other platforms, and this still includes the Wii U.

The only thing Wii U is missing, that might matter, is a better OS. Better Miiverse, better friend options, maybe multimedia, etc. It's got more games than Xbox One and PS4, now, so everyone needs to hang up their "doom" coats and let this situation ride itself out, instead of assuming bizarre BS that common sense can repeatedly prove wrong. This includes math.

Same (except on Smash.) I think part of it for me is that the 3DS is quite low-res and a weaker device, also with the textures of many games lacking due to the costly memory card format. Wii U is higher res and further away with a cheap optical format and higher price tag per gsme that doesn't necessitate conservative game sizes and can be a bigger cash cow per unit. The system is fantastic but I find myself not playing as often and not beating games like Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Fire Emblem: Awakening, which I would on consoles. don't get me wrong, I beat most games and I love the systems, but I think with an HD era console there's just something a bit more. Smash will have unique stages and stuff but I'm sticking with my champ, Wii U.

Alao, the OG models like mine are not particularly comfortable and having even medium-sized hands and coming from the "phat" DS took some getting used to.

I think putting Smash on 3DS is a short-sighted move with Nintendo desparate for Wii U sales as it is and the 3DS getting insane first-party support

3DS fully supports any SD card with a majority of software, though, so the memory format statement that you just said about the 3DS literally doesn't make sense. If people are downloading games on ANY console off of said system's online store, that ultimately matters more than buying a physical version of the same game, as far as the company goes. That's not why people buy digital versions of stuff, though.

I have a 3DS XL with a 32GB(class 10, 20mb/s) SD card that I got when they came out. I wouldn't have it any other way. As far as the Wii U goes, you're right about the optical discs being easier than a MORE proprietary memory(the discs are still proprietary, but not as much compared to the game cards). I was just pointing out that games can be purchased and stored on your SD card instead. This is why I don't get why the hell Apple is doing by not having an SD card slot. Not to mention that their app store has gradually built up more shovel ware than the Wii ever did, in the digital format, to boot.

Anyway... I just prefer the home theater take on video gaming. A handheld console is basically never going to be able to do that. I really like the 3DS' 3D capability. It has some cool features like streetpass/spotpass, but software and hardware wise, I'd choose Wii U over the 3DS anyday, even with the less software it has on the eShop. As far as I can tell, the only thing Wii U really lacks in comparison to the 3DS is more eShop games. VC is/will be identical on both systems for the most part, but smaller games like Pushmo haven't absolutely taken over the Wii U eShop like they have the 3DS eShop.

3DS games aren't just made for digital distribution. I'm a bit of a physical copy freak, I've gotta physically own it. Games have to be made to fit the 2-16 GB IIRC sizes. 4 GB and above are more costly, I'm on mobile but if you google that was Capcom's reasoning for trying to sell Resident Evil: Revelations for $50 instead of $40. There's also a giant wait list for third party pubs according to an XSEED employee Q&A. Storage limitations still affect you as a SD card user.

JetForceSetGrind

@SCAR392
Well technically the 3DS is still limited by cartridge sizes but you are right more generally. I don't think it's that much of a limit. 3DS games are running on a small screen at what is effectively 1/3rd of standard def. The 4GB (maybe 8GB?) "limit" on 3DS in terms of textures is kinda like having an 80GB "limit" on a HD machine. Not really much of a limit at all.

Although on the other hand we can be pretty sure that Smash Bros on 3DS is going to be significantly less "pretty" than the Wii U version. The console version is always going to be the better one if you don't care for portability. So I think you've kinda missed the actual point @WhereEaglesDare was trying to make.

edit: actually what I'm trying to say is that titles aren't unlimited in terms of size. If someone wants to make a big title it has to be retail to recover their costs and if so they have to have that "limit". There's also the fact that the 3DS only comes with a small SD card. Devs don't want to restrict their sales like that. That said in practice it's not really much of a limit because the 3DS is a sub standard def portable console, in terms of texture resolution it effectively outputs 20x less pixels on the screen than the Wii U.
