We know the Wii U didn't do very well to begin with and don't get me wrong, the games are awesome but the hardware and the console itself isn't and it also being underpowered when compared to the Xbox One and the Ps4 which is about to be stepped on by the Pc.
I think Nintendo has a great opportunity to dominate again like in the days before the Wii when it appealed more to a hardcore gaming audience rather than the casuals and the kids.
Nintendo needs to go all out Nintendo power style to dominate once again whether it's it's bringing out a 4k capable console running games at 240fps then i'm all in, take my money and make the online system work like the Ps4 and the Xbox One.

1. 240 fps is pointless. I'm pretty sure 60fps hits the upper bound of what our eyes can visually see.
2. Creating a console for hardcore gamers is stupid, and it's never been done successfully before. Nearly every console in history has appealed to some sort of mass market.
3. My ideal console would be competitively powerful, with a main controller being a "next-gen" Wii Remote with haptic feedback to improve the immersive experience, and an improved nunchuck that isn't broken.
4. VR/Headtracking can be there but it should be fully optional. The reason for this is that requiring your players to wear something on their heads won't be received completely positively.

Actually 60fps isn't the "upper bound" of what the eye can see. You can see above it but the problem is that the vast, vast majority of displays are limited to 60Hz so there's little point aiming higher. 30fps is the second target because it divides nicely into 60fps (jitter is very noticeable) and isn't so low that it becomes distracting (20fps isn't ideal, 15fps with dips is bordering on unplayable). That said 240fps? That's just a waste of time because nobody will be able to display it anyway.
On the spatial resolution side of things 4K isn't going to happen with any console even if they wanted to anytime soon. Just to put it in perspective a single GTX 980 costs about $900 and is the most powerful single card solution on the market. With max settings at 4K but with no AA you'll average around 30fps in most current gen games. We're talking about a PC which is on paper has around three times the GPU performance at around four times the cost of the XBOne or PS4. So to hit a 60fps target at 4K in theory you'd need 6x the performance. But this would be with games built for a platform after the PS4 not games built for the 360. So lets bump it up to 8x.
If we assume something like Moore's Law holds (doubling every two years) and we want 8x performance of the PS4 in a PS4 like box? 8 = 2 ^3, 3 x 2 = 6. It'll be six years after the PS4 launch before they can do the same thing with enough horsepower for 4K at 60fps. So 2019. But two things to note. I doubt Nintendo will aim for that level of horsepower given their style of game and market strategies. I'm not sure that any of the consoles this generation will last a full cycle if 4K keeps dropping in price like it is.

This video is helpful.
Though I don't understand why you bumped it to 8x.

the Wii U does appeal to hardcore gamers... do hardcore gamers play war sim after war sim? suckered into paying $100 every six months for the same game? boring car simulators and killing simulators? or do they play fun challenging games.. where you have to use your brain and coordination? have a think about it..

Hardcore gamers play PC. As much as I love my WiiU and 3ds, they certainly aren't "Hardcore" and I'm glad of this.

4K, 240 fps?! If the next generation plays something like 1600p and 60 fps we'll be lucky. Don't forget most devs nowadays always sacrifice frame rates and resolution in order to get more impressive graphics.
Adding insult to injury, Moore's Law stopped holding years ago.
It has slowed, it hasn't stopped. It's still a decent yardstick and it has always runs at a different rate depending on what piece of hardware we're talking about. Although again, to add insult to injury the race has recently been for more power efficient chips rather than more powerful ones. Because Apple and Samsung.
Though I don't understand why you bumped it to 8x.
Because we're not going to be running games built for the 360 in six years time. Just like how we're not running games built for the original XBox now. There'll be more than just a resolution bump, they'll be doing other things that hit performance and display a better image.

''hardcore gamers'' are not limited to one system. there are millions of hardcore nintendo gamers. why do you think ninty are still so massive?
I see Nintendo going more mainstream with their next console. x86 arhitecture, unified wide IO DDR4 and most likely AMD APU (probably around 2.5 TFLOPS, somewhat more powerful than PS4). If their next gen offering comes out in 2017. they'll probably turn to something more powerful than current gen consoles, but I doubt that they'll produce something that could truly be called next gen (5+ TFLOPS machine to match eventual PS5 and Xbox Two). The main "problem" (if you want to call it like that) is the asymmetric release of Nintendo's home console in comparison to PS4/XO, so you get somewhat more powerful product than current gen, but it gets outperformed by the eventual next gen release in year or two.
Case in point:
Wii was more powerful than PS2/Xbox but less than PS3/X360.
WiiU is more powerful than PS3/X360, but less than PS4/XO.
Now, if Nintendo was the type of company that has no problem losing money on hardware, they could pull off something more powerful, but AFAIK, Nintendo is not known to take such risks.
