Topic: Most valuable Wii U games?

I mentioned in another thread that I have been buying a bunch of Wii U games since the Switch reveal. I expect prices will only increase in the future for most games, so I have been trying to fill the holes in my collection while games are still rather easily obtainable.

With that said, what are the rarest/most valuable Wii U games currently?

I wouldn't worry about prices going up for Wii U games anytime soon. There's going to be a fairly large increase in supply over the next year or so as people start selling off their collections. Purely because the Switch is going to be out and people are going to start wondering why they still need the Wii U.

As for which games will be hard to obtain physical copies of down the road? That's pretty hard to guess. And something that I wouldn't encourage people to speculate about either. Basically if you want a collection of Wii U games? Go nuts, there will be plenty of options. They'll all be pretty cheap. If you want to know which ones to go for first? Get the ones you're most interested in.

I'd say the Bayonetta 2 edition that includes Bayo 1 on disc. They did a reprint with only Bayo 2 included, since the games popularity spiked after Smash.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

The physical copy of Wii Sports seems to command a premium.

Wii Sports Resort does seem to be rather pricey. Recently decided to download golf for $10 since I don't want to pay $40-$50 just for a used copy.

I'm shocked no one has said Shovel Knight.

I don't think there's any true "valuable" WiiU game out there, at least in Europe. There's a few games that are expensive, of course, like the Limited Edition of Fatal Frame/Project Zero, whatever it is called, the very early Limited Edition of Bayonetta 2 (the one that came with a booklet of concept art) and the first day Limited Edition of Rodea the Sky Soldier. The thing that makes the whole situation unpredictable is that you can find many copies of these on ebay, but that means nothing because they have been there and overpriced from release day.
You can still get Shovel Knight or Wii Sports Club on Amazon for their original price over here. Same with Need for Speed WiiU, which is easy to find but still sits at its original release price. The only one I can think of it's going to be tougher to find with time is probably the physical release of Teslagrad, which I've always seen sold for €40 to €50, but honestly I don't see the prices ever going up nor down for this one. WiiU games will hardly be valuable for at least a decade, and who knows what will happen next. I honestly expect prices will only go down in the future (except for ebay, where they'll be stationary for the next century).

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

Interesting choice of console to attempt finding valuable games for the future.

You'd have the same amount of luck if you threw a dart at a board full of company names and decided to invest in one.

I still personally think that the Wii U as a whole will be considered a collectors console, along with a lot of its games too, though we are talking 10 plus years here.

Games I think that will be expensive/collectible here in the UK are Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Super Luigi U, Bayonetta 2, Rodea The Sky Soldier, Need For Speed U, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, Tekken Tag, WindWaker, Twilight Princess and Breath Of The Wild.

These are just games that I think or have seen currently will retain quite a high price a decade from now. Honestly, in 10-20 years time I think all Wii U games will still sell at high prices on ebay, whether they are Nintendo IP games or even third party.

In the US, I would say that the Bayonetta 2 Disc, the Majesco releases, Hello Kitty Kruisers, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and possibly Angry Birds Trilogy will be difficult to find in the future.

Paper Mario Color Splash. It came out only a few months prior to end of Wii U's lifespan.

Devil's Third commanded crazy prices at the height of its popularity due to its low print run. It's still around $50 or so, which isn't bad considering they don't even support the multiplayer anymore.

They won't. If the Switch was backward compatible demand would be higher and they would be rarer but it isn't so Wii U games will never be expensive or hard to find as the demand isn't there for them and never really has been.

lol. That's why i laugh at collectors of modern systems. They buy games they will never play in the hope they will be rare but almost always they never are rare even 15-20 years from now. They would need a seriously low print run in this age to ever get to that. And only limited editions do that and even then most limited editions are not rare at all. The internet and eBay make everything so easy to find.

Collecting as a hobby is good but collecting stuff you don't like in the hopes it will be rare in the future is just stupid.

Due to the unqiue hardware it's almost impossible to emulate Wii U games.

It'll be a console for collector's of unique games that can't be emulated easily, instead of collector's of rare games. It'll probably be a mix of both, like with the SEGA Saturn.

Certain games can't just be ported to any other device (not without losing their main draw). That includes:
Nintendo Land
Project Zero
Game & Wario
The Wonderful 101
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Starfox Zero
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
Affordable Space Adventures
B3 Game Expo For Bees

Plenty of other Wii U games have great features that go extinct in the future/on other game devices (and already are in more recent iterations): Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Xenoblade, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Hyrule Warriors, ZombiU, Rayman Legends, LEGO City Undercover, Monster Hunter, the Batmans, Assassin's Creeds, Deus Ex, Need for Speed, and other 3rd party games that put some effort to add nice practical Wii U features... Many of those already received a sequel or a degeneremake that made the loss evident.
