Topic: Missed Chance: Nintendo Isn't At Tokyo Game Show

Tokyo Game Show is freaking huge in Japan. Even Sony's incredibly western PS4 just announced some awesome Japanese games coming to the console like Persona 5 and a new Dragon Quest game.
But where is Nintendo?!?!?

I mean... seriously!? This was the perfect window to show Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem for Wii U! This was the perfect window to show Pokken Fighters with a Wii U tease! This was the perfect window to localize some fan demanded Japanese exclusive 3DS games! The list runs on!

I'm not really upset or anything but I'm just disappointed that Nintendo didn't see this as a chance to fight for Japan AND JRPG lovers in their fanbase.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

As I recall Nintendo has never been a big pressence at The Tokoyo Game Show if at all, so this is nothing new. There is no need for Pokken Fighters with a WiiU tease, it has been all but confirmed for WiiU, besides the announceme t was a few days ago, doing it again now would be overkill and SMTxFE is still being worked on maybe it's just not in a showable state. At E3 the devs confirmed it was moving along nicely.

Everything can change, but I'm never changing who I am

I'm pretty sure Nintendo hasn't attended TGS since the early 90's, It's not really that shocking.

How exactly do you define "huge"?
I've attended TGS 2012 and while it was nice to be there, it's really small compared to the likes of E3 or Gamescom and it's also (most of the time) not as crowded as these other two.

Sure, it'd be nice if Nintendo attended TGS, but they have never been there aside from Iwata doing a keynote, from what I remember.

Yeah, Sony just pretty much blew up TGS, a good day for the PS4 and Vita.

TGS has become quite small since the HD radio started. Gamescom and E3 both dwarf it in importance. These days the floor is mostly smartphone games with a reveal here and there.

after today Sony's presentation I'll worry about Wii U Japanese sales, so I'll do TGS if I was them

MS and Ninty a no show? Well Sony has won TGS just by showing up! It doesn't help that their conference was that damn good.

I would say this is bad (for MS it doesn't make sense even trying) but Nintendo still are (to a much lesser and close extent) in control of Japan for the time being.

"Finish your mission, prove your loyalty." - MGS3

I don't really look much into the PS4's lukewarm entry in the Japanese market......for the last 10 years or so, the Japanese seem to be more tempted by software vice the actual availability of new hardware,.......and historically they support legacy hardware for a longer period than in the west. Thus slow initial entry into the market does not spell doom.

TGS "freaking huge"? You're giving it too much credit. Also, it's been mentioned already, but Nintendo hasn't had a conference at TGS in a long time. Nintendo has their Nintendo Directs to show off their stuff.

I'm sure we will get a digital direct or some sort of announcements soon you know those things only Nintendo fans/WII U/3DS owners watch when we can be bothered because lets face it they are quite boring.... But yeah Nintendo need to get their heads out their **** and step outside their bubble and start selling their console to new customers not too current owners.

By and large I agree with other posters that while a showing of new game footage would be exciting, it simply isn't Nintendo's style to parade out their properties until a major reveal on a major stage.

Space World was kind of Nintendo's big show in Japan before they went with the Nintendo Direct format.
