It could happen, but would be a lot of money passed around to do so, so it may not happen on Wii U, but possible for NX if they sell enough consoles (they'd need enough people to purchase it and gain a profit). Other than that, Microsoft does own Rare, but don't forget that a VIVA PINATA game came out for DS and Rare did release Diddy Kong Racing for DS, so it could be possible, it would be missing some of the games. I'd love to be able to re-play Conker's Bad Fur Day (in the glory it was made for N64) with updated graphics on a nintendo console again, but until it happens, I wouldn't count on it.

Don't forget that Sony and Nintendo were together first, and Microsoft used to put nintendo down hard (in their first few years of their magazine). I could see Nintendo and Sony joining forces and make the ultimate console, but I hope and I really hope that Microsoft never becomes part of Nintendo. No offense to Microsoft (I have an original and 360), but just don't want to see nintendo with Microsoft.@Undead_terror:

This would be awesome...but I don't see it happening.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

Maybe Microsoft are doing some ground work in order to get Goldeneye. Banjo for Bond?

This is nothing more than Microsoft just playing the super cool guy. Which is great! but it'll never happen. Might as well ask em' for Halo and Gears of War. MS doesn't have a strong family-friendly lineup of franchises, and Rare Replay is probably the extent of that. They would never just give it to Nintendo.

MS releasing games on the 3DS makes sense, as they don't own a handheld, and they did it with the DS. Releasing their own first party software on a competing console just wouldn't make sense. Minecraft was a special case, considering it was already released on everything but a toaster when MS bought the franchise.

this would be terrible, i don't want to give money to microsoft through nintendo games that were originally on nintendo consoles. do you not realise how filthy this industry has become? isn't this little escapade between nintendo and microsoft and rare enough to see? minecraft for wii u should not be supported either.

@martinskrtel37: tbf this is a non-story/article/thread/thingy, because it will never happen (Minecraft is a different thing of course, perhaps you can view this as a Mojang game?). If you want to play the games on the Rare Replay, get an Xbox One to get that single game, or get a NES, SNES, N64, 360 for whichever game(s) you want. Rare Replay Wii U/NX edition will never happen.

Microsoft are in a bit of a weird situation with me, as they'll never be seen as anything other than a perfect scumbag, greedy American extreme-capitalist corporation in my eyes (all this and I owned a 360 and own a One but that's a different matter) yet they seem to be doing a pretty good job at winning the heats-and-minds of a lot of gamers after their diabolical console reveal at E3 2013. Some reason for this I can understand, others I cannot.

One of those that I cannot understand is that EXPLETIVE Phil CENSORED Spencer. I could rant about this for a while but to get back to the topic of Rare Replay, he flat-out lied when he said (in reference to Banjo's chance of being playable in Smash) that Microsoft and Nintendo have had no problems when working with Rare's IPs in the past. Well then the lack of Goldeneye 64 on Virtual Console, lack of Rare characters in the Diddy Kong Racing DS port and now this must just be accidents and coincidences eh? Good old Phil Spencer, the guy who was in no way complicit to the original Xbox One's design and features despite being there at E3 2013 more than happy to sell it and the man who single-handedly brought backwards compatibility to the system. What a champ.

But yeah rant over this isn't happening. Though I have to say I have been enjoying Conker's Bad Fur Day, Kameo, Battletoads and the Banjo game on the Rare Replay. They are great games to be sure

Oh, blah. Phil Soencer has been wonderful for the Xbox brand whether you think it's real or a facade. He's also shown no end of support for Nintendo and openly states he'd be happy to work with them. There's no need to be so cynical about the idea that Nintendo and Microsoft can AND HAVE worked together before.

As for Rare Replay, I can see Microsoft allowing it on the Wii U provided enough support is shown for the port. That, incidentally, is WHY it won't happen because the Wii U has a very small install base and the port would be more involved than your typical port, thus costing more money and requiring more guaranteed sales to justify. Rare Replay would have to pull 1st Party Nintendo numbers on the Wii U to be a justified expense. Simple as that.

A nifty calendar (Updated 9/13/15)
The UGXloggery ... really needs an update.

i doubt it would happen,
but if they could get some idea working might like them try to bring some of those N64/SNES games they work on when RARE was own by Nintendo. and bring them as VC (but, again i doubt that well happen ether.)

Meh ... I really don't care for it as I already have Rare Replay on my XOne but this sounds like good news to a lot of other people so I'm not complaining. This, however, has the potential of making Banjo in Smash a bit more likely.

@TheLastLugia: GoldenEye 007 not being rereleased is nothing to do with Phil Spencer, although it's quite funny and cute to see you hating on someone for reasons in your head rather than reality. The Bond licence would be needed for one, which would mean dealing with the people who own Bond, the studio who make the films and then whichever company owns the game licence. Then they would need to make sure Rare want to do it. All that before they even start dealing with Nintendo. Following all that there is the need to decide how they go about it, should it just be the game released? A remake? If it's a remake then why should the Xbox version be inferior (graphically or whatever) that the Wii U? Microsoft have said a couple of times how they've wanted to redo GoldenEye 007 but there is just too many hurdles and they've no idea where to begin. But hey, you just keep thinking the deal is all in place and Spencer is holding it back just to annoy you. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Speaking of Goldeneye, wasn't there a remake for the Wii that later got remade for 360/ps3?

Also, 100% MS ownership of Rare is no obstacle, actually. For MS it could be a good thing, actually, because Nintendo would have to give them money to think about it and get additional money from the sales. Minecraft got released, so why not this? And don't come out with "MS bought Mojang after they started working on U version" or something like that - bussines is bussines and they could can U version no matter the state of development or completely axe all the Sony versions, but why lose the additional income? They also not that long ago bought Havok, and if you think that only they will use it instead of making money off the license, you are gravely mistaken.

Real state of affair is that U saleswise blows, even though it's good console. If NX will do better, then you will probably see Minecraft fast and bigger possibility of rare replay releasing.

@rastamadeus: way to 100% miss the point entirely. My point was that this guy is just PR, of course the decisions aren't to do with him, hence my sarcastic congratulating of him for being responsible for backwards compatibility, which is exactly what some deluded Xbox fans believe unbelievably.

My point was also that he was/is a liar to order to increase his popularity, and you conveniently ignored that lie that he said in his response to the relationship between Nintendo, Microsoft and Rare. He said in his tweet that they've worked together in the past with 'no problems', which is of course why Banjo, Conker and others were removed from the DS port of Diddy Kong Racing, because of 'no problems.' Also why the Dokney Kong Country games and 64 were not released on the Wii Shop Channel, 'no problems.' And your entire response about Goldeneye 64, what problems are there? None of course, if you believe Phil Spencer that is.

So this entire thread is based on the assumption that your typical PR liar guy is telling the truth. Well with this evidence I'm more than content to keep on not trusting the man as far as I can throw him, and I will continue to sleep soundly, thanks for your concern

@TheLastLugia: Eh - I don't think any of us here really know how much Spencer is actually responsible for. And after reading/watching a lot about Spencer's history, it's pretty easy to see that he's an actual gamer and has had some pretty creative and cool ideas. There's a REALLY good interview about an hour long that IGN did not too long ago with three guys from Xbox's history, and Spencer was one of them. Very interesting to watch. In a way, he reminds me of what we loved about Iwata: actually played games and grew up with games (I think he was even a programmer, too).
