1. Get a better marketing team.
2. Start developing games that will interest a lot of people. It's gotta be a mature game, to get the little kiddies on board.
3. Make new versions of games like Zelda (already in the works), Metroid, Earthbound, Starfox and F-Zero, to get the adults on board.
4. Bribe the third-parties to bring their games to the Wii U.

I'm surprised no one has brought up developing a Virtual Boy 2. Or maybe we would call it the Virtual Boy U - that might actually be the best possible name as it still builds off the success of the original Virtual Boy brand but also ties back to the Wii U. (The original code name was actually VU)

Although I'm joking, I actually really enjoyed the Virtual Boy. Wario Land was an awesome platformer that very few people have ever gotten to play. But how sweet would it be to see a Virtual Reality Nintendo console that's up to snuff with the recent Oculus Rift Crystal Cove prototype or the Valve VR prototype. The possibilities...

More thoughts... I think Iwata's "new business strategy" could well refer to Wii U pricing. Since Gamecube, Nintendo have made a profit on every hardware unit sold. But in the days of the NES, in order to beat Atari, they deliberately lost money on every unit in order to make it up later on games - it was called 'lost leader'. And boy did it work.

So expect a $200 Wii U soon, lost leader might just save the Wii U yet!

It's real simple. They just need to win support of 3rd party developers. Also They need to open the flood gates on the virtual console, it's ridiculous how slowly they are releasing their back log of games. START RELEASING GAMEBOY ADVANCE, N64, and GAMECUBE GAMES PLEASE!!!!!

Current gen:

-More games that use crossplay. Also, allow eShop games purchased on one console to be played on the other for free, and anyone who owns multiple copies will be given free eShop credit.
-More and better marketing.
-More moneyhatting to third parties
-Bring back some of their more hardcore franchises like Metroid, F-Zero, and Star Fox.

Long term:

-Buy out other companies like SEGA and expand their resources
-Expand on the idea of crossplay with a Fusion style console.
-Virtual Reality

That's all I can think of right now.

Start selling Wii-U consoles inside PS4 boxes

(Sorry for the wall of text)
Short Term :
1. Virtual Console
-Put the rest of 1st party NES/SNES games on Wii U VC
-Put the rest of 1st party GB/GBC games on 3DS VC
-Start N64/MS/Genesis/Saturn/CDi/GCN/Dreamcast on Wii U VC (You heard me CDi)
-Start GBA/SNES/N64 on 3DS VC
2. Discounts (1st/3rd party games)
We all want it to happen. Most Nintendo games don't lose value. (a la the Zelda series) Maybe do flash sales on the eShop, or just for a holiday. Put Luigi's Mansion : Dark Moon for $19.99 only on Halloween. (< ex.) Also, bribe 3rd party Wii U devs to discount their games more. Assassin's Creed 3 on the Wii U eShop is still $39.99. On XBLA, it's $10 cheaper. Sonic Lost World would also need a price cut, of maybe 15-30 US dollars.
3. Online Play
Super Mario 3D World has gotten bashed for no 4-player online. Maybe release a patch for that. Super Mario 3D World Version 1.1 on the Wii U eShop would add online play. Ghost Mii's don't count that much. But then again, everyone loves yelling at their friends for picking them up and throwing them in lava, right?

Long Term :
1. Buy Rareware / Rare Ltd. or buy Rare's Golden IP's
Everyone wants Banjo Threeie on the Wii U right? Conker HD anyone? I'm sure lots of people want this in the gaming industry right now. Viva Pinata would also be Nintendo's, even though they have Animal Crossing. We could also see DK64 on the Wii/Wii U VC and the DKC Trilogy back. Think of the possibilities. But, Rare is not how it used to be. Their Micro$oft's "Kinect Hogs," as I like to call them now. Most of the "golden era staff" has left since Micro$oft. Grabbed by the Ghoulies was also bad, (not accoring to reviewers/critcics) haven't played it though. Retro Studios could be the modern-day Rareware..... 2 amazing DK games witin the span of 3/4 years, a Mario Kart game, etc.
2. Make a powerful (tech-wise) console
The Wii U is supposedly VASTLY unpowered (may as well put it with the UU tier, right? ) to the competing consoles (a la Xbox One and PS4). If I was the president of Nintendo, I would make a new, powerful console for the ninth generation of consoles. Maybe it would be a fair amount in terms of power above the Xbox One and PS4. Put general social media apps on it. (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Skype, etc.) Make a contract with Twitch/Ustream for console streaming, using the hashtag og #(insertconsole9thgennamehere)Share.
3. Old IP's
Time to start being happy, you Genwuners,Metroidroids, F-Zerouyans(<Ha, has Ouya in it), etc. Put someone with the Metroid, F-Zero IP, like Retro Studios, and they might make it good enough to be GOTY, you never know. Right now, there is more demand for reviving Nintendo's IP's more than anything for what I've seen on the internet for Directs, besides VC which addressed earlier. If you put F-Zero / Star Fox and Platinum Games together, you might get a masterpiece. Metroid and Retro will go together, too.
4. 3rd Party Games
"Wiu has non 3rd patry games" is something I see alot on Wii U-related videos on YouTube. Maybe I could bribe Rockstar, Square Enix, or Ubisoft (Thank god for Ubisoft and Wii U) for the latet GTA, FF/DQ/Tomb Raider/South Park on Wii U. Ports, nah who cares. Their new 3rd party games on Wii U we, the fans, want. I would've bought GTAV if it came to Wii U. Maybe the next COD could be built from the Wii U, not Xbox One PS4 dev kits. Put an Assassin's Creed Trilogy on the Wii U. I FOR SURE would buy that.
5. The Next "DS"
Come one, we know it's going to happen. The Fusion DS thing could be real. I would propose an idea to Miyamoto-san that an HDS is possible. Some 1st party support at launch, of course, but pull the big guns at E3. Imagine, a portable HD Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, Sonic, or maybe even Kirby game on the go. The Vita will die, but I do want Spelunky.......

So, that was my thoughts on becoming CEO/president/whatever you want to call it for Nintendo.

This thread is hogging the room for other doom threads. Thusly I have now decided to change my approach, cool videos will now be posted randomly in whatever is the most popular doom thread of the time.

Okay, I'll give it a shot.

If I ran the company, I would try to make it less transparent. I may push marketing to bring back characters like Howard and Nester to discuss upcoming features and games. Perhaps I could consider pushing more marketing for retro fans. Overall, I would push for more variety in marketing to appeal to a bigger audience using all announced games.

Game wise, I would not change much. Nintendo is already expanding and restructuring their development teams.

Current games: Everything on Switch

If I ran the company, I would cease production of the Wii U before things get even more embarrassing.

-Fire the marketing team and bring in the guys who came up with the original Crash Bandicoot commercials for the PS1
-Push for more variety and new IPs
-Bring back old IPs (whether it's StarFox or StarTropics. Nintendo needs to expand the range)
-Sleep with whoever I had to in order to get some third party support
-Buy some more competent western based studios like Retro. Maybe snap up some of those indie devs
-Get a decent account system going for the eshop
-Flesh out the online
-Drop the prices of VC games from $5 a pop, to maybe $2.50
-Digital download games should be cheaper than physical copies
-Buy Capcom or some of their IPs
-Get even closer to Sega and score more exclusives
-Explore the possibility of cross-play in a future system. The Fusion concept could be a neat idea if done correctly
-Explore the idea of virtual reality (I'm actually surprised Nintendo didn't come out with something like the Oculus Rift)

1. Marketing. This has been the biggest issue with the Wii U. They are great at marketing to families when a game first releases but a little after that first launch period, the marketing stops. They need to keep pushing it in front of everyone's faces like Sony/MS do. If they are going to get 3rd party exclusives, they need to put in the marketing for those games. They need to try and market to different demographics. They also need to focus on getting their ads in the best possible spots: in the US more and more that means during live TV - Sports and reality TV/competition shows. Also need to push the other features of the Wii U.

2. Make the Nintendo Network more like PSN and set up a system similar to PS+. Give an optional premium subscription service. Give discounts and free downloads, etc. This goes along with the unified account system that needs to be in place.

3. Expand Miiverse. Allow for expanded profiles. Allow people to record and upload small video-clips to Miiverse(I think they are already doing this with MK8, think its called Mario Kart TV).

4. eShop pricing. Nintendo wants to allow developers to set the price of their games which is fine. Do a better job keeping up with stores raising/lowering their prices, and encourage developers to do the same.

5. Virtual console. Need to release more games each week. 1-2 games a week is not cutting it. Also need to bring N64 and GC games to the VC. And the pricing needs to be adjusted. I get that time/labor is used to get the games running and make them able to work via off-TV play as well but they would get more downloads by lowering the prices on some of these games. At the very least they need to come down every couple of months as more games are released.

6. Try to develop more partnerships like they did with Sega and Platinum. Try to work with 3rd party studios to bring games from genres Nintendo isn't particularly strong in. Partner with bigger 3rd party studios(or indie devs) to bring back old/forgotten IPs(either 3rd party or 1st party such as StarFox, F-Zero, etc). The focus would be on getting as much exclusive content as possible.

7. This is a conclusion drawn from Iwata's comments on western trends but: allow NoA/NoE to have more control in how things are done in their territories.

eShop credit for convincing friends to buy a Wii U. The reward needs to be substantial, like enough to get a free game for each friend referred.

I'd make it so there's less less Metroid games.

I don't normally post on forums, but I've had it up to my eyeballs with Nintendo's inability to see the opportunity they have to still turn it around.

I probably don't have a clue but here's my idea

There are 100million Wii's sold, but only 5% have upgraded to wii u.

Also with the new Chinese console market surely a few million Wii sales will be easy.

This has to be the target market. - How about writing to all registered wii owners offering a cheap £150 Wii part ex upgrade package to all Wii owners and refurbish/format all the old Wii's to sell to the new Chinese market?

I know loads of people with a Wii that just comes out for just dance or Mario Kart and they have still have no idea the Wii U is even a thing - to add in unlimited karaoke U or sports would appeal to this market and restart casual interest

Just don't try and chase the ps xbox market - Nintendo need the casuals to fund the cool stuff and build a bigger user base
