Topic: Genres that the Wii U lacks that Nintendo should supplement with 1st party games

Obviously not every genre that Nintendo lacks needs to be supplemented. The Wii U really doesn't need a Flight Sim or a MOBA. But which genres do you think Nintendo should enter to alleviate the lack of genre diversity on the system?

I honestly think Nintendo has no reason not to create an MLBPA licensed baseball game. It doesn't have to be super realistic, it can be like MLB Slugfest instead. The only baseball game on the market anymore is MLB: The Show.

Nintendo could also do with a space FPS on the Wii U.

Sports would be good. Also, some 3D open world adventure game.

Zelda? Unless you mean a Sandbox game.

Fighting games are lacking atm there are only 2 (excluding VC) currently on the system.

Beyond Zelda, Zelda is getting tired. Heck, the N64 specialized in these types of games.

run n gun
All types of shmup (Bullet Hell and classic. Verticle and Horizontal).
Rail Shooter (Both the Panzer Dragoon Type and the Virtua Cop type).
Platformer - Mario vs Donkey Kong. (Not a touch one one like Donkey Kong '94 or the GBA one).
2D Driving (Like NES Micro Machines for example).

Not really. We get a new console Zelda every 4 years. That's pretty sparingly. And each one is mechanically really original.

I think the Wii U could use a MOBA. The touch screen mixed with real controls could make something really cool. I recently got to play Guardians of Middle-Earth (a MOBA designed for a controller) and it was better than I expected

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

OK, you may think so. Hyrule Warriors, Wind Waker HD, ALBW, Zelda U all within a year or two of each other. Now don't get me wrong, I like Zelda but come on. Nintendo has numerous IP's they can explore new environments and worlds with but instead of something new it's back to Zelda land.

So many!

1. Wishful thinking but I'd love to see a MMORPG, something like (but not) World of Warcraft - that would be perfect with Miiverse and the gamepad

2. Also building sims, like Sim City, Minecraft (cough), Clash of Clans..

2. Weirdly missing, and I thought I'd see so many more, is casual art/music apps - with the exception of Art Academy sketch pad (but not really a game like the DS version - where are the lessons?).
I thought we'd see something like Cooking Mama or Nintendogs for casual gamers by now.. maybe at E3...

It doesn't really make sense to count remasters and spinoffs. A remaster is just a visual upgrade for people who want to play the same game but prettier. There is no expectation whatsoever of a new experience. A spinoff might was well be a completely different game, it just has a Zelda coat of paint.

I don't really see the problem. A handheld Zelda every 2-4 years, and a home console Zelda every 3-5 years. That's a good pace to be revisiting Zelda. Now if we are talking Mario it's another story. We get at least one if not 2 or 3 Mario platformers every year. It's absolutely incessant.

ClockworkMario

An open worlds sandbox. Sure, there's Watch_Dogs but that's delayed indefinitely and beyond that... absolutely nothing.

Perhaps they could create a whole new genre, since Nintendo so rarely explores those found by others. I'm expecting much from Miyamoto's pet project on this front.

Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8

I wouldn't mind seeing Defiance come to Wii U, it is becoming Free-to-Play soon and it is really fun.

DualWielding

Its basically lacking in all genres except platformers and party games. Thats why you need third party support. You cannot fill so many holes only with first party

Dating Sims. They should make a game like super smash bros, with all the characters from the different games, but a dating sim

Animal Crossing on Wii U because Animal Crossing is in a league of its own.

moomoo

The Gamepad has a large touch screen and there are no strategy games on the Wii U like StarCraft or Civilization. That's an injustice.
MOBA's would work well with the gamepad.

@Ryno 's point still stands; the exposure to this franchise at least in recent history, is nearing saturation. For the Mario argument to hold any weight you have to admit that 2, 3, or even 5 years is too soon to experience fundamentally similar gameplay. There are evolutions to Zelda titles but there are also iterative movements forward in the Mario games. The story telling ability and world design that sets Nintendo apart could easily be funneled into a new and compelling IP.
