I'm actually pretty disappointed. Got my physical copy through the post yesterday and....it crashed on me within about 2 minutes. Then crashed on me again about 20 minutes later when I tried to quit back to the option screen. Then crashed on me again when I came back to it a couple of hours later. Each time the Wii U would freeze up completely and have to be powered off and restarted.

So for me, it's unplayable and I've had to dig my old Xbox 360 version out to run through it again. I'm not sure how bad the Wii U port of Darksiders 2 was, but this is pretty pathetic. It's a shame, because when the game is actually working properly it's great but the frequent and seemingly random lock ups just kill any enjoyment stone dead....you would literally have to be manually saving the game every 10 seconds or so to ensure you don't lose much progress.

Unless it's patched, I won't be loading it up on my Wii U again

@TromaDogg Came here to excitedly post that my copy had arrived, so... yeah. Probably won't be until tomorrow that I get too test it out, but at least we know it exists, huh.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

@TromaDogg: That's...disconcerting, though I suppose not too far out of left field, unfortunately. I won't write this version off just yet, but I had thought that the extra time in development was partially to get rid of such problems. I'll likely be keeping an eye on this topic as well as any Wii U specific reviews for this game before I decide to buy it.

Normally I can ignore a few things like graphical slowdowns or the occasional glitch, but hard freezing is another matter. I dealt with random freezing when playing AC III (though thankfully not with IV) and have no desire to go through that again with my Wii U.

I was thinking of ordering this from Target this weekend along with ordering a wedding gift, but for now it may just be the wedding gift.

I was willing to forgive 1, maybe 2 crashes. But not 3, especially within the first 30 minutes. The last time it happened I was just running across the screen towards a chest, I'd killed all the enemies in the area and there was nothing that should have caused it.

I've gone back to the Xbox 360 version instead (backwards compatible on the X1) as I've still got that.....asides from a couple of framerate issues here and there it runs fine. It'd definitely not an fault with my Wii U I don't think, just a lousy unoptimized port unfortunately.

@TromaDogg Thanks for posting that. I was planning on getting this, so it's really disappointing to hear about the crashing. I wonder if they'll do a review of this here.

I seem to recall reading that people had trouble with the wii u version of Darksiders II crashing. I never played that one. Thought about getting it when it was on sale on the eshop for like 8 bucks, but I didn't have enough disc space.

@tedko

Had a few crashes with the Wii U version of DSII back in the day and the "upgraded" PC version is a lot worse when it comes to stability. I don't know which group does their Darksiders ports, but they're all unoptimised at best and borderline broken at worst.

I love how THQ Nordic has been supporting both the Wii U and Switch sofar, even keeping their promises when it comes to games on Wii U, but the stability of their games really need to improve >.<

Ok... just to counter this and provide some balance: I've been playing this (UK PAL disc version) for well over an hour today (haven't skipped any cutscenes mind) and gameplay has been flawless. Absolutely no crashes, hangs, freezes or anything.

I actually recorded my first 45 minutes of gameplay at 1080p, but my PC couldn't cope with my recording settings so the footage was rubbish (my first time capturing footage). So I dumped that video and recorded from where I was in the game at 720p just to make sure the performance is smooth.

I'd never played the game before either, so am just getting used to what to do, where to go etc., and unfortunately the recording started just after I'd wiped a load of baddies out, but stick with it.

Seems like a game with great potential - just getting into it now. I certainly wouldn't be put off by the experience posted by TromaDogg, because I've not seen a single fault. Some of the cuts to cutscenes etc. are a bit abrupt, but that's just a taste issue.

I may try it again. It's a shame, because it's a genuinely great game and I've been playing it on Xbox One (via Xbox 360 back compatibility) instead and I never finished it back when I first got it for some reason.

So far I've had zero issues playing the Xbox 360 version, not one freeze or glitch.

I'm happy that there's at least one of you that's had no problem playing it on Wii U but there's no way I could go back to that now after 3 console freezing crashes within 30 minutes of gameplay just by doing normal things (I wasn't trying to access areas I wasn't meant to be able to get to yet or anything like that).

I can only think that maybe my external HDD is causing problems? But all of my other Wii U games and downloads run absolutely fine.

Disc version fine confirmed then. Maybe try reinstalling to the internal storage rather than external if you experience problems with the digital version.

That's a little more encouraging @gcunit. I was hoping this was a one-off instance, or at least not widespread (Hence why I didn't write off the game yet). Regardless of any issues at this point, I may take the chance and pick this up; I want to show that there is a demand for a game like Darksiders, even if it turns out to be a niche audience on Nintendo platforms.

The only problem is, the physical release seems to be limited. Most of the online retailers that were stocking it (None that I use normally) seem to be sold out at this time. There still seems to be an option through Jet.com, but I'm not familiar with the website. Normally I would wait for a restock at this point, but I'm concerned that won't happen at all.

From what I'm seeing, the developers at Nordic games have put a lot of thoughts to the Wii U version. I have nothing but Respect towards Nordic games for trying to get the best possible version for Wii U. I love the Darksiders Series, Just ordered my physical copy. Though I've already played the game back when it was new in my Xbox 360, I'll still buy it out of love for the series and Darksiders 2 is a really good game as well. I'd suggest anyone on the fence to give it a try, it's a hybrid Zelda/God Of War/Prince of Persia and don't forget Darksiders 2 they're both fantastic games. So underrated.

I think I will give it a try. I'm still impressed that they kept their promise and released the wii u version.

My copy finally arrived; I've played for about three hours and haven't experienced any crashes or freezes. However, I did encounter a bug in the first half an hour of playing: an enemy glitched into a wall and I couldn't kill it, meaning I couldn't continue (a barrier wouldn't disappear until the room was cleared). I just reloaded my save and it was fine - the auto-save put me just prior to the fight so I didn't lose any progress. I've also had a few frame-rate issues in large areas (albeit minor), but aside from that the game has been running great and seems quite polished.

@gcunit I thought @TromaDogg was using the physical version?

Anyway, my copy is working fine and I'd recommend the game (especially given the low price). It's a fun little romp, if a little shallow. I was hoping for more depth but the majority of the gameplay consists of button mashing which can get tedious after a while. I've noticed some people have compared it to the Zelda games - if so, it's more Hyrule Warriors than something like Ocarina. Hopefully the game picks up later on, but I'm still happy with my purchase regardless.

@MarcelRguez I don't think you'll be disappointed. The glitch I encountered seemed to be a one-off: I hit the enemy as it spawned in, sending it beyond the wall (haven't experienced it again since). The frame-rate issues lasted for mere seconds (hardly noticeable really) and only happened on two or three occasions. No freezing, no crashes, no other bugs of note. Gameplay is fast and smooth for the most part, even with plenty of action going on.

And... I've just entered an area which has a Zelda-dungeon vibe to it. I was hoping the game would pick up and it seems it has. Good timing considering my previous post! The more I play, the more I'm enjoying it, and despite the button-mashing the combat is still satisfying.
