@SuperVirtualBoy So I received this response from THQNordic pasted below. I think we should contact Nintendo as well. If we put the pressure on hopefully we will get a patch. I was able to get a solid 5 hours in today with only one freeze. Extremely frustrating. Having to do a force shutdown is not my favorite thing to do. Hopefully it gets addressed.
Dear customer,
We will forward your E-mail to our Production department.
Unfortunately we don't know anything about the former or future titles/patches/DLC-s or bug fixes but any client request and feedback about our titles are taken seriously and will be debated.
Yuck, all that talk about crashing. Do you guys recommend the game? I should receive it in the mail on Friday 30th, PAL version. But maybe I should cancel it? A real shame. I found Darksiders 2 to be great fun, but have still to finish it.
@Henmii I'm 25 hours in and have experienced just one freeze. I've also had 4 glitches in all that time but none were game-breaking, just silly stuff like enemies being trapped in the scenery or my character's weapon disappearing (I could still attack but had an invisible weapon, and a quick reload fixed it; praise the auto-save!). I've experienced far more glitches and bugs in games such as GTA or Assassin's Creed.
The frame-rate is a bit dodgy in places but, again, it doesn't ruin the game; it actually runs very well, certainly much better than its sequel (there's no screen tearing). As folk are reporting different results (both here and on Miiverse), I wonder if some of the freezes/glitches are due to individual Wii Us rather than (solely) the game itself: old consoles, dust in the vents, overheating, dirty lenses, etc. For example, some people on Miiverse are reporting falling through the floor, going out of bounds, lockups during cutscenes, wrong audio in cutscenes... I haven't experienced any of that.
Gameplay-wise, I'm really enjoying it. There's more depth than I originally thought: less button-mashing and more story, exploration, platforming and puzzle solving (and to be fair, with upgraded abilities the combat isn't that shallow anyway). There are plenty of upgrades, collectibles and environmental puzzles, while the dungeons and weapons are Zelda-like (item-specific areas, bomb-plants, hookshot, boomerang, horseback combat, etc).
So yeah... 25 hours in, 4 glitches (none game-breaking), some frame-rate issues (albeit tolerable) and one console freeze. It's not the best port and won't get game of the year, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. Plus, it was cheap. Can't grumble.
On a side note, for some reason the disc is rated 18+ but the game box is 15+. Strange.
@RainbowGazelle That's interesting; thanks for the clarification. According to a quick Google search, PEGI replaced the BBFC as the ratings body for video games in the UK in 2012. "Its 12, 16, and 18 age ratings are now enforceable under British law, meaning a fine of up to £5,000 or six months in jail awaits the retailer or individual responsible for selling games to those too young to play them."
So the PEGI 18 rating inside the box takes precedence over the BBFC 15 on the outside of the box, meaning retailers selling the game to under-18s are breaking the law (maybe without realising). Wonder how that would hold up in court? Seems a bit daft.
Hmm, so I wonder why it's using the initial BBFC rating instead of just PEGI? My best guess is that it's a printing error left over from the game's first run/rating in the UK (back in 2010)? It's rated M (17+) here, both inside and out.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
@Tyranexx Ah, yes the original released in 2010 (before the ratings changeover) so you're probably right - maybe somebody wasn't paying attention when they (re)created the game cover.
You've had the game a few weeks now - have you managed to play it yet? Any glitches/freezes at all?
@Monkey_Balls: I haven't managed to play it yet. I was contemplating starting on it for my next Wii U game, but the Metroid hype from E3 made me opt to start playing through Metroid Prime 2 instead. XD Plus, the potential freezing (though each individual seems to be experiencing the effects differently) has dampened my enthusiasm a bit.
I may play it after finishing Echoes, however. Minus the technical issues, Darksiders seems like a great game.

As far as I can tell, publishers can still apply for a BBFC rating if they think it'll be rated lower. So Darksiders can be sold to 15 year olds in the UK only. Capcom did this with a few Resident Evil games, e.g. Resi 4 is PEGI 18, but only BBFC 15, so it can be sold to 15 year olds here.
*A more recent example is Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. It came out in 2011, but has a BBFC 15 rating here.
Only 1 freeze in 25 hours sounds okay. I guess I'll will make the plunge after all. I'll wait till my copy arrives. If it doesn't arrive for some reason, I'll just download it someday. Thanks for the answer!
Oh, I finally got the game in the mail yesterday. Tried it today, played 2 hours, great so far. Looks and plays great, no problems so far. Hopefully it stays that way!
Update: 5 and a half hours in. So far had 1 crash, sadly.
