I got some flak for saying this in other places, but... I definitely feel like the gap between the Wii U and PS4 just isn't as big as the media and "hardcore gamers" are making it out to be. I looked at those games, and even though the video is compressed badly, I just don't see myself saying "this would be so much better on PS4". Sure, the PS4 is more powerful, but I don't see it being the Wii vs PS3/XBox360, and after seeing Bayonetta 2 and 'X' some more, I'm thoroughly convinced that the Wii U is less powerful, but will have no problems keeping up as more games start to push the system! Am I the only one that thinks the gap has shrunk a little? The Wii U is clearly underestimated, if you ask me.
Some people say "wait until PS4/XBox1 is on the market for a year", but the thing is, it seems like those systems are already being tapped into quite a bit more than people think. At the same time, there's no denying that the 3rd party ports on the Wii U are afterthoughts, leaving only Nintendo to push the system. Since Nintendo is behind on HD development, I have no doubt that the Wii U is also not at its full potential (though that can be attributed to the slow release of games). Thoughts?
The only problem I see with 3rd party ports on Wii U is that the people moaning about them play the crappy disc versions. Also alot of the PSBOX41 game trailers show 90% cutscenes running on a high end PC and when it does have a gameplay bit it looks exactly like a PS360 game
I personally don't find the PS4 or XB1 that interesting yet in regards to the games they are offering.
Besides Watch Dogs and Destiny, both next gen consoles are offering upgraded experiences that can already already be found on current gen (Titanfall, BF4, Infamous). Yeah they are upgrades, but there isn't enough innovation yet to warrant spending $400-500 on a console when the PS3 has a perfectly fleshed out library that is much superior to either next gen console.
The Wii U on the other hand is such a large upgrade for Nintendo games in specific (SD -> HD, better online) that it's worth picking up for those experiences. Just as (right now) it would be worth going from PS2->PS3 or Xbox -> 360 because those consoles have libraries worth upgrading for.
I'll be happy with my 360, PS3, 3DS, Wii U combo for awhile. Probably not until late 2015 will it be worth considering the PS4. Until then the library just isn't "next gen" enough like Wii U Nintendo games are compared to the Wii.
The graphical leap between gens in general wasn't that big, so of course the gap between Wii U and PS4/XB1 is smaller.
The Wii U will have no problems cranking out very good-looking games. Heck, it already has.
However, I don't know if judging games by their trailers is ever a good indication of how well a game runs.
I did manage to get my hands on some direct feed footage of Bayonetta 2, and the combat is 60 fps, but cinematics are 30 fps (mind boggles, but most likely because cinematics with a non-steady framerate never looks good).
But as some people know, I'm a PC gamer as well, with a gaming rig. I have a pretty decent sense of great graphics, lol I can tell that I will be able to see the shortcomings in Bayonetta 2 and 'X', but I already see shortcomings in KZ:SF and Knack, neither of which I found that impressive...

Someone did shoot themselves in the foot on another forum by showing me PC footage of The Witcher 3, but I AM going by exclusives, because those cannot be shown on anything other than the hardware itself, since there's no PC version to create the commercials/ads from (other than doing pre-rendered stuff).
When Nintendo released the Wii and got all that crap for releasing a weaker "inferior" console, they were bound to "catch up" before long. Microsoft/Sony can only go so long till they hit a wall separating graphics that look "almost like real life" and actual video. So while Microsoft and Sony have been putting tons of money into cranking out super ultra HD consoles that they lose money on(although I can't say if the PS4 or Xbox One will lose money over the long run, as I'm not as knowledgeable in the gaming industry as, say, Michael Pachter ) Nintendo is doing what they do best. Making games that are just as good (and arguably better than those on competing platforms) on their own platform that is weaker hardware-wise.
I like to compare the competition of having the strongest hardware and the highest specs to boys going through puberty. Everybody goes at their own rate; some slower, some faster. The ones that are growing fast(Microsoft/Sony) are way too focused on girls("hardcore" gamers) and getting their attention with how good looking they are(specs and mature games). Now the ones that are growing slower(Nintendo) are more focused on just being a good early teenager and getting good grades(making good games). Now, years later, everyone has developed into adults(technology has reached a brick wall where PS and Xbox can't really make games look any better than they ever have) and even the late bloomers(Nintendo) are now grown and good looking(have just as strong specs as the competition). All the girls(hardcore gamers) have noticed. Not only are the late bloomers(Nintendo) very handsome(strong specs) but also they have great grades(best games and franchises on the market) because they didn't focus on making themselves look better(make strong systems that nobody would be interested in developing for since it's overpriced).
Puberty can be awkward. And I think Nintendo is in its own little puberty right now.
