When Nintendo released the Wii and got all that crap for releasing a weaker "inferior" console, they were bound to "catch up" before long. So while Microsoft and Sony have been putting tons of money into cranking out super ultra HD consoles that they lose money on(although I can't say if the PS4 or Xbox One will lose money over the long run, as I'm not as knowledgeable in the gaming industry as, say, Michael Pachter ) Nintendo is doing what they do best. Making games that are just as good (and arguably better than those on competing platforms) on their own platform that is weaker hardware-wise.

I like to compare the competition of having the strongest hardware and the highest specs to boys going through puberty. Everybody goes at their own rate; some slower, some faster. The ones that are growing fast(Microsoft/Sony) are way to focused on girls("hardcore gamers") and getting their attention with how good looking they are(specs and mature games). Now the ones that are growing slower(Nintendo) are more focused on just being a good early teenager and getting good grades(making good games). Now, years later, everyone has developed(technology has reached a brick wall where PS and Xbox can't really make games look any better than they ever have) and even the late bloomers(Nintendo) are now grown and good looking(have just as strong specs as the competition). All the girls(hardcore gamers) have noticed. Not only are the late bloomers(Nintendo) very handsome(strong specs) but also they have great grades(best games and franchises on the market) because they didn't focus on making themselves look better(make strong systems that nobody would be interested in developing for since it's overpriced).

Puberty can be awkward. And I think Nintendo is in its own little puberty right now.

A very odd analogy, but I get your point

Personally, I think Nintendo has always been more mature, but morals and patience don't sell consoles, and therein lies the greatest problem. I believe Nintendo continues to take the high road instead of getting down and dirty, but the high road is the path less taken, and is therefore less populated. There's just not a bunch of gamers anymore looking for games filled with creativity, fun, local multiplayer, and replayability. The new generation of ADD kids just wants what they want, and they want it like a quick fix. There's no open mind to the things Nintendo stands for, but rather things that appeal to their most basic of senses. As young males, this is, naturally, appearance, "cool" factor, convenience, and many other issues I personally have with modern games (and I DO play games other than Nintendo games, but I always come back to Nintendo for the "real" games!).

Nah, I'll just use the present Uncle Sam gives me in the next weeks that's even better and won't put me in debt.

Ah, a fellow states gamer I'm going to be using my tax return towards my show, lmao

My return will be going to various things, but a good chunk of it will be to catch up on some games I've missing. It's good to be an American... at least most of the time.

I take it enough people keep telling you that you're missing out? lol... Good selection there, I'm really glad to see you put W101 on the list, I reviewed that game on my talk show recently, and it's really an undersold gem. It's not perfect, but is entirely worthy of being a must-have game for Wii U owners!

Well, I want to grow my show as much as possible before I come to my "financial hearing" (of my own with myself, obviously, lmao) at the 3 month mark (episode 12), so that tax money isn't going to anything else

Yeah when I talked about Nintendo "growing up" I was using "growing up" to mean progressing in technology. I've always thought that Nintendo has better morals in their games than most other game development companies. I always respect entertainment companies that make products enjoyable for kids and adults alike. That's why I respect Nintendo, Pixar, Dreamworks and the like so much.

Wii U games look awesome, even the stuff that could probably be done early on 360/Ps3 tech looks great and at the same time it does feel like it is definitely an improvement over the previous generation in areas that are comparable to PS4/Xbox One (especially X). Of course, as someone who still enjoys my N64 collection I might not be the ideal person to talk about graphics and PS4/Xbox One will later on probably more often than not ultimately have more impressive looking titles from a technical aspect, but I don't care as long as the aesthetic is so boring that it's actively trying to sabotage my interest in otherwise interesting titles (TITANFALL). Honestly, I don't think anyone worth taking seriously at all considers the graphical differences to be a major problem of Wii U anyway.

Dunno man I look X and Bauo2 and both don't hold a candle to infamous, Quantum Break and the order.

On the note of @kkslider5552000, X is pretty bland looking at times.

It's not quite as colorful as Xenoblade, which is a little disappointing, but I've seen a decent defense from a couple of Nier fans which apparently did a similar slightly washed out color sort of thing that worked out brilliantly. And most of my love for the graphics from Xenoblade came from the world and not like the character designs or necessarily even the art style, and the stuff I cared about seem to live up to what I would hope for so far.

I don't hate the look of every game that isn't as colorful as Wind Waker btw, Titanfall is pretty much THE defining frustrating aesthetic for me right now.

It's weird I feel that Titanfall and X are both very bland in oppiste ends of thebspetrum but it works. Titanfall is bland in a way that reminds me if mechwarrior or how the mechs look in Front Mission or those table top RPGS. X is more animish balnd with the hyper sleek robots that can pull stupid ultra advance mode when specs clearly state that it shouldn't be possible.

Watching the beta of Titanfall makes me want to go out and buy an Xbox One.

I'm curious to know what specs you're even talking about. Do you live in a world with real live mechs that you can compare to these? You must. How do I join you?

Yeah, like 90 of why Xenoblade looked awesome was the world and to a lesser extent the monsters and the game clearly knew that considering outside of battles the camera tended to not focus so much on the characters. They were just small little models that you could identify to do the fun gameplay things so you could explore the world which looked amazing and fight cool monsters and such.

Depends on the series. The OG mobile suit gundam was based as far in reality as it could be and a lot of the designs and dudes were built with actual hardware behind. On mostly talking about the Transformers style bull where the matrix of leadership causes you to sprout wings or some crap.

Sorry, that's all pretty confusing to me. I don't pay attention to the Gundam series at all, although it's always kind of interested me. Only thing I ever watched remotely close to that would be Transformers. Only game I've ever played with Mechs is the Front Mission on PS and I vaguely remember that, maybe a few others that I barely remember as well. I still don't really see specs that would say that the mech couldn't do what it did in the trailer, as far as it's changing from one shape to another (I assume that's what you're talking about). It looked pretty seamless to me. It's their universe so they can have them do whatever they please without having to go too much in depths on the why or hows. I don't think they should be compared to Mechs in other series. I've never even played Xenoblade though so maybe I don't have any say in the matter.

As far as the world goes in the X game, I think so far, it's looked great. It makes you want to explore it just by taking one glance. The monsters in the previous trailers look awesome, too.

I don't know that looks like a pretty big gap to me, and as time goes on that gap will get bigger. Evolve gameplay graphically is very good as well.

Also some of you lot need to get over this mature thing in games.

Im sure Xbox1 and Ps4 will improve over the years...but theres a problem with their situation, wich is, their graphics already look very close to reality...wich means that whtever improvement they have over the years, will not be very significant...they will have to focus on gameplay inovations, wich is great...

I fear for nintendo, because nintendo introduced the motion control but didnt take that to a high level of development...as third party companies meet the the limits in graphical fidelity, they will try to improve in the interactivity of the game, employing realistic phisycs and they will eventually realize the nescessity of motion controls, thus they will end up making the realistc, imerssive, motion control games that nintendo should have made...it will make me sad for nintendo to be sidesteped this way

I hope for the misterious miyamoto first person game about manipulating objects be the game that finally makes people understande the real potential of motion controls

PS3 to PS4 is more of a significant upgrade in processing power and memory. The Wii U lags behind the competition in that area, but its graphical output is slightly better than the PS3, so games shouldn't look too much different (in theory).

The fact that Platinum can get Bayonetta 2 to play at a constant 60fps is a pretty impressive technical achievement though. Definitely proves that the Wii U is underrated in power. It's got some muscle under the hood that most developers just haven't tapped into yet.

With graphics, we're beginning to reach the plateau though. When it does hit that, there will be a problem in diminishing returns. Sony and Microsoft could spend another 10 billion dollars making their graphics look slightly better, but why bother? Nobody has a wall-sized TV where some superultrahyper resolution would be necessary, so why even spend that kind of money developing for 0.0000001% of the market? That's why most innovations these days aren't in graphics.

Mature has nothing to do with boring aesthetic. Even purely from an M-rated perspective, I mean one of the first M rated games on Nintendo was a cartoony platformer, and I still prefer the aesthetic to that WAAAAAY more than games that waste amazing technical power on the blandest art style possible. Also while I'm personally not a fan, Gears of War has a waaaaaay better aesthetic than a Titanfall.

Also Bioshock Infinite, a game that went into mature themes of racism and violence and the darkest extremes of olde pro American ideas with one of the best sidekick characters and one of the best conclusions to a story in gaming. COLORFUL AESTHETIC. GREAT AESTHETIC. THE END.

(though the Order does have potential in this regard at least...and ignoring my complaining about aesthetic, if I ever wanted to get Titanfall and my labtop wouldn't explode trying to play it, I'd probably have a lot of fun despite being boring looking in an area graphically. So there.)
