I always pronounced it sue-coh-den, but I could be wrong on how to pronounce it. Also oldgamesonly, the guy who started the thread already has SOTN. Do you have any other reccomendations?

Heart of Darkness by Eric Chahi, who also made Another World/Out of This World, which inspired Fumito Ueda, who made Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

The latter.

And we'll see how it goes. It's usually best if I go with my gut, and my gut is telling me to start with 2.

@Mickeymac: if you're like me, you'll start with 2, get alllll up into it, and immediately dive into 1 and play them both in sequence in order to see everything 2 has to offer. :3

Thanks, EarthViper. I was just curious, 'cause I would've thought that it had a Japanese pronounciation, I mean with a title like Suikoden.

Suikox.com used to have a bunch of sound files with names from the series being pronounced but sadly that page has 404'd or I'd have linked you. Suffice to say if you play the series you'll find several place/character names that you also are unsure about the pronunciation of. Generally I don't mind, it's almost a opportunity to personalize the universe by pronouncing them the way you like. I remember growing up reading Tolkien and I can safely say when I watched the LOTR movies it was almost a bummer to hear them pronounced so differently lol.

That's fair, it is generally speaking the best one and though as I said there is a continuity they all can stand alone. Most of the connections would probably be considered fan service anyways so it's probably just because of how much I love the universe that I personally can't help but play them in order.

I also recommend Jumping Flash and Jumping Flash 2. They're fun little Japanese platformers.

WiiFreedom

Parasite Eve's I and II were good RPGs by Squaresoft, definately give them a try.

Oh yeah! Castlevania SOTN was the most best in the series, try that one too.

Besides Suikoden here's a few others off the top of my head I haven't noticed mentioned yet.

Einhander:
Considering it was, to my knowledge, Square's first foray into the genre and one of their first non JRPG attempts I'm very impressed at how good this game is. If you like scrolling shooters this is definitely one to try (Keep in mind it's notably easier than your typical 'bullet hell' game which may or may not be a good thing to you).

Tales of Destiny/Tales of Eternia:
While the series has really improved it's battle system over the years to be much deeper and more fluid these games are still fun if you want to see some of the earlier entries in the series.

Wipeout XL:
A really fun racer for the time, if you like F-Zero or Extreme G you'll probably like this.

Lunar 1&2:
Though originally Sega CD games these really good JRPG's finally got a chance at a decent sized market on the PS1 and Working Designs really pulled out all the stops on the localization.

Alundra 1&2:
Kind of bearing a resemblance to 16bit games like Beyond Oasis and A Link to the Past these are some pretty fun top-down Adventure-Puzzle type games.

I remember this one game where you controlled a jungle boy with a pink hairdo. The game was called Tomba or Tombi (whichever of the two). I remember having fun with it when I was little.

Ridge Racer series, Tekken series, Croc series, Klonoa, Crash Bandicoot series, Wipeout, Gex series, Namco Museum series, Mega Man 8, Mega Man X4 - X6, and that's all I can think of.

I've heard Tomba was great, but I don't own that one.

I looked up that Tomba was *Tombi in Europe, and vice versa in America. Don't get that at all. :/

There is another game: Pandemonium! It's an early PlayStation game with 2D gameplay with 3D graphics. You can only move left or right, the camera constantly keeps centering around you, and it rotates around you as well, which is cool.

Legend of Dragoon. Seriously. It's one of the best games I've ever played.

It has a very compelling and interesting storyline with a ton of crazy plot twists. Some extremely good graphics (probably the best of any game on the PS1.) An awesome Dragoon system, where you turn into a more powerful form and cast powerful spells. And last but not least an awesome, rewarding combo system.

Critics have bashed this game into oblivion, and I could write an entire book on how they are wrong, and how the game only has a few minor problems that don't even interfere with the gameplay. But, I'd rather let you guys tell me for yourselves.

If you're a fan of fighting games, then Tekken 3 is amazing and should not be missed.

I always pronounced it sook-o-den, but if you have played Metal Gear Solid one on PSone and have a save file of Suikoden on the same Memory card that you have MGS on, when you fight Psycho Mantis he says "AH I see you like Sue-ee-coh-den". So I guess the correct way to pronounce it would be Sue-ee-cho-den.
