Hey so I recently picked up a n64. I used to own one years ago and loved it so I thought I'd get one for rainy days and such. Anyways I found one but when hooked up to my 42" Led TV the picture Quality just isn't the same as I remember it being. So I searched around and found that it's a common problem..... I did hear about getting an upscaler To get better picture... I found ones on eBay for about 50 bucks but would like to know from other people of its worth getting? Or if they're are any other ways to get better picture quality other then getting an 80's TV set..
As I have said countless times around here when people ask this question you need to get a CRT TV. Any system before the Wii will just look horrible on a a newer HD TV plus you have to deal with input lag. YOu can usually find a CRT TV really cheap nows days. Just keep your eye out at thrift stores, garage sales, even Craigslist. They can go for $20 or less.
I am surprised that @Waveboy hasn't popped in yet to give his retro advice

Here's your answer.
If you're not playing on one of these, you're not playing with power.
Lol so true. In fact I just picked up a Sony Wega CRT from my local Goodwill for 15 bucks yesterday. For now I am just keeping it in storage so when my current CRT dies I will be able to keep on retro gaming.

I suggest hooking your N64 into a Game Boy screen. That would blow my mind.
But seriously, I wouldn't recommend a rear projection for ANYTHING. They can easily break/shadow when you move them, a complete pain to repair (light engine, color wheels, etc.), and when I had a 60'' I bought for 100 bucks, I had to tell the movers we had a piano on the 2nd floor apartment. Better off getting yourself a decent 'tube' TV. I found a 32'' for 20 bones and it's perfect for the bedroom. Also hooked up my VCR.
I love jokes that imply that ponies use the internet.

n64 and "quality" do not belong in the same topic, surely you were asking why the sega genesis is so powerful. its okay, it happens

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
Really just an echo at this point, but I'll throw my support behind the CRT. They're cheap as heck now and really the only way to enjoy older games without them looking like garbage. Even Gen 6 looks like junk on a decent sized HDTV. Those games just weren't made with those resolutions and aspect ratios in mind.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
well it'll depend on your eyes how it'll work on a LED Tv, some see no difference(probably those need glasses and don't know), some find it ugly and unplayable and some won't notice the difference but will get dizzy from the distorted image(like my sister)
in the end the best option is having a good old trusty CRT TV(I still have the same TV I had when I was a kid )
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn
