If this is about rare games, is it true that the Japanese GC Twilight Princess is considered pretty rare (I remember they were considering not releasing it at all)?
@JayH: As far as I know, the only releases of LttP was on regular gray carts. No gold. I do recall at least more than one version though, release version and later Player's Choice.

@JayH: If I remember correctly, it was the label, there was a medal on the later version while the earlier one looked the same, but without the medal. What I didn't notice was whether the cart was the redesigned cart or not, earlier Super Nintendo cartridges were slightly different from later ones in that the area underneath the label was filled except for a notch and later ones didn't have that I presume to save plastic.

I'm only aware of the original release of ALttP (I got the game new several months after Nintendo switched the cart design) and the Player's Choice (which had different cover art than the original). But I know some SNES games were re-released to contain an ESRB rating, before additionally getting a Player's Choice release (I know Tetris 2 was, and I think SimCity was too). The SNES cart redesign was because enough people complained they couldn't eject the earlier design.
Is the gold coloring on the N64 carts a painted finish, or was it mixed into the plastic? My copy of "Ocarina" appears to wearing off slightly.
it must be mixed into the plastic I don't believe they would have more care for Pokémon Stadium 2(the gold is mixed in the plastic for sure and with silver glittering too) than Zelda.

@supermario182: Yeah the re-release of ALttP had a rock like looking label while the original was just a plain gold one. They never had a gold cartridge for it. After the two NES games the next one to get a gold cartridge was the N64 OoT.

It wouldn't have affected Game Genie, though because the carts still fit.
It's only games that use the expansion pins (like SuperFX games) that it can't support.
