Who reigns supreme in the 2D fighting arena in your opinion? Capcom or SNK?

Street Fighter is for little children, c'mon!

(just teasing)

Oh well in that case than I would have to go with Street Fighter mainly cause of all the time and money I have spent on those games over the years. I do like SNK games mainly the Fatal Fury series but SF just barely beats it.

Street Fighter is more easily accessible to gamers of varying degrees of skill yet takes skill and dedication to master. There is also a deep level of psychology that is inherent in fighting games and with Street Fighter, is more easily exploitable due to the fact that it is easily accessible, gameplay wise and there are very few individuals who play video games that have never been exposed to Street Fighter or lack the ability to understand the mechanics of its gameplay.

Being a fighting game player, I do enjoy SNK as well, but the only people who you'll end up fighting against are other SNK gamers. The control of the characters and the mechanics of series like KoF tend to scare away the more casual players in my experience due to new players having the odds stacked against them when fighting against seasoned SNK fighting game fanatics. ...I'm generalizing, but there are no casual SNK fighting gamers.

Your personal results may vary. In order to fully appreciate what I'm saying, you do need to play fighting games on a deeper level than with casual play.

For casual play, definitely Capcom > SNK. I've never had a difficult time finding friends to play Street Fighter with me vs KoF.

For serious play, personal preference. I still vote for Capcom though, I think the potential for size of professional community is larger than SNK would be.

For 3D, I've never dug Tekken, but Virtua Fighter has its moments, however...

Between the two I'd have to give it to Capcom as they've had more interesting and unique fighters over the years, but they've also shared this commonality with mostly simpler moves to pull off so it became an to pick up harder to master setup. SNK though they've never been consistent and are just more stiffer/harder to pick up, but sometimes they've had even more interesting characters -- also they diversify more than Capcom would looking at their weapon fighter masterpiece series Samurai Shodown. It's a bit of a toss up, but in the general rule I think Capcom would get the nod, but SNK serves a wider audience in styles of games they make and just are more diverse.

It's a tie for me. While Capcom tends to be more consistant as far as polish goes, SNK has a much greater variety of games, and both of them have made some of the best fighting games in history.
