Topic: Are you choosing to go Retro next gen?

If retro means focusing only on Nintendo consoles and ignoring PS Xbox and PC (the last one for lack of time) then yes... trying to do that. So like others have said. A blend of Nintendo and retro. And I guess some smartphone stuff is inevitable but I see it as a different thing altogether not true gaming.

No...I mean it actually depends on the person, usually the older you are, the more difficult it is to adapt to a rapidly evolving video game industry but of course it also depends on how big you were into games to begin wtih....but as for someone who didn't really get into Playstation or Xbox, besides going to a friend's house and playing previously, till late 2010...it's still a welcome change for me from the Nintendo normal i'll always be familiar with.

I think there's innovation and great experiences to be had in all categories of the gaming world and I will be happy to be part of it all both past, present and future.

Yes. I'm skipping this upcoming generation, and I might not even participate in the generation after if gaming continues on the path its headed.

I've been playing a lot of retro games this year, but that doesn't mean I'm going to ignore all the new games coming out. You can play a mix a both and be happy.

✰ not around as much as I used to be ✰

I'll just play whatever i feel like playing. If it's retro or modern doesn't mater.

I like to play a lot of retro classics that I was not fortunate enough to be around when they were but I also enjoy all the modern Nintendo games so i'll most likely still be playing lots of retro games during the next generation in addition to the Wii U games.

PlayStations go in the trash. Retro games can be recycled.

I've been mostly modern, but have found myself looking back to learn and live Nintendo's rich past. For example, I've just played Kirby's adventure for the first time on my 3DS last week! As for getting older consoles, maybe, maybe not. It depends on my situation when I move out on my own and if there are enough games not available on virtual consoles to warrant buying them.

I'm probably just sticking with the Wii-U for next gen with my 3DS, but otherwise I'm sticking to the VC and older systems.

I'm also getting tired of this industry.

With the industry going the way it is (digital distribution, DRM, gaming as a service etc.) I don't see myself keeping up with it. To be honest, I'm about to call it quits here - I'll build a new PC in the next year or two, and may pick up a couple of games for it, but for the most part I'll stick with what I've already got. I'm not going to buy any more consoles.

I'm sure I'll miss out on a lot of great games but I'm getting to the point where I feel many publishers are so anti-consumer that I'm not happy to hand my money over to them. There are still a few good publishers out there, but with limited time and money I think I'll likely just keep the games I've already got and leave it at that.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

All those "boycotting" the current gen or anything entertainment related are ridiculous.

Gaming tastes are so subjective, and "must have" games come out every other week, at least in someone's eyes.

I do agree that the games industry as a whole is less compelling to me personally, but that's just the nature of the demand. In transitioning from niche games appealing to a small but rabid fan base, to a vast market looking for comfortable vanilla flavors something was lost. And that's just the way it is.

I've been thinking about it a lot. Honestly I'm just not a giant fan of motion controls and I think everyone is going to start drifting that direction.

That is the way it is. But I'm not going to accept it and continuing to shell out money to those who don't deserve it. I'd rather spend my spare time playing good games, thank you very much.

I'm going to go both ways. I want to enjoy the new games coming out in the future. At the same time I want to collect and play rare games that I may have missed when I was younger.

I'm doing the exact opposite actually. The 3DS was the first new console I bought (well, actually I bought it used, but it's the newest handheld out). I'm planning on buying the Wii-U after Christmas because the prices will probably go down then.
