Does anyone own this yet? I got it in the mail a few days ago and finally got around to playing....and just wow.
Wow a second time before I even explain the first wow.
It's like....the most fluid A-RPG system ever built...with lightning-fast (and intelligently encouraged) member-switching...and a super-efficient weapon crafting/resource collection system (they seriously respawn in like 2 minutes...or the second you change screens). Music is top-notch, as always for this series.
And oh yeah--Nightmare difficulty is NAAAASTY (for us difficulty-lovers). I probably had to attempt the first boss 8 times before I got the pattern down well enough--and even then, I'm pretty sure I lost Dogi towards the end of the battle (it was so hectic I couldn't tell )
So yeah--this game is what 10/10s are made of so far. If you own a PSP and have 30 dollars--buy this. Now. Sell your fingernails/ovaries if you need extra cash...but yeah--it's worth it.
For those that have it--whadya think?

@slap - If you get it--start it on Nightmare difficulty. I know you're a fan of difficulty (as anyone who's seen your almost inhuman trophy collection can attest to ) and this game has it in spades...and not "we're the laziest programmers ever" difficulty like the Chaos-mode GOW 3 stuff...I'm talking real, well-programmed difficulty.

Im like 25+ hours into it and loving it. Dude Im seriously so glad I saw this thread back then and had to pull it back up. Ive got it on the difficulty right below Nightmare, I think its called Brutal and the boss fights are just that, heck I had to reload on one that I fought for like and hour to grind up some and upgrade weapons/armor and still died a few times but loved every minute of it. The Monster Hunter esque fights are literally perfect right along side near everything about this great game.
Oh.... sequel is on its way in the next few months as well
As for the trophies, Stuff has the killer trophy record, have you checked it out lately, its insanity And Ive seen your high scores on the PSN games. Heck I played Astro Tripper for like 5-6 hrs straight one night trying to take down one of your high scores and failed. You are a beast when it comes to shooters!

This is only for PS3 or PSP? I really wish they brought out Ys 3 and 4 on VC...
Sean Aaron ~ "The secret is out: I'm really an American cat-girl." Q: How many physicists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.
This is no Ys of days gone by, this is like a rebuild of the Mana series with a awesome new real time fighting system built into the game. Its fast and frantic and has tons of item to scavenge that can in turn be used to forge better weapons/equipment. Limited supplies makes the boss fights perfect. No pounding items to defeat the beast, you have to learn there attack pattern and fight to the death.....literally. Its awesome!
The combat looks pretty loose I must say. I am disappointed. But maybe it isn`t as bad as it looks.

@Ravage - yeah i gotta say the loose comment makes absolutely no sense, esp. after that video. That said--it puts every single other ARPG i've played to shame (pitiful shame). It's just entirely too amazing/fluid to even compare--it might as well be its own genre. If anything, the combat is a bit TOO fluid (regular enemies just get decimated in no time due to the sheer attacks-per-minute ratio in this game.
@BedCommando - you probably should've said more....because that meant nothing. If that's a reference to this game being equal/subpar when compared to circa-1998 games...well, play it first. I doubt you'll feel that way. And if you have and still do, well, you have awful, awful taste. No other way to phrase it--if you don't like this game, you have bad taste--plain and simple.
Glad this topic/game got some attention. It deserves it. I played Kingdom Hearts: Birth By (boredom) sleep the other day and the battle system is almost laughable by comparison. Same with Crisis Core--I really enjoyed it the first time, but I started it up the other day and was so unbelievably sluggish I found it hard to enjoy myself.

Yeah, Ys has a way of ruining games you used to like through comparison. I seriously need to pick game up. I love the series, and this could be the best one yet!
@Jesus - you and me both. It's definitely a console that requires careful release-monitoring....DS is a much easier console to find good games for. Still...there's nothing quite like a great PSP game

Well a certain game came out in November of '98, and still holds the highest rating to this very day, as well as more "Best Game Of All Time" awards than any other game. Ringing any bells?

@swerd.... i appreciate the heads up on the game. It truly is one of the best games I've played and considering I've been gaming for 25 years that's saying something.

a better game came out 2 years later, get over your 90s nostalgia already
/sigh more people singing the praises of Ocarina of Time... A decent game that has turbo-boring combat with little expected of you. Ys 7 comes out ahead in my book--I like combat/bosses that keep me awake.
@Swerd.... agreed here as well, and comparing Zelda to Ys is like comparing a Apple to a Raisin lol.
...and Im sorry but if your in here dissing Ys7 you clearly havent played it. If this was a Wii retail copy these forums would be exploding with Ys7 everywhere, honestly I dont see why it hasnt released on Wii to be honest.
