I know mobile platforms get a lot of guff, but if you dig through the dirt, there are always gems to find (as the Wii taught us, a platform's worth isn't determined by it's worst titles, despite their numbers). My list may be a bit dated (my iPod Touch died in 2011), but I hope others can find fun in these titles, or even share their own favorites.

10. N.O.V.A. - I never actually beat this one, which is why it's so low, but it had quite high production values for a mobile title, and it was a quite fun classic style FPS.

9. Action Hero - Normally I'm not into runners (not being captivated by Jetpack Joyride or Temple Run), but for some reason this one resonated with me (maybe it's the fact that you can actually attack certain obstacles). You're running on top of a train (kind of an old west feel), with an up swipe to jump, down swipe to duck, and tap to punch. It also has a bevy of achievements to keep you playing.

8. Paper Toss - This is the very definition of a time waster, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Your goal is to toss a wad of paper into a trash can, and it grips you with that "just one more time" mentality.

7. Spikey's Bounce Around - This is a "flinging" game that features around fifty levels. Your goal is to fling your character around a stage (avoiding obstacles along the way) collecting all the butterflies within (you also have a limited amount of bounces, that change, depending on level).

6. Samurai: Way of the Warrior - This is a hack & slash title, set in ancient Japan. It features fully polygonal 3D graphics (uses an art style similar to Okami) in an overhead camera. It gets a bit repetitive as time goes on (as is common for the genre), but it uses a control scheme suited for the platform, and I had fun with it.

5. :SHIFT: - This is a fun little puzzle platformer, and despite having a more traditional control scheme, they tailored it to this platform quite well, making it work a bit differently than usual. It actually started out as a free Flash game, but I felt that a measly $1 to have it on me at all times was fair.

4. Tetris - It would be awfully hard to mess up Tetris, and sure enough, it works fine here. There's not really much that needs to be said here, other than it's just good ole' fashioned fun.

3. Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles - This is actually a DS port, and while I imagine it would be better on it's original machine, I wouldn't completely count this out. I never felt the touch controls really held me back, and it was a fun puzzle platformer with some action thrown in (not to mention it's full length).

2. Resident Evil: Degeneration - Graphically this may not be that impressive anymore (looks a bit better than a DS game), but don't let that turn you off. While it lacks any sort of blood splatter, it casts you in the role of Leon S. Kennedy as he searches for survivors in a zombie infested airport. You never know what's going to be waiting for you around every corner, and you better think carefully with your limited ammo.

1. Chaos Rings - A JRPG built from the ground up for the platform, it intuitively uses the touch screen controls perfectly, and the production values are top notch, going far beyond what you'd expect from a mobile title. The story has quite a bit of mystery to it, and if you take the time to play as all four teams (each have a unique storyline), you'll finally get to see the big picture.

So, what mobile games have impressed you?

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Ridiculous Fishing - A great port of one of the best games on the iPhone's App Store. Use your phone's gyro capabilities to direct a fishing line as deep into the ocean as it can go, hook as many fish on one line as you can mange, throw them all up in the air, and then brutally murder them with an increasingly wacky assortment of weapons, including but not limited to machine guns, rockets, and satellite death rays.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - One of the best adventure game series of all time is available on the App Store. I don't know what else I could say about this. It's Ace Attorney.

Radiant - My favorite title from Hexage, a decent mobile developer for Android. This is a highly functional and challenging touch-screen version of Space Invaders with multiple campaigns, unlockable weapons, and various difficulties.

Elder Sign: Omens - A highly functional digital version of a very fun Lovecraft-themed board game. Be sure to play this one on a tablet, though. It's too hard to see everything on a phone.

Everlands - Another addictive Hexage game. This is a kind of turn-based strategy game involving animal tiles. It's fully worth the few bucks I paid for it due to its deeply involving gameplay.

Shin Megami Tensei - This is an officially translated version of the Super Famicom release of Shin Megami Tensei. It works pretty darn well, and iti s a classic game. Unfortunately, it's only for the App Store, so my experience with it is limited.

Tanto Cuore - It's a card game where you collect French Maids, with artwork from a variety of Japanese artists. It is, of course, a lot more fun in person, but this is still a perfectly functional version of the game, and it even has online multiplayer! Unfortunately, it's only for the App Store, so my experience with it is limited.

Plague Inc. - You play as a disease, and your goal is to kill everyone on Earth. Various mutation options, such as increased drug resistance or contagiousness, will help you to accomplish your goal. Despite the dark subject matter, the game is a fair bit of fun to play, and it helps you to think about the factors involved in the spread of a contagion.

Uniwar - A fun sci-fi strategy game. Think a grittier version of Advance Wars (although not nearly as gritty as Days of Ruin).

All of them using physical controls. (On a Tablet).

iOS

Super Hexagon
Sonic CD
Crazy Taxi
Knights of the Old Republic
Secret of Mana (Physical Control supported added just recently).
LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Don't usually care about Freemium anything but £7 for the lot or just The Phantom Menace for free is a good deal).
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Still think it is the best one).
Metal Slug 3
Blazing Star
Contra : Evolution (Just add physical control support).

Android (Again Tablet - Physical Controls)

Super Hexagon
Metal Slug X
Sonic CD
Crazy Taxi
Jet Set Radio
Soul Calibur
14px (Dunno how this can be as good as it is even with touch controls).
Virtua Tennis Challenge
Raiden Legacy
Riptide GP2

(No real order to either them cannot really compare different genres like that - For Android I have both a Gametel (Which emulates an Xperia Play which is good for quite a significant amount of stuff) and a Nyko Playpad Pro which seems to work for the rest).

For iOS I have nothing I have preordered the Horipad though. (I trust it will be decent). I have already bought the games but I am not bothered for touch controls.

Check out PewPew if you like twin stick shooters. No ads, and not really a demo. All the stuff in it is also in the sequel, but it very much feels complete as its own game. It's also remarkable that someone figured out how to get a twin stick shooter to work on a touch screen.

Anything in any of the Humble Android bundles is generally pretty good. (And all the IAP's/Ad's are always patched out as as good side effect.)

Duet Premium is in one at the minute and it is pretty good really.

"Note: This bundle also includes unlocked content with this game. 112 stages are unlocked: 49 original story stages, 15 challenge stages and 48 new epilogue stages. In-app purchases and ads are also disabled." - All the stuff is like that. I think I have about 150 of the best Android games from them.

I can't think of a top 10 so I will give as much as I can - The Respawnables is a very fun game, all the Gameloft knock-offs are fun, Temple Run (The Original Infinity Runner), Any SEGA game, Any Capcom Game, Anything made by Triniti Interactive, and a LOT more

Why? Because some people want to talk about games available on mobile devices. What gives you the right to decide what games should be discussed about. This mentality that it's Nintendo or "get out" with a lot of the users on this site that makes NintendoLife a crap place for any meaningful discussion about games.

What's the point of users even making threads about games if it's gonna get shut down by the likes of you?

If it has to use touch or tilt controls then my list changes quite a bit.

World of Goo
Worms 2: Armageddon
The Bard's Tale
Broken Sword (1 or 2 if you have never played them - I had only not played 2 personally)
Swordigo (Against all odds the controls on this are absolutely flawless)
14px
Frozen Synapse
Osmos
SpaceChem
Punch Quest
Machinarium
Toki Tori
Edge (Tilt Controls - much more fun than on the 3DS for me).
The Cave
