Stole this thread from elsewhere because it's a good one. What games were you playing 10 years ago (EXACTLY 10 years ago if possible).

It was 2005 so the GCN had a drought that wouldn't be matched until 2011. So that was when I was probably the most into Smash Bros. Melee. I'm pretty sure I played it every day for like months and months in a row by that point. I even deleted my save just so I could unlock everything again.

Also, I was playing a lot of Advance Wars DS, which is probably my favorite strategy game of all time. I just realized that that series was basically a trilogy (considering how the next game had nothing to do with anything). What an...odd game to choice to do that with. Also that game had a million features, it was crazy.

I can't quit remember everything, but I probably was playing Pokémon Emerald a lot which is still one of my favourite games of the series today and I think it was around the time I got Fire Emblem (7). I never got a GameCube, but often went to my neighbours who had Melee, Star Fox Assault and Custom Robo. I kind of miss those days... Star Fox Assault and Custom Robo's multiplayer was a lot of fun.

Well, my entire summer vacation in 2005 was pretty much spent trying to beat Final Fantasy X and then Final Fantasy VII. The latter might have bled into early September, but I can't remember for sure.

Well it was long before I got back into PC games, and I was only on Nintendo handhelds, so I was probably playing my final GBA games before I got my DS for my birthday. Judging by what was out at the time I probably spent most of my GBA time on Pokemon FireRed. It was great fun back then, and shows how much time has passed since I don't play Pokemon games any more. Good memories though.

It might have been Meteos. I got that game for my birthday, which is almost a month ago, and I had only two other DS games at the time (Super Mario 64 DS and WarioWare: Touched!). I don't remember what I was playing on the GBA slot, GameCube, or PS2.

2005...I was very PC-heavy at that time. I was definitely playing plenty of Hearts of Iron 2. Also, would think I was still hanging on to Empire Earth and C&C Generals.

Nintendo-wise, Advance Wars DS and SM64DS probably got plenty of play-time.

...My memory sucks, probably was playing what all the other kids were playing those days. One of those Atari games or something.

I had just gotten Kirby Air Ride around this time in '05. Good times were had.

I missed the GCN entirely during its time. I also missed the N64, so 10 years ago I was probably still playing my SNES, DS Phat and the occassional Playstation 1.

Games I was playing were probably Megaman X, Super Mario All Stars, Kirby Super Star, Mario 64 DS, and Megaman X4. And Sunset Riders.

And also that A Bug's Life game for the PS1. I enjoyed that for some reason.

Mostly games for Nintendo consoles so like: Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, 007 (Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, Everything or Nothing), Lord of the Rings (The Two Towers, Return of the King, The Third Age), Pokémon Colosseum, Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pokémon Sapphire, Metroid Prime, Mario Kart DS, Tomb Raider PS1 games.

I definitely feel that the GameCube had the strongest 3rd party lineup of any Nintendo console.

Well in 2005 I was too skint to get a new-gen console, so I had to stick with the Dreamcast back then.
In June 2004 I got my first debit card, and that opened up the possibility to get the games online - more specifically from overseas. So 2004/2005 was probably all about getting the Dreamcast games I couldn't get before. The beauty of it was that they used to get sold for peanuts.

There's an event that allows me to backtrack exactly what I was playing in September 2005 though!! I went to Benicassim, Spain to see a music festival with my friends that year (4th-8th of August). A few days after the festival we had to go to Valencia so we could take the plane back to Rome. Exploring the city we found a shop that sold a lot of various second-hand stuff - clothes, furniture, records and even had some games. It was there that I bought Crazy Taxi 2 and Project Justice for Dreamcast. So in September I was probably playing these two games.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

Hmm... if I can remember correctly, I had a GameCube, some GBA systems, an original RROD Xbox 360 and a Phat DS. Except for the X360, we had loads of games for each system (we didn't have an Xbox 360 memory card, so we didn't really bother buying more games for the system. Thank goodness for hard drives)

God first.

What I was most likely playing: Black and White 2, Dungeon Siege 2, Doom 3, Fable The Lost Chapters, GTA San Andreas, LEGO Star Wars, KOTOR 2, Stubbs the Zombie, The Sims 2, X3 Reunion. + games released prior to 2005

Was pretty much limited to PC

I wouldn't say the GCN had a drought. It wasn't getting as many games as PS2, but it still got most of the major 3rd party games, and had 1st party games with a handful of 3rd party exclusives, as well.

In 2005, I was playing Four Sword Adventures, RE4, Starfox: Assault, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Melee, RE0 and REmake, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Tales of Symphonia, Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Mario 64 DS, Wario Ware Touched, Minish Cap, etc. games I already had before. I was basically playing all the major games on all Nintendo systems. GCN games and accessories were on major discount at GameStop, because of PS2 dominance around this time, so a lot of the games people are charging ridiculous amounts for online were way cheaper. That's why I was playing all the previously released games. Wavebirds were $10 each if you did the buy 2 get 1 deal at GS, and no one cared.
No one went crazy about GCN stuff until after Wii was around. I wouldn't say it really matters anymore, though.
I also played the Guitar Hero 2, Lost Planet, and Gears of War demo, because Xbox 360 was new(I didn't have one until Reach came out) and everyone was going nuts about Xbox graphics.

The Gamecube didn't have a drought as terrible as the Wii U - it had a lot of games that were overlooked because everyone and their granny was crazy for the PS2 since it had a DVD player. As @SCAR said, when people got the Wii they realized the hidden gems in the console. Well, I don't remember exactly, but I know I had Zelda WW, Mario Kart Double Dash, SSB Melee, Zelda Four Swords Adventure, Paper Mario... My brother had the Star Wars and LOTR games, plus Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. I also had my GBA, and I really don't remember... But I know I had my Pokemon Fire Red copy and played the crap out of it. Such good memories...

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
