More and more this machine is starting to feel like the true successor to the legacy of the Playstation 2. It'd be perfect for me if they'd launch Playstation Classics support for it like they did with the PS3.

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (SD)

Just saw Arkham Knight is £55 on the PSN Store here. That's what we call "No". Dark day when a special edition of a Nintendo title is cheaper.

Now Playing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Crash Bandicoot 4

Now Streaming: Sonic Lost World, Just Cause 3

@Ralizah: I agree, particularly in terms of Japanese RPG support. Lots of great games to look forward too. Hopefully it will get PS1 and PS2 classics support but I've a feeling they'll rely on PS NOW.

@Volcanox: Why not just buy physical online? Digital games are always more expensive than retail versions on all platforms.

It felt that way to me when I first started it up when I got mine on launch day. For some reason the PS3 never grabbed my attention and I was a huge fan of the PS One and PS2. Taking hold of the DS4 for the first time and playing Resogun reminded me why I enjoyed the PS One and 2 so much.

@Tasuki: I'm not seeing it yet. The library isn't grabbing me the same way the PS1 and PS2 grabbed my 2/6 year old self. It might change in time but the PS4 is consciously aiming at a different demographic. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not as appealing to me. Might change who knows but the strengths of the PS1 and PS2 was it hit all groups really fast. The PS4 is going mature/shooter/horror and leaving the slack to the occasional indie or taking its time to get the more colourful games like Ratchet and Clank out as budget titles.

Just a quick question. Amazon.de has the 1TB model up for just €299.00. I don't know how long that offer is going to last, so a quick reply would be really welcome!

I assume that all European PS4 systems are the same [in terms of UI, language options, etc.). I know that a lot of games in Germany are translated to German and don't always include English language options, but I'd imagine that this wouldn't be the case for consoles, am I correct?

Haruki_NLI

@Octane: It's a good ish deal. An EU price cut proper wont happen though, at least not soon.

I don't think Language factors into the console. You do have language options when setting it up.

@Volcanox: Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought, but I just wanted to be sure. Just ordered my PS4 and a copy of Tearaway, can't wait until it arrives.

That's the Mortal Kombat X story mode done. Screw Shinnok, plus he's boring. XD

@Volcanox: Yeah I am not big on Shinnok either. I still need to finish the story mode though but I kept getting distracted with the other modes. Particularly playing test your luck mode with my son. Lol

@Octane: My friend took advantage of that offer too, knowing that he does not have to pay anything extra due to having a 'fees free' credit card for buying within mainland Europe.

It costed him £222.70 plus a tiny 3% customs fee that he chose to pay to avoid any possible charges when the box arrives here in the UK.

That's an absolutely brilliant deal. Probably the best you can get at this moment in time!

Enjoy Tearaway Unfolded; it is so good that it abruptly ceased me from playing Metal Gear Solid V for the time being. It is a vividly eye-poppingly visual feast too, and the paper mechanics are a joy.

I also think Sony have (already) got a very diverse first party line-up too, rather than just shooting and racing, shooting and racing:

Killzone - a FPS
Knack - an action/brawler platformer
inFAMOUS - a superhero action/adventure
Driveclub - a social racing game
LittleBigPlanet - a platformer on a 2D/3D plane with a 'play, share, create' community vibe
The Order - a cinematic third-person shooter
Bloodborne - a fast paced action/horror game
Until Dawn - a horror game with variable outcomes and consequences
Tearaway Unfolded - a charming paper-based platformer with unique gameplay mechanics
Uncharted Collection - arguably the best (last generation) trilogy remastered in 1080p/60fps

I'm beginning to see similarities to the PSone years, especially after the most recent Tokyo Games Show which revealed an abundance of RPGs and new titles in longstanding franchises. I believe the PlayStation 4 will really hit its stride from 2016 onwards, starting with the likes of No Man's Sky and Uncharted 4.

@Peek-a-boo: Yeah, it's a pretty good deal. It's a lot better than the regular €400/£300 price. I was planning to wait until the holiday sales in late November/December, but I decided to get it whilst I still could. I wanted to play Tearaway for a while now, and in the meantime I also ordered the Journey Collector's Edition. Anyway, there's plenty of great games still to come; Dragon Quest Heroes comes out in a week or two and Gravity Rush is set for early 2016 as well.

@Peek-a-boo:
The problem with that list is outside Bloodborne and inFamous I wouldn't say there's a truly great game. Tearaway is very good but it's a Vita port, Until Dawn is good but it''s also one that eventhough there's many endings it's really a chore to go through more than once. The PS2, in large part because of third parties, was full of excellent exclusives. PS4 has a lot of great multiplats so that counts for something but it still hasn't hit its stride in exclusives. I expect that will change but right now I'd say the console is more line to be like PS3 where it's remembered as a good system but not a legendary one like the NES, SNES, Genesis, and first two PlayStation consoles.

Gamer83

Octane

@Gamer83: It depends on what you're looking for I think. I never owned a Vita, so Tearaway is still a completely new experience to me. I also like that they're trying to embrace different types of games and even experimental stuff. The focus isn't necessarily on first person shooters, racing and sports simulators anymore.

@Octane:
It's got variety that's for sure. Not all are hits but some turn out and I do give credit for branching out.

Gamer83

Peek-a-boo

@Gamer83: I was going for the abundance of variety, even though not all of those games are 'truly great' as you said so yourself. All ten games (I listed above) are from different genres and each game offers a different experience from one another.

The PlayStation 4 has only been out for 22 months; not even a full two years! It is very early days to be judging whether the system is as good as the PSone and PlayStation 2. Ask yourself again in a couple of years time.

It only took a shy over a 22 months before the PlayStation 4 gets its first official price drop; something that is unheard of in the videogames industry!

Here goes, for US and Canadian citizens:

Untitled

$50 less than before, and before anybody cries foul at the Canadian prices, the dollar is especially weak at the moment and is hardly Sony's fault for keeping the price in line with other countries; US $349 = CAD $455, therefore $429 Canadian dollars is actually lower than today's current exchange rates!

The last - and arguably only - remaining 'battlefield' for Microsoft is going to be even more interesting this Christmas, especially considering they revealed their seasonal line-up this time last week:

Untitled

Sometimes an abundance of a choice isn't necessarily a good thing. Their flagship game, Halo 5, is bundled with a console for $500, which is absurd - I expect the Kinect to be thrown in for that price. The limited edition Star Wars PS4 bundle however is $100 less!

These are crazy (but good) times ahead for US and Canadian shoppers.
