Most disappointing game of the year for me. I still gave it 4/5 because it's still, clearly, a great game, but I expected GOTY, and Elder Scrolls games have been getting progressively worse since Morrowind.

I read your review and I don't see how it could possibly be worse than Oblivion in your eyes...

Simple. It's more vanilla. I'm not a fan of giving vanilla games 10/10

You even said it was a better game than Oblivion in the comments, though. Seriously, what the hell?

It's a better game than Oblivion. It's also far more disappointing as my expectations and bethesda's promises for Skyrim were higher.

It's Demon Souls/ Dark Souls all over again. I grow tired of this mass market crap these great developers are pushing out. It doesn't mean they are 'bad' games. It does mean they are, on a sliding scale for someone who has played them all, the least interesting.

So basically it has nothing to do with the games themselves, just you and your stupid expectations? So why did you say the series was going downhill then, huh?

Well if it doesn't match his expectations then it is going downhill in his opinion...

didn't know demo/dark souls was mass marketed. thought it was one of those underrated gems that was successful due to the word of mouth.

I found every game Bethesda has come out with this year to be disappointing review wise. Except Skyrim of course. But Rage was supposed to be another Doom and Brink was supposed to be a successful genre innovator.

Load screens. I hate them. 125+ hours into this game and I think 93 hours have been spent staring at load screens. How is it I can walk across the entire province of Skyrim without a single load screen but I can't walk one door over in the Thieves Guild?

@Bethesda When I "fast travel" to a town or place, why do I have to watch a load screen only to be dumped right OUTSIDE of the place where I wanted to fast travel, take 2 steps to the door, and then go through ANOTHER load screen to get inside.

If someone has a PS3 version, could you tell me if it has a serious lagging problem? People are talking that after the save file has gone above 6 MB, the game starts lagging and freezing, and eventually become unplayable. I'm interested to know since i'm planning to get the PS3 version.

He's just complaining that they're slightly more forgiving and hopeful than the King's Field series, which were exceedingly dark and masochistic.

Buddy of mine was telling me that the problem was worse than New Vegas. However, the last patch pretty well fixed it for him.

For those PS3 Skyrim owners Bethesda has offered a few suggestions:

-Turn off auto saves. This can cause temporary stuttering since the PS3 saves these files in the background. This is most noticeable with large saves when fast traveling to a new area or entering a new area that auto saves.

  • Clear space on your hard drive. Skyrim makes heavy use of the hard drive, and freeing up space on here seems to help many people. Hard drive speeds also differ in PS3 models. Some users have reported increase performance by upgrading their drives.
  • Waiting for time to pass. Many things are running in the world depending on what quests you've done or places you have visited. Using Wait or Rest options, passing time will clear up some of these. It depends how long you wait, it may take up to 30 days for some items. Saving, resetting, and loading after this will have the largest effect.

Wanted to play this game...
But then, I took an arrow in the knee. xD
Ended with Morrowind GOTY instead.

I found the end of the main story line very anti-climatic. Nevertheless, I'm playing again. I'm not sure if things are actually changing because I rolled a different character (Breton Mage) or if I'm doing things differently which results in different occurences in the game does that make sense?

At any rate, I'm noticing differences in this play-through.
