I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Depending on the breaks.

At the risk of opening a can of worms here, what exactly was wrong with the news article itself? Just curious.

Nothing is actually wrong with the article at all, its just this site keeps on promoting Sony vs Nintendo hate on the main page over and over and its fueling the fire in the forums really badly. We just had a incredible E3 showing and there is so much Nintendo info all over the net right now, this site dropping to fueled hate comments one after the other over these dumb "Sony said this but lets stretch the meaning to make it sound worse than what it is" keeps on happening. Why? There is no use for it, and its ruining this site in my opinion.

3D Gaming/TV brings a lot of skepticism around the entire world, and there are many sites that have reported just this. I think the guy simply meant that any promotion on 3D anything will be good for the eachother. Not work together, just get more people to see the benefits of 3D Gaming.

I agree Slapshot. The community here is supposed to be its strong point yet silly things like this make me wonder.

I still think that you guys are being over sensitive. It's not about promoting Sony hate (although some people will surely jump on that bandwagon), but about how silly and self-serving their PR and interview comments consistently are.

Get over it, and don't worry what fanboys on a Nintendo-based site think about Sony.

my point was that diving head-first into the whole 'here, watch me swear fealty to Nintendo by dogging the hell out of everything Sony/Microsoft say and do' fanboy mentality does nothing but make you look like a moron and annoy everyone who tries to hold an honest discussion with you. i thought that's where you were going with this topic, lol... it just doesn't make sense to parrot whiny, spiteful fanboy BS all the time, because without strong opponents attempting to outdo Ninty at their own game, they'll get complacent, and things will begin to stagnate. Not a good thing :3

Nintendo gives silly PR statements too. If they said something similar, there'd be no ridiculous comments.

And my middle name is 'not get over it'. That's how it's written on my birth certificate.

Thanks for explaining your point. ejamer pretty much nailed it. When it comes to stories like this we don't really see it as trying to throw fuel on the Sony vs Nintendo fanboy fire; in this case it was a kind of funny quote from a Sony exec complaining about how he wished Nintendo would ease up on the glasses bit.

Considering we're a site with an emphasis on one of the hardware makers, it's inevitable that a certain portion of our readership will skew a certain way. I'm sure if you visit any other website solely dedicated to Sony or Microsoft then you'll find their readership to be similar to our own. Compared to a multiplatform site or forum like Gamespot or NeoGAF, sure, we've got less balance in that regard, but that's just par for the course.

If you do have concerns with the editorial direction or constructive comments, please voice them. Everyone on staff reads the comments and forums so you will be heard. We would rather hear someone explain why they found something written to be poor instead of just "this sucks."

@Alex: if you're prone to bouts of screaming 'ZOMG (insert company here) IS COPYING NINTENDO, NINTY DID EVERYTHING FIRST AND IS THE BESTEST EVAR!!!1', like some people around here, then yes, i did call you both.
but i know you're not, so obviously, i did not

edit: wait, are you talking about articles or people's reactions to them? i read the OP as complaining about the userbase/NL at large, not the articles, but after reading through Panda's latest comment, i'm thinking you meant the articles themselves. if so, lol, my bad for the confusion :3

Yours?

It's sensationalised. What you've done (and this is a common complaint I have about NintendoLife's news pieces - and I have said as much in the past) is that you've taken some raw quotes, inserted a hell of a lot of subjective opinion, and hidden it under the guise of "news".

It's not, it's an opinion piece, and were you working for a publication that had a formally-trained editor, you would be required to back up your opinions better, and put "opinion" in the headline.

Yoshida admitted at the time of the interview that he hadn't yet tried the 3DS for himself. We somehow doubt that it would change anything, though.

Stuff like that has no place whatsoever in a news piece. A news piece is (or at least, should be - journalism today isn't what it used to be) a straight reporting of the facts.

If you do want to get opinion into a news piece, than great. Get some comment from a professional, or analyst, to actually say the opinion. For instance, this line:

so it's hardly surprising that the company selling 3D televisions that require glasses isn't too pleased with Nintendo's E3 presentation comments about how the glasses are awkward and make you look silly.

A journalist shouldn't be making that statement. If the journalist wants to get that opinion into the piece (which is fine), he/ she needs to find someone willing to go on record to say that.

I love NintendoLife for its community and its reviews, which are for the most part, really well done and clean pieces. But it is painfully obvious that you guys need to take some crash courses on news journalism. The rules around blogs are slightly different, but nothing about Nintendolife suggests "blog," so what is expected from you guys is proper news journalism.

@Panda.... actually Ive never been one to just scream and rant. Im also one of the oldest forum members here to my knowlege lol. I know that there are many younger gamers here and to a point its to be expected as it would any site. I actually only frequent one Playstation Blog daily with very few comments as I really get very annoyed with the console bashing/ranting etc. I did own all the systems as I recently sent the 360 on its way (lack of time for all three systems, family all have PS3s). My biggest concern is that it seems we are getting more Main Page Articles like this one that draw big hate debates and so many little hit and miss articles here and there. Then of course our big Nintendo articles on AAA games we come here for, but at times get flooded in all the hit or miss articles lately that draw VERY FEW comments from any user here.

These articles really started up with the starting of Move and Sonys commercials, wich to me as gamer of all systems and a fan of Sony and Nintendo and have a sense of humor, I think its just funny and competive and the bottom line its buisness. Sony aims to please an older audience and always have.

Move is aimed at some younger of course (can you blame them for jumping on the bandwagon?) Possible though they might intergrate Move into some games for core older gamers as well though. Nintendo on the otherhand is aimed at the whole family and reasonable cost. This in turn ends up with lots of younger gamers (just like we were once) playing and owning nothing but the affordable system as the parents buy it usually. I think we are finding lots of these younger gamers here on NL now. They own what they were bought and are huge Nintendo fans and when these articles pop up its only natural to start a war. I was a young guy with a family that didnt have much money once and defended Nintendo to the death as well and I know how it feels. I feel like its unhealthy for the site, but maybe its just me. I do see it flooding the forums. You never saw anyone posting anything like what we are now seeing in most every thread in Other Gaming about ANYTHING that isnt Nintendo. NL used to be this big almost family like forum where you had gamers that played maybe just Nintendo but lots of us play all/some of the other system, but we all found common middle ground. Now its not the case anymore and I think these articles are the main basis for the issue. NL in the last few months has had a massive shift in its forums, and you see many of us posting less and less around here, and lots of us that have been around for over a year or so seem to constantly end up in these stupid debates over and over.

Maybe its just me, actually I know its not because I see Adam and Alex Says posting way differently from what they did just six months ago. Mostly frustrated post over fanboys and there rants. I just think fueling the fire isnt helping this site or the community in anyway.

I agree with this. I find the same thing here as well. Anyone other than a Nintendo makes a statement that is critical of Nintendo the statement gets chopped and opinionated and turned into something its not. Then its posted as a main page article here and my statement above should make it clear how I feel about it as well. You can in turn go to a multi-console site and read there articles on the same statement and its nowhere near what NL has made it out to be. Every single on of the articles here get tons of comments and most every comment is fanboy fueled hate. Where is the good in that for this site? I dont see it as professional journalisim either. This is a site that is easily found and the reviews are on metacritic.com and people come here and see it. It makes NL look biased and uncredible.

Please note that I don't think it's a problem if NintendoLife is somewhat biased - that's to be expected from a Nintendo-centric site, and readers would expect as such.

The problem is the source of commentary. In a news piece there should be no opinion expressed by the journalist. It takes a bit more research, and/ or getting on the phone with an analyst/ spokesperson, but the only opinions that are in news pieces should be from sources.

If the journalist wishes to then express a particular opinion, then great, he just needs to find the right quote.

Adam

Well, at least you were aware of the possibility of opening a can of worms.

It's just an article about a guy talking about video games. I don't see how anyone can take that so seriously. Anyone who reads the opinion lines as news is going to do that no matter if it says "opinion" or "news" in the headline because that person cannot possibly be very bright.

I for one like the writers' little comments. They turn what would otherwise be a borderline interesting quote from a company most people here don't care about into something amusing.

Any fan site is going to have "fan boys." What's a NIntendo forum without the occasional Orlick? They provide comedic relief. This whole issue seems to be getting blown out of proportion.

Come on, friends,

I was under the impression that NintendoLife wanted to present itself as something authoritative when it comes to Nintendo news.

I certainly believe that is why NintendoLife has advertisers and dedicated servers. As such, it is behoven that a site existing under the veneer of professionalism behave professionally.

No one said you had to follow my advice, but the question was asked, and I responded. I personally didn't put myself through four years of professional writing to appreciate poor journalistic practices.

Also, Adam, I'm not saying NintendoLife should stop opinion pieces entirely, but rather, for its own good if nothing else, what is opinion should be marked more clearly, and a journalist's opinions should always have some kind of concrete support. The world of business is a dangeous one to navigate. We regularly undertake refresher courses to make sure we don't do anything that can get us sued.

Nah I meant the people.

I thought Panda was talking about the IGN article and agreeing with me, so that shows how much I'm understanding my own thread. lol
