I was thinking about it. What's special about it? I know there are planes and land vehicles, so I'm wondering if it's just like Warhawk, in which case I'll just stick with that. Obviously the mere existence of vehicles is not enough to say two games are exactly alike though. Sure wish there was a demo.

Hey Adam, there actually is a demo for Battlefield 1943! I tried it out last week and it was pretty fun! You should check it out! |

I am behind the times. I must have overlooked it, not knowing what it was. Time to correct my errant ways. See you on the battlefield. EDIT: This is very fun, and I'm surprisingly good at it! At least in the one match I played. I usually suck at FPS. I do suck at driving vehicles though. I crashed the plane within ten seconds of taking off, literally, haha. What awfully confusing controls. Playing as a scout is a lot of fun. I got six kills before my first death. Maybe it was just a bunch of other demo players in the game? I'll probably purchase it when my trial runs out, so if anyone else has it and wants to play some time, let me know. It seems like it would be very Warhawkish, but it also seems like almost no one knows how to use the vehicles, so it turns into a more standard FPS game, at least in my one game experience. I don't like Warhawk yet I like Battlefield. I suck at the airplane too. I'm almost positive there's something the instructions aren't telling me. And I have no idea whether demo players are just playing other demo players. Edited on Sat 18th July, 2009 @ 05:36 by AlexSays |

Then you're probably just playing with other demo-ers, because in the few games I've played, there have been some amazing pilots. A few guys really tear up the other team with a plane, to the point we've had everyone on an AA gun trying to shoot it down. Edited on Sat 18th July, 2009 @ 05:38 by AlexSays |

Or maybe the other guys were just very good at the AAs and I didn't notice? Trying to salvage some pride here. |

That's a possibility. I don't know how people shoot down planes though. The reticule is very tiny and the plane is... well... being a plane. |

@Corbie.....Motorstorm PR is leaps and bounds better than the original. Tracks are better designed and more diversity in the vehicles and they control better. I would highly recommed it. The trophies are really difficult to get though. My wife loves it. Its one of the few PS3 games she plays. Im not a big fan of violent games but I just scored Gran Theft Auto 4 for PS3 used for 4.99 USD. Yeah so I bought it and going to try it out later. I figured Id get a few trophies at least and blow a few things up so definately worth 5 bucks |

I played Red Faction and yawned myself to sleep....dunno why, just didn't do anything whatsoever for me. I'm still playing Infamous. Enjoying every minute of this game. btw: PSN: Swerd_Murd and Cross Edge is rad. A buddy picked it up last week--if you spend some time and figure out the various systems, it's excellent. All NIS games have that accessibility issue--once you break through the learning wall (read: curve in most other cases) the games get pretty cool, Cross Edge being one of the coolest I've seen/played a bit. How people play FPSes as crazy as Battlefield is beyond me. I absolutely do not understand how you develop the chops. I second the AA reticule comment--I actually laughed as soon as I got in. It makes me mad, as I LOVE the competitiveness these games bring out and they're fun, graphically awesome....I just need to be better so they aren't always so disappointing. I can dodge swarms of 2D bullets all day in the craziest patterns imaginable, but the 3D shooting/dodging? |

If the learning wall is the only problem, how does it compare with Disgaea 3 (or any Disgaea if you haven't played that one)? I started playing that one a couple weeks ago, and only recently felt like I understood most of it, but it was too compelling not to keep plugging away even when I was clueless. |

Ah, I actually started playing Killzone 2 again today. The online multiplayer is more addicting than COD4's, to me. SilentJ wrote:
It's LOADS of fun, unless you're weird like that Swerd guy! I can see where someone would think it was boring though. I think it's one of those games that are really fun to just experience once for a short while, which is why I'm glad I rented it. I won't buy it. |

@Adam Not familiar with Disgaea 3....1 wasn't too bad, although figuring out exactly how the whole item-world concept worked (and how not to simply take forever and a half doing...everything) took longer than average. Honestly Luke would know better than myself. The first night he had it (prob put 3-4 hours in), he liked, not loved it. By the time he got online the next day during work, he'd been thinking about it literally the entire morning and was barking random facts about the game and telling me how cool it was all day. He tends to have spot-on taste in games too. If you slogged through Disgaea 3 I can't imagine you having anything but love for this game....it's just so much faster and the sprite work really is top notch. I love my 2D (HURRY UP MURAMASA!!!!) @AlexSpouts I honestly can't refute that I'm weird. I can however publicly decry Red Faction. I can walk around my house knocking over my plates and breaking them, but it doesn't hold my attention any longer than Red Faction. Basically, my issue with it is that, like you said, it seems like a rental and nothing more. It's fun to destroy some buildings, then you find yourself yawning and reaching for Infamous again. Killzone however is phenomenal, but you must understand my FPS experience. Let me see if I can walk you through it, usind World at War split-screen co-op. "Who are we shooting?" Every single one I play. It's like everyone else has 2 eyes, and I have a circa-1950s Polaroid Camera lodged in the middle of my forehead that's angled slightly to the left. Then that same gamer tries to co-op with me in Dragon Blaze and I poop rainbow shmup ownage while my cohort runs into a bullet literally the second he comes out of respawn every time. |

@Swerd_Murd: So 3D shooters aren't your forte, but 2D shmups are. Nothing weird about that, just different. Honestly, I'm not so good at either, but I'm somewhat less bad at the 3D shooters, and practice will definitely lead to more improvement with those than with the shmups. |

That doesn't satisfy my frustration though. I need to be good at them! I'm pretty darn good at every other genre and game type on every console....3d shooters just ownface me... One day...Swerd Murd will sit high atop the collective High Score board of the FPS world and play Space Invaders in full view of it cackling. |

I'm the same way. I've never been good at an FPS except on Nintendo systems, for some reason, but I really wish I could at least be decent at one PS3 FPS. I still enjoy them despite how awful I am, except Killzone, where I don't even know what's going on. Also, um... who's Luke? I guess I'll give Cross Edge a try if I find it cheap somewhere. Bought too many games lately, and got too many others to buy this year. It's too bad the games I want to try never seem to be at Blockbuster and don't have demos. |

Killzone is intense, no doubt. Sometimes you don't even wait until you see an actual enemy, you have to just start shooting once you see the little green light coming from the ISA or the red from the Helghast's eyes. For some reason though I'm okay at Killzone but terrible at Battlefield. My KDR in Killzone is 1.40 and in Battlefield it's like 0.5. I guess I've played Killzone a lot longer though, so I've had more time to recover from the first hour or so online where I was killed every two seconds. But Battlefield still seems harder for some reason. |
