Topic: Microsoft Marketing Question

Microsoft knows they have an Xbox One to sell, right?

Lately, I've seen a fair amount of Xbox One ads with an even amount of Xbox 360 ads.

I just want to know why they're marketing the 360 when the One just came out. They're not just marketing it, though, they're marketing bundles and the lower price point as well.

If your new system costs upwards of $500 and only has a few games out, why market your old system while also mentioning it's vast library and lower price point?

I know the Xbox One isn't in danger of selling units and I know the 360 is still getting new games not playable on the One, but it's a little confusing to me.

Not as confusing as no Wii U ads up until now, but confusing nonetheless.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

Not at all, MS are catering to people with different levels of disposable income. If people can't afford a Xbox one yet MS doesn't want them picking up a PS3 or Wii U just because they are affordable.

The library for Xbox 360 is much better than the Xbox ones right now so someone who is looking for their first console may lean towards a X360 since its not too much of an investment. If the do then MS can build brand loyalty and eventually those owners of 360 will pick up the Xbox one further down the line.

Xbox live is where MS makes their money off the xbox brand so x360 or Xbox one they still get an additional subscription.

Because they are separate products that can both sell. It's similar to Nintendo's strategy with Wii and Wii U. Pretty soon both old systems will fade eventually

Because the vast majority of gamers are still using 7th gen consoles.

The answer is quite simple. Microsoft said that there is still plenty of life in the 360. So if that's what they said then why is it strange that they are marketing it then?

Agreed. Xbox One is sold for people stupid enough to buy a console at launch and for people who are completely oblivious to anything Microsoft has done in the past year or so!

To be honest I don't think most people care either way. I mean the DRM issue is pretty public and I still know people who don't know its been reverse. It says a lot about the general populace that the Xbox One launch was better than the Wii U's a year ago. The people I know with the system have been singing the praises of the system between games, UX, and overall non gaming functions.

But I'm pretty sure you were being Partly tounge in cheek.

Yea ... no confusion here: the 360 is still profitable for them.

MS still plans to support the 360 for few more years so why just drop all the advertising now?

I'n only questioning it because the 360 doesn't really need more advertisement.
With 70 million+ systems out, word of mouth is already spread.
In every game store, the 360 has it's own wall.
New games would already say they were out for the 360.
I'm only saying that there is plenty of stuff out there for the 360 already. If anything it's the One that needs the push (again, not really, but you know what I mean).

They need to get rid of them and also like others said, they can still make money off of them.
