Have another one for ya Street Fighter II. To date I have the following versions
Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES)
Super Street Fighter II (SNES)
Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition (Sega Genesis)
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (PS2)
And if you want to count them since they are included
Street Fighter II, SF II: Champion Edition, SF II Hyper Fighting (PS2 included in the Capcom Greatest Hits Collections 1&2).
RetiredPush Square Moderator and all around retro gamer.
The only Street Fighter II I have is a Super Famicom copy of Super SF2.
Though (I think it was this game) I learned a while ago they changed some of the music between the US version (though this was after I bought the SFC version must because it was cheaper). I forgot now which was better. (some songs of course, but for some reason one was in worse quality than the other)
Just about every game I own on Virtual Console I owned in a physical copy at one time in my life.
I also purchased Animal Crossing New Leaf twice. First on a cart, sold, and repurchased in digital.
Lately I've been purchasing a few GBA games on the virtual console even though I already owned the cartridge. I still have an original GBA to play them on, but it just feels better to play some of those games on the gamepad. It's probably because of the larger d-pad compared to the GBA.
I don't have to justify myself to you, but I will provide a little explanation: I've got young kids and it looked like a game we could get some fun out of together, so I bought a used copy on ebay. It turned up and the disc looked pretty ropey in terms of scratches, but I popped it in my Wii and it played fine. I played an hour or so of it and once I understood the unlocking nature of it I realised that , indeed, it could be some fun for my little kids to play and learn some musical basics (timing etc.). The next day I went to boot it up again and my drive made a horrible noise and wouldn't play it. Raging at being ripped-off I ordered another copy from ebay. Then I found out it wasn't the disc that was the problem, but that my drive was ****ed (I'd done a bit of backup play and have subsequently found out that backup discs dramatically decrease the life of the drives in a Wii). So now I have 2 working copies of Wii Music. Still haven't actually got round to trying with the kids tho...
The only other duplicate I have is Assassin's Creed 2 on PC. I'd put it on my Amazon wishlist, but when I saw it come up cheap on Steam I figured that no-one pays attention to my wishlists and just went ahead and bought the Steam version (forgetting to take it off my wishlist immediately). Lo and behold, come Christmas, my brother gives me a disc version of the game!
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Street Fighter Collection - PlayStation
Street Fighter II: World Warriors - SNES, Wii U
Street Fighter II - Game Boy
Street Fighter II Turbo - SNES, Wii, Wii U
Super Street Fighter II - SNES, Wii, Wii U
Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival - GBA, Wii U
Hyper Street Fighter II - PlayStation 2
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix - XBOX 360
But remasters and games on virtual consoles? No way. I don't buy games twice, ever.
I prefer to play my games on as fewer consoles as possible. I don't want all my past consoles hooked up to my TV so yes, I will download Virtual Console games I already own. Plus save states, suspend features, Game Pad controls are quite appealing to me. Out of the above games, I only play those on Wii U and XBOX 360 now. I've not touched the others for years and years. I think I've sold all the cartridges I used to own. What are your habits for playing old games?
I've been going through my list of GBA/DS/Wii/Wii U games and I happen to double-dip a lot more often than I gave myself credit for...
The Sims 2 (PC, Mobile, DS, GBA) All of the games were different except that they shared the same name. I was a complete Sims freak at the time though. The Sims 2: Pets/The Sims: Pet Stories (PC, Mobile, DS, Wii, PC) Couldn't find the GBA version at a reasonable price otherwise I would have bought that too. The Sims: Pet Stories on PC was basically a "lite" version of The Sims 2 which combines The Sims 2 and some elements from some of the expansion packs available at the time (especially The Sims 2: Pets). It includes some exclusive items and interactions that are not available in any of The Sims 2 games though (however they share the same engine, graphics and gameplay). The Sims 2: Castaway/The Sims: Castaway Stories (DS/Wii/PC) Different games with similar themes/settings. The Simpsons Game (DS/Wii) Identical plot (except the Wii version has more levels/cutscenes), and the DS version is a side-scroller while the Wii game is a 3D platformer. In terms of controls and gameplay, the DS version is the better game. Theme Park (PC/DS) I had my eye on the DS version, but didn't feel like paying a premium for a game I own a superior version of on another platform. My mum surprised me by buying it for me though, and I quite enjoyed the DS version (and I eventually completed it). Mario Kart DS (DS/Wii U) The Wii U launch discount was too tempting to resist. Mr. Bean/Mr. Bean's Wacky World of Wii (DS/Wii) Like The Simpsons Game, these are very similar games and they have identical visuals and audio. And like The Simpsons Game, the DS version is a side-scroller while the Wii version is a 3D platformer, and also like The Simpsons Game, the 3D platformer controls are very, very poor, making the DS version the superior game byfar (even if the game is overwhelmingly underwhelming ). Miami Nights: Singles in the City/Miami Nights: Life in the Spotlight (DS/DSi) Judging by gameplay alone, both games are identical, however, the first game was a retail release with a 3D engine (as poor as the graphics were), while the DSi game was download-only and had visuals that were on par with the mobile phone version that was released before it (with colourful, cartoonish 2D visuals). They share many of the same locations, interactions and audio. Wolfenstein 3D (PC/iOS) The iOS version was really cheap. Pokémon main series (DS/3DS) I generally buy and play through both versions of the main series games when they are released, however, I usually wait a good long while before playing the second version. The Legendary Starfy (DS) It was ridiculously cheap at only $5 in a bargain bin (sealed!). I gave one to my brother. My copy is still in its original shrink wrap, yet to be played. I've been thinking about importing the Japan-only prequels before playing this one. Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia (DS) Another case of the game being too cheap to resist. I gave the other copy to my brother. I'm still yet to play this game and I've gotten to a point where I doubt that I ever will. WarioWare: Touched (DS/Wii U) See Mario Kart DS. WarioWare: D.I.Y. (DS) - I bought this for about AU$60 at launch as I couldn't find it any cheaper. Fast forward two weeks and Dick Smith drops it down to $20. I ended up buying another copy for my brother. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (3DS) - I paid AU$55 (crazy!) for this game at launch. Fast forward a few years and it was available on the eShop for around $5. I double dipped so that I can enjoy local multiplayer. Tetris Party Deluxe/Tetris (DS/3DS) No particular reason other than the fact that I thought that the 3DS version would be better. I regretted buying the 3DS version as it was released on the eShop a week later (and I would have preferred to have the game downloaded to my system as opposed to it needlessly occupying precious shelf space). Balloon Fight (3DS/Wii U) The first was free as part of the 3DS Ambassador promotion, the other was a 30c purchase as part of the Famicom 30th Anniversary promotion. Mario and Yoshi (3DS/Wii) See Balloon Fight. Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) Bought this at launch. Was later offered as a free download when I registered my 3DS Club Nintendo code. Rabbids Go Home (DS/Wii) Bought both for my brother. They must have been cheap. Mighty Switch Force! (3DS/Wii U) Bought it for Wii U when the price dropped to around $2.50 or so. Couldn't resist such a low price. Mighty Switch Force! 2 (3DS/Wii U) Both versions were on sale for about $1.50 each and I couldn't resist. Gunman Clive/Gunman Clive 2 (3DS/Wii U) I'll most likely buy the Wii U version considering how cheap it is, and I'm curious to see how it fares with HD visuals. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (3DS/Wii U) I bought the Wii U version to take advantage of local multiplayer. I had also bought Monster Hunter 3 Tri before this as it was only $30 or so with a pack-in Classic Controller Pro. I was more interested in the CC Pro at the time and I hadn't played Tri at all (the controller alone would have cost me about the same amount anyway). Kirby Triple Deluxe/Kirby Fighters Deluxe/Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe (3DS) Dr. Mario (GB)/Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure (3DS) I would never have bought the Game Boy game if I had known that the latter would be released so soon. Xenoblade Chronicles/Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (Wii/3DS) I hadn't bought it on Wii, but now that it is available on the Wii U eShop, I will most likely buy it at some point in the future. Super Smash Bros. Smash Controller (3DS) While I already have the 3DS game, I thought I'd download this as well considering it was only a little over $1. WarioWare: Smooth Moves (Wii) Bought it ages ago but I found it a couple of years ago for $5 sealed and I couldn't resist double dipping. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption/Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii/Wii U) I bought Metroid 3, didn't play it very much, bought the Trilogy, traded in Metroid 3 and then purchased the Trilogy again when it hit the Wii U eShop. Double Dragon (NES)/Double Dragon (GB) (Wii/Wii U/3DS) I like playing scaled down versions of more sophisticated games on Game Boy. I've actually had more fun with the GB game than its NES brother. Wii Sports Resort (Wii) Bought this ages ago for $50. Fast forward to 2013 and I found two copies at $5 a pop and couldn't resist. Gave one to my brother and the other to my sister. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii/Wii U) Bought the Wii disc, bought it again on the Wii U eShop. Endless Ocean 2 : Adventures in the Deep (Wii) Found it again for $5. Uno (Wii/DSi) Love me a bit of Uno. I wish that a newer, more polished version (ideally with Download Play) would be released on 3DS though. Prince of Persia (GB)/Prince of Persia (SNES) (3DS/Wii) I've enjoyed the Game Boy version more thanks to save slates and the fact that it plays closer to the PC version that I remember best. Need For Speed: Most Wanted U (Wii U/iOS) Paid an embarrassingly high amount for the Wii U version (to support Criterion Games), and paid $1 for the iOS version. Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City (Wii) Found the Wii Speak bundle, new and sealed in a bargain bin for $5. Boom Street (Wii) Found two brand new copies for $5 each. Gave one to my brother. I'm yet to play the game. Resident Evil: Revelations (3DS/Wii U) Enjoyed the 3DS version and I got started on the Wii U version as well. NES Remix/NES Remix 2/Ultimate NES Remix (Wii U/Wii U/3DS) Despite it being quite expensive in comparison to its bigger (and more content heavy) console brothers, I actually enjoyed Ultimate NES Remix so much more and managed to complete it 100% (as well as the bonus Famicom Remix mode). Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii/Wii U) Couldn't resist as the Wii U eShop version was rather cheap.
Man, this list is depressing (considering the number of mediocre games I double dip on)...
Most of the second copies were bought very cheaply, and when the time comes that I move out, I would like to set up an "arcade" room in my house. If I have enough money, I'd even considering buying an arcade cabinet or two but it seems like such an unnecessary extravagance that I'll probably settle for a couple of TVs in its place.
