I don't buy a game after selling as I rarely sell games, and when I do it's a fair insult (goodbye Sonic 06). I might buy a remaster though. I rebought the first 3 Sly games with the HD collection. That's all I can think of though.
I got Shovel Knight on Wii U and I'm probably going to get the retail version for Xbox One. At least Shovel Knight has tiny Console exclusive bonuses. It's a really fun game worth every penny.
Megaman is another series of games I will always rebuy. Especially the X games. I wish X4 would come to other systems already so I can throw money at it.
I bought Petit Computer once on my 3DS, and once on my DSi. I bought it for my DSi because I wanted to show my games at a talent show, and I didn't want the little kids getting there hands on my 3DS! (It was a good call too, as after I everyone was finished playing, there were inexplicable black smudges all over it!) I also bought it again just to support SmileBOOM.
I bought Okami on Wii and then on PS3. I also bought quite a few of my PS3 games like Bioshock Infinite, Portal 2 and the Mass Effect Trilogy on Steam.

I've bought and sold Mario Sunshine 3 times now, I think (getting ready for a fourth)
I've also owned Super Mario World 4 times, and Zelda 1 4 times
And SMB 7
I would buy Harvest moon:A wonderful life(Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life too) multiple times if they ever came to the wiiU(or NX) virtual console.
I also bought the original pokemon ranger over 4 times because I sold it and bought it again over and over and I dont even know why(I have an urge to go buy it again)
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life was amazing!!! I would totally buy it again. I had no idea it has a sequel!
Maybe this was answered but actually there is a female version, so not a real sequel but a remix of sorts (certain elements of the game were modified).
I own two MGS copies for PSX, one I bought on purpose, the second one I got ordering a completely different game online. But at the time I couldn't send it back(this was in the late 90s). And I own MGS2 & MGS3 two times. I own the original releases on PS2 and the expanded Sub... versions in the PS3 HD Collection because I wanted Peace Walker HD(and try the extra's of the expanded games because I felt cheated out of those extra's for buying the originals on release and missing out).
And I own Bayonetta on PS3 and Wii U because I got the Collector's Edition of Bayonetta 2.
Not counting Steam games, I've personally bought Mother 3 twice, EarthBound Beginnings twice, Wario Land 4 twice, and MGS3 four times.
That's just off the top of my head.
The notable games I own multiple copies of are Sonic The Hedgehog (Xbox 360 Megadrive Collection, Sonic Mega Collection and original cartridge), Sonic 2 (Same as Sonic 1), Sonic Heroes (regrettably, on Gamecube and PS2) and Viewtiful Joe (Gamecube and PS2).

I can't believe I forgot this awesome game but I have also bought multiple copies of Streets of Rage 2 but as as awesome as that game is having multiple copies should be expected. Anyway I have it on the following formats
Sega Genesis Cartridge
Wii VC
3DS

The first time ever for me was buying Don't Starve twice. I already got it on my Laptop, but still went for the Wii U version too.
I love this game a lot, though I admit having hardly played the Wii U version so far; didn't have that much time and Splatoon.
Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.
A lot of Zelda games.. hm. I own the original Wind Waker for the GameCube, and also the HD version for Wii U, although I'm not sure if HD remasters count. Twilight Princess for the GameCube and the Wii. And I also own the Collector's Edition (although I don't own the physical copies of the NES games). I'm still thinking of getting the Master Quest, and probably the one included with the Wind Waker Gold Edition, that's another copy of OoT and WW then.
Do New Play Control! games count? If so, I have both versions of Pikmin and Pikmin 2, the original and the NPC! version.
I also have two copies of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Blue, I gave one copy away, but several years ago, I got it back and I now have two of them again.
That's all I guess. I usually try to avoid double dipping, but sometimes it's hard to resist.
I have Super Mario Bros. 3 on NES, GBA, Wii VirtualConsole, my 3DS, and my son's 2DS. I also have Sonics 1 & 2 on Genesis, the DS collection, the GBA collection, a PS2 collection, and I have the 3D Sonic. I'll buy 3D Sonic 2, as well.
I also used to buy Madden every year; that's kinda like buying the same game multiple times.
